In all honesty, I haven't watched much basketball this year, but what I have caught leads me to believe this year's Dallas Mavericks are the best team since Jordan and the Bulls went something like 70-12. I'm not saying Dallas can equal that record, but I haven't seen a team play as well as Dallas has since Jordan was in the league.

would have been interesting if the tables were turned and the mavs were minus Dirk...

Not making excuses, because a win is a win. Just food for thought, with Yao being out right now.

Dallas without Dirk is still better than Houston without Yao

They've done better than expected without him....Earlier in the year when Yao was dominating, McGrady was hurt. If we could only get both of them healty. I was reading the paper and I think it said since both have been in Houston they have only played 50-60 games together...not even a full season and when both are healty the Rockets are pretty good. Houston and Denver are two teams that can cause problems in the playoffs if they are healthy.

I expect the team to do much better when Yao returns to the roster. Yeah, their winning right now...but they missing something... The REALLY big man.

Mutumbo has been great, but Yao scores...mutumbo doesn't.

i agree...Houston can cause problems come playoff time...Yao and T-man HAVE to stay healthy

'Ya know I used to think Mutumbo sounded like Cookie Monster.
But after hearing him last night on Best Damn...I've come to the realization that Mutumbo IS Cookie Monster.
Next time you hear him talk...close your eyes. I dare you to do that and not laugh.

Sportscenter was mocking Mutombo a few days ago and if you were listening, they were calling him Cookie Monster.

Dallas will end the year with one of the 10 best regular season's ever. They have a good shot to be in the Top 5. At 44-9, they're going to have to play well to run the table and beat the Bulls 72-10. Tying it would also be a good feat. The odds are that Dallas will tie or beat the teams sitting at 69-13 who currently hold down 2nd Place. I would be surprised if Dallas loses more than 4 games the rest of the way.

OK,

This is how good Dallas has been so far this year. The NBA has been around over 60 years and now has 30 teams so you can figure there has been many seasons played by NBA teams during that time. The Mavs had the 8th best record all-time after 50 games this year and including ties at 41-9, they were one of the 17 best teams of all-time to that point in the year. This is all coming on the heels of an 0-4 start. The stats look better now because Dallas has gotten better instead of falling off like the other all-time win teams.

Assuming Dallas goes ahead and beats Miami in Dallas (Yes, they want more revenge) after the All-Star break, you're looking at a 45-9 team who would be 45-5 in their last 50 games. This is all teams all time:

After 54 games:

95-96 Bulls 48-6 and won title.
96-97 Bulls 48-6 and won title.

66-67 76ers 47-7 and won title.
71-72 Lakers 47-7 and won title.
82-83 76ers 47-7 and won title.

64-65 Celtics 45-9 and won title.
87-88 Lakers 45-9 and won title.
05-06 Pistons 45-9 and lost Eastern Conference Finals.
06-07 Mavericks 45-9.

These are the best 50 games stretches in NBA history:

66-67 76ers 46-4 and won title.

71-72 Lakers 45-5 and won title. The 33 wins in a row team.
95-96 Bulls 45-5 and won title on their way to 72-10.
06-07 Mavericks 45-5.

That's right. Dallas is tied for the 6th best 54 game start ever and is tied for the 2nd best 50 game stretch at any point in a season. The Mavs will have sole possession of the best 50 game stretch ever if they can get past the next 17 games without more than 1 loss.

Nothing will please me more than to watch some team--preferably my Spurs--tear the Mavericks from their premature throne in this year's playoffs. I would have the best summer of my life.

1. You should be happy because it would be a great feat.

2. Good luck on seeing somebody beat them. They've only lost 2 games in the last 2 months and you don't usually start losing very many games in the regular season or playoffs when you go on runs like Dallas has been doing.

3. It will give me great pleasure to say a big FU to a bunch of you guys when Dallas does win the title.

4. All I said was that they've been playing like the All-Time great teams have done in the past. Would you rather me start talking about them being great after the fact or say it before they finish what they're going to do? I'm not trying to pick on you and just decided to respond to your post. This is for the rest of the losers on here, too.

concerning point #3, does that mean Freaking Umpires? They are referees or officials in the NBA, sir.
