That is a number of schools way back when Texas moved from a B - 4A system to an A - 5A system. Almost all schools that were 4A at the time moved up to 5A simultaneously.

check the records as of 1980 when 5a started, and you'll have a tie for first with a hundred or so schools.

I think what he is asking is what 5A school, in itself, is the oldest school in Texas?
For example, Brenham High School is the oldest public High School in Texas, period. But it's 4A!!
You'd be looking for the equivalent, just on a 5A level!
I'm thinking but, I would think Waco High and Tyler High are candidates. Odessa High as well.....! Mmmm, give me a little more time to think about it!
(I know the first Texas High School Football team was established at Dallas High School in 1900.)
I'm thinking....

Garland High School's football team had it's first season in 1906, but it was only 2 games and was intermittent at best for many years. I'm not sure if it was always considered big school (pretty sure it wasn't in the beginning), but we've been around a pretty long while.

waco is a combo school and therefore only a decade old or so. plano is 100+, but i don't know about the football team. it would have to be someone in the eastern half of the state, because it was settled earlier. maybe lview. and since all schools are some sort of combo since segregation was required until 60's, there's no telling.

Waco played in 6 straight high school title games in 1921-1927. Currently, they are on the 5A level. But back then there was no levels.
Now, is the question: what 5A high school, in itself, is the oldest? If so I would think Waco or Tyler.
But if the question is what 5A high school was founded from the time of 1980, the first year 5A levels were established, I have no idea! That would only be 25 years ago.

Yale graduate James Richardson, the father of Texas high school football, formed a team at Galveston's Ball High School and coached the squad in the first schoolboy game ever played in the Lone Star State. It was played on December 24, 1892 against a local team called the Galveston Rugbys.
Ball High School has not always been, but is now a 5A school.

I guess this is one post that SLC or Katy can't top. Katy has a 1959 Title but compared to schools that were holding classes in the late 19th century.
That blows me away.

The original "Katy School" originated in 1898. This was the beginning of what would become Katy High School.

he's probably referring to the man-child who's trying to resurrect his qb career at wtamu- hunter wall. i really don't think he was older than the rules allow, it's just that he'd been shaving since the 3rd grade and just seemed full growed.
