Of the 2 games I have seen this year of Lp, he is a beast. I thought he had it in him last year when they brought him up from Jv. He has been on a tear lately. His stats will not come close to you seeing him play. I think he will break all of holeman records at Lufkin. He should be the top Wr. of the Sr. class next year, if he kept pace on what he is going.
You can start calling him "human highlight" with all those 1 hand catches. The CB's in the last 2 games must feel abused.
I guess it helps to have good wr.'s around you, it only makes you better.
Stats after 2 games
Dez Bryant 7 225 32.1 3
Ralph Thomas 4 60 15 1
Thaddeus Gordon 3 80 26.7 0
EJ Shankle 3 56 18.7 0
Clifton Kibble 1 25 25 0
Marcus Rains 1 12 12 0

I look forward to watching him make some great catches again this week. I also look to see some of the others step up and have a good game too.

Dez is by far a awesome kid, one would have to see him at the last two games and the catches he makes. Size, speed, timing, he could be Lp,s next big time player. At the pace with a year of playing time, next year the college coaches will be tearing this kids door of the hinges.Shankle ,and the rest need to step up and play ball, well Shankle is is getting his also, cause he is so fast, no db,s can catch his once he get a step ....it,s over. When teams began to double Dez, Shankle is going to burn em.

I'm trying to get a clip of his one handed diving catch against PAM - and post it here. Probably the greatest hs catch I've ever seen.

I can't wait to watch this kid in person again.
Again I give props to Pack0808...he called this one
last September. And everybody was like ...who?

Dez is the best WR in Texas, and I would rank Renfro up there with him. Holeman was a great one to but with time Bryant should surpass all of his recieveing records.

Wide your memory never ceases to amaze me!! I was not going to toot my own horn like i did when i called it on mckinner dixon when he was sophomore either. ;) I get a few right here and there what can i say. AJ Penson is the one i have been calling this year and i expect him to be one of the top dl's in the state next year. We will see?? I have also been talking about M Roberts for 2 years but who has not?? He is dominating this year. I am still not going to give up my day job to become a scout just yet. ;) Watch out for J Turner at rb i am very impressed.
I hope kids like Dez do not read our post's because he is going to think he is the greatest ever and a 17 year old kid does not need to hear that. He has a long way to go but i am going to be honest with you. I have not seen those type of skills very often from a wr in hs. He is scary talented. He reminds me of Jermichael Finley but he is faster. He also resembles Malcomb Kelly. Still, it is early and he needs to stay humble and continue working. If they start doubling him Lufkin has plenty of other options at wr to make them pay. Rains is out this week at wr due to a twisted ankle by the way. He will still be the holder on fg's. I just read it in the paper this am from Outlaw so i am not speculating at all. Looks like the Big Murph is going to need another week also. Other then that Lufkin is healthy according to Outlaw.

I was actually referring to the second one-handed grab here. The first one (which I had forgotten) was just as amazing. I stayed up way too late to watch it on the continuous loop cable replay (gotta love Lufkin cable!) last night.
The first one handed grab was a straight leap upward along the sideline - speared the ball with his left hand - kept a foot in bounds and controlled the ball perfectly.
The second one was a leap up and back on the dead run - he again speared the ball with his left hand, brought it in and held on as he hit the deck on his back.
I'm still vowing to get these catches on film here. Individually both are worthy of any highlight reel. Two in one game is just almost unbelievable. These two catches alone are going to send every nationwide scout available to Lufkin to watch Dez.

When you made the second grab...the Lufkin broadcast team went nuts.
I knew at any moment they were gonna bust out with ...."The Giants win the pennant...the Giants win the pennant" Of course they do the same thing on 3 yard carries ...so you never can tell if it was really that impressive with those guys. I bet it was though.

Yeah the main guy is just brutal. That is why i go to all of the games because i cannot hack how goofy they are. I know he means well and he is just excited but lord?? I guess it is better then a boring announcer. You have to listen to the Crockett game preshow. Those guys are hilarious. I could care less about Crocket but i always try to turn them on before the Lufkin home games on the way to the stadium because they just crack me up. :) Hey wide those catches were amazing no lie. I do not know how he got the one that looked like it was going to go 10 ft above his head?? A receiver like that can make your stats look very good. Just throw it up!!

If you got the time, you can watch the whole game at:
pack games (http://www.cityoflufkin.com/panthers.htm)
I watched those catches 3 times, plus was there. I still amazed of how he stayed in bound with 2 feet , not 1 . I give him his props, cause that young man will be playing on Sundays if he keep his head right.

Jaws - not sure - but the first catch is in the first qtr. and the second one is, I think, in the second quarter, maybe third. His 62 yard td catch is in the second quarter for sure.

The kid is only 17 years old and if he starts to believe the hype and does not work hard he will be another story of wasted talent that you have heard happening thousands of times all over the United States. Not saying he is like that because i have only talked to him once and i have no clue. He is just one of many talented players across the land and only a select few make a career at it. Long Long way to go but the kid is scary talented i am not going to lie.

Question for the Pack....
How does Shankle look so far? Is he getting some touches? From what I've seen of him in person and on film, he's real talent in the open field. After Bryant's performance in the post-season last year, I think about all of us following LP expected a very good junior season. It looks like he is delivering on that.

Shankle has a big run and a few big catches. He has only rushed 1 time and it was for a 51 yard td. He has caught several passes and his biggest has been a 30 plus yarder. They are going to him a lot on swing passes and slants. They will utilize him even more as the season goes along. He has a tendency to get injured easily and has already been banged up this year. He is the fastest player On LP's roster and one of the fastest in the state as everybody knows. Very explosive and he is capable of taking it to the house if you give him any type of seam.

Shankle has looked very dangerous - but he does need more touches. PAM did a good job of ball control - particularly in the first half - and Dez was on fire - so, obviously not alot of balls to go around with those issues. I think he only had two catches for around 25 yards against PAM. Against Ike -- he had the 51 yard td run Pack mentioned - and a 50 yard catch down to the 2, plus a couple of other 15 yard catches.
As we talked about in the summer KT - I just don't think EJ is going to get the number of touches you would ideally like to see - mainly because Coach Outlaw still wants the team to run between the tackles efficiently - and he remains sold on the basic hb option play. I'll take Kibble between tackles - he's done well there - but he's not fast enough to run the option. As the season progresses, I see EJ getting the ball more.

J Turner is going to be playing more favpack. The only guy that is faster then Jacorrey is Shankle and it is not by much. Outlaw said he is going to play more because he brings a whole other dimension to the offense just shankle would if he got the ball more. I think Turner has better vision at rb then Shankle and i think that he has better power and Shankle has slightly better speed. Because of this i think Shankle will used mostly as a wr with a few reverses and option plays in between. I do not know if J Turner will play tonight because of a very minor altercation but we will see??
