OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR GREG DAVIS
On if Colt McCoy has gotten bigger: He is at about 210 pounds right now, and he will continue to get bigger and stronger. He has really worked hard in the weight room.

Coach McCoy said Colt wanted to get up to about 220 and I think that may happen.

Speaking of The McCoys, there is one named Chance, a reciever, that graduates in May from Graham, but, there is also a younger one named Case that plays QB for the Steers. Case started almost every game this season, and he led Graham 3 rounds deep into the playoffs as a freshman. Look out for him in about 3 years.

All the McCoy boys are pretty good. I believe chance signed a LOI with ACU so he will follow in his Dad's footsteps. I think Chance played QB for a while, but ended up moving to WR. I never got to see Case in person.

My brother's girlfriend is from Graham, and she made it sound like some people are fed up with the McCoys because the coach was starting his own sons over players who ought to be starting...I don't know anything more than that...except my bro's g/f also said her mom hates colt because of that lol.

Well that's definitely not a new phenomenon. Anytime you have a coach with sons on the team that is gonna happen. Been that way since the beginning of time.

It's also gonna happen that folks with some sour grapes just accuse the coach of doing so. I think it's pretty clear that Colt should have been the starter back in his Jim Ned H.S. days....that is, unless there was some other Tuscola kid that could have played the way Colt did for the Longhorns this past season.
I also think its pretty safe to say that the McCoys are likely to have pretty good genes and good football knowledge and that they just might be the best at their positions in Graham. But it has to be tough when a new coach comes into town and his son displaces the kid who was "the man" in JV or whatever. Doesn't mean that his son isn't indeed the better player.

The people in Graham got their panties in a wad because coach McCoy started Case... a freshman and I believe Graham was returning a QB from the previous year. They simmered down after a couple of playoff wins and they'll shut up all together if Case brings home a championship.

Chance was Colt's backup at Jim Ned when Colt was a senior. But, at that same time, Chance was an all-stater as a sophomore.

Hey, my girlfriend was born and raised in Graham. There are some people there with sour grapes, but, truth is, the quarterback that was there before Case even got there graduated when Case finished the 8th grade. So, truth is, that the Steers went into the 2006-2007 school year without a starting quarterback, which led to a quarterback competition to start the season.

The previous quarterback before this season was Jeremy Louder. He graduated with the class of 2006, and had been the starter for the Steers since before David Bourquin left and went to Mineral Wells. That was during the Steers wing-T, and veer days.

I've been a follower of small school football for years and it is rare when you get even one D-1 recruit from a little school, or even a D-2 recruit, much less multiples in a season or over a few years. One thing there is plenty of is whining mothers and fathers who all think their kid is better than somebody elses, but certainly better than the coaches kid.
Typical small town chatter......the coach can win state and still not have done it the right way.......I'm serious.
Another observation, talent tends to run in towns over time. Some have it....some don't. I may step on some feet, and I don't mean to, but I can't remember the great Graham football talents who have come out over the years and I can't name a great team to come out of Graham.
Doesn't bode well for the "deep talent in this town" theory.

Graham has had "SOME", talent, but, they haven't had talent like Gilmer, Cuero, West Orange-Stark, etc. They've also had some good teams, but, it won't do you any justice when you run into Abilene Wylie in the first round ALMOST, every year.

For some reason, I thought Louder was coming back.

Nope, Louder was class of 2006. Louder also played a little running back when Coach McCoy was in his first year at Graham.

I will admit that outside of Wylie, I don't really follow 3A football, but it seems like Graham usually has a good team. They just always run into Wylie in the playoffs. There was a stretch there for a while where Wylie had some great teams, but they could never get past Aledo or Everman in the playoffs. Wylie finally got a bit of a break when Aledo moved up to 4A. Maybe Graham will get a break and Wylie will finally move up to 4A.
