I think there was a thread about this last year, but how many reps (185 lbs.) have the top recruits been able to accomplish? What is a good number of reps for a high school kid to be able to do (such as at a combine or camp)?

it all depends on the position of the player and their weight that determines how many times is good...
um, so yeah i wish i had a good answer for you but i dont but thats usually what it is

if he can rep out 10-15 he should be good unless hes a lineman then u need closer to 20. again it all depends on position, and 40 time if he runs a legit 4.4 he dosnt need to bench the house. now i didnt bench huge numbers in hs. maybee 7-10 reps and i still was afforded the oppurtunity to blay some small college ball. my point is just workin yourself to death to get 15 reps wont make you a better ball player. you need the whole package. there are plenty of highschool players, who get to play, who cant put up 10 reps.

As some have already mentioned, it depends on age, size, and position. So just for a guideline use the following assumption; athlete is going to be a jr or sr and is forecasted to be a starter.
OL/TE/DL: 22 - 30
LB: 18 - 25
RB: 15 - 22
WR/DB/CB: 10-17
QB: 10 - 15
One interesting note to add. Athletes that are the strongest 1 RM lifters are not always the top Rep numbers. There is a degree of aerobic fitness that comes in to play. So if an athlete wants to increase their competitive rep numbers they should also incorporate some aerobic work also.

Are we talking about 185 or 225 on the bench? I think colleges want 225, but not sure about HS.

Those are good estimates for potential D1 recruits in high school, I think they are just a little high (not much) for the average HS kid.
The Army All-American combine was held a couple months back and you can get an idea about what elite kids around the country are running/lifting... they use electronic times and strict lift criteria, so the numbers are much more realistic than the people who casually throw around 4.5 like every team has several kids who are legit 4.5 kids.

Looking through the list I saw SLC Freshman DE Jackson Richards attended. I was a little surprised he only put up 8 reps on the bench @ 185lbs. I know he's just a freshman, but with his size (combine measured 6'3" 230) and SLC's off-season reputation I figured he'd put up a few more. He had an awesome agility-drill time though, already comparable with national senior DE recruits.

At a camp last year, there was a guy that smoked 35 or so. I was pretty impressed. He just kept going and going and going. He was about 6'2, 325lb samoan guy. Seriously strong.

When I was in the 8th grade we had kid do 185 20 times to warmup before he maxed. He maxed 265lbs and he played LB. Played football up until his Sr season and quit but was pretty impresive a powerlifting meets. My Sr season I think I actually reped 185 15 times and I only weghted 175lbs. I dont think this is a good indicator of anything. Lindale White reped 225 15 times and he is a Solid RB. What amazed me was Reggie Bush did 225 22 times.

I was told by a strength coach that 185/225 reps are a good indicator of potential strength. What I was told is that one who can do high reps. with the weights has a better base to build more strength in the future. I know the strength coach at Trinity, and next time I see him; I'll ask him about this.

Good info, thanks. It looks like y'all know a thing or two about strength. BUT, watch out for that Carroll Band!

mojo...my bad...I'm xtra cranky today..please accept my apologies!
If the kid's 5'8 ish and 195 he's one stout dude...there is a SPARQ combine in Keller tomorrow at Blue Sky Complex (9:00) that's free...you can still register on SPARQ's website...one of the activities will be how many reps at 185 can you do...if he's a senior to be (16-18) he should probably be able to do more than 15...any less is probably anomalous, and if he can do more than 25, that would also be very much on the high end. I'll certainly know more tomorrow.
Sorry again for the tude..
