So now we're three games in and we have seen what both of these guys can do. Do we have any opinions out there?
IMHO, I'm a Dodge fan all the way. McElroy doesn't have the field presence or the RUNNING ability. I cringe when I see him in the game. It was stated on one of the other posts that the running game is an ingrediant we're missing this year. That's because McElroy keeps playing! We need Dodge in there!!!

Someone give me stats on these to QB's and 40 times. But right now SLC is 3-0 so they are still doing something right. Anyhow make sure the worst players play if you meet Lufkin again this year Ill be really pissed if I see you beat my Pack again(LOL)

No doubt Dodge is the better runner. However, I think McElroy is much better at running the passing offense. Dodge seems to give up on the pass to soon and start running. McElroy will take more sacks but he will complete more passes. I vote McElroy.

dodge sounds similar to chase daniel then. I think the more defenses SLC faces that blitz or put pressure on the QB the more games you will see like the one last week - and lucky thing that Plano E's offense stinks or they could have put some points on the board too.

i'm a huge fan of both. riley really showed himself to be very sophmoric this week, and not in a negative connotation. he found out that speed works both ways. he is what he is. the second best qb on a pretty good, and hopefully improving team. better get all these points in before decmber 17th, as there won't be a second qb controversy after that.

Daddy makes a good point - I think Dodge will end up being the better QB for this offense - not to say mcelroy wont go on and be more successful in college just due to his physical tools (height being the primary) but Dodge is more suited to this offense and with a little learning and development will do good things in his time. I still say that Riley gets to play like he does now for that very reason - his dad wants to get him some exposure now so the learning curve is greatly reduced for next year.

I haven't seen either play a full game, but I will say there is no substitute for experience in a program and McElroy has that on Dodge right now. Of course, being a coach's son will help Riley along quicker than the average player to say the least. The best thing is that each brings something different to the table to throw at a defense. SLC will need to tap into the talents of both players to get where they want to be in December.

I hate to sit on the fence about anything, but right now I say they are about even. They both have their good and their bad traits. Obviously most fans are going to want Dodge in there because he is a more exciting player.

i doubt if we polled most fans they'd go with dodge. he would start for most teams in texas this year, but shouldn't for slc.

Im going with Dodge, he can run...In this day and age, you gotta be able to pass and run, you cant just be a sitting duck in the pocket..

You hit it Ddaddy...Riley is getting his game reps this year as planned by dad (Coach Dodge) and will be very ready next season. McElroy is doing pretty much what is needed...run the offense and hang points. 135 points in 3 games is right on target.

just curious....how good did Riley run on this past Friday night??? In his two meaningful series I think he went 3 and out both times...
The only way Coach Dodge can win a state title this year is with McElroy and my guess is he knows that....
I would like to compare Chase Daniels or Wasson's first 3 game numbers to McElroy's........McElroy is completing over 60% of his pass's, has 10 td's to only 2 picks and is averaging over 280 yards a game....

Mc has turned out to be the QB all of the scouts thought he would be..very efficient, accurate, with a strong arm and has surprised people already with his running ability. And he's only going to get better with more game experience. Riley is the change-up with his athleticism and "coaches son smarts", not to mention a big league gun....

Riley is going to smoke everyone in 2006 and 2007.....and so is the Newton kid.....I just hope he has a good supporting cast. Aren't all of the o-line seniors this year??

Anything less than 5,000 total yards is sub-standard for an SLC QB these days, so McElroy/Dodge are in an automatic 80 degree climb up an icy surface to begin with. :D

However, against PESH most of his deep throws were perfect. He tossed a 40+ yarder in on Renfrow in the end zone with the DB breathing in Renfrow's ear. Perfection. Touchdown. Perhaps it was his injury that hampered the first two games.

All the O-line are seniors and even the backups are seniors, but there are some very good ones on JV where the quarterback has like 10 seconds to throw in the two JV games that I saw. One O-lineman in particular that also plays on the varsity scout team looks to be wearing out the starting defensive ends. He is going to be a real good one and I think that he plays left tackle

Do you guys even want me to answer this question.
I think we know the answer.
McElroy is the answer. Just give him some time, regardless, he is one of the best QB's in the state. If teams were to prepare for Riley, I think everyone would have a different opinion. That is not to detract anything from Riley (he will be a great QB), but teams are mainly preparing for McElroy and that is allowing Riley to come in and have good runs.
Plus I think everyone knows that SLC has some pretty good WR, and McElroy straight up has a stronger arm. That is how this team is going to win this year.

I would go with both like they have been doing. But I would not take Newton out of the game. That's just my opinion. He is the most explosive and I think we will need him in the running game since McElroy really is not a running threat. I know people will talk about how Moorefield is a better blocker but I just don't think we can afford to not be able to run the ball. IMHO, I don't think he's much better of a blocker than Newton if better at all.

McElroy's stats after 3 games are very impressive. Yards, touchdowns, completion % . . . you name it. He is the best in the metroplex so far this year and no doubt near the top of any state ranking as well (statistically speaking).

That's my little bro. It's scary as the older brother when as a sophmore your little brother is already and inch taller and weighs as much as you did your senior year. Getting reps against players like Boydston is only going to help him when its his turn.

McElroy is the one who has started every game so far. He is also the leading passer in the Metroplex through 3 games and he has not played the whole game in any of the 3.
Riley's day will come and his contrubutions to this years team has yet to be determined. Riley has a bit of an attitude and has shown an inablity to keep his helment on when he gets hit. He has shown a good touch with his pass and seems to see the field a little better than McElroy.
McElroy has gotten better with every outing and has shown an ablitiy to hit the open reciever. He is also getting used to thowing to the recivers with defenders on them and at full game speed. This whole thread will be pointless as the district games start to unfold. McElroy will start and provide the leadership to allow Riley to come in and do mop up work. The next two years will be Riley's. Remember, Chase Daniel was a WR his sophmore year and then became the states 5A player of the year for the last two years of his career.

I don't think your brother is the one that I am talking about because I know this kid's older brother and the kid is atleast three inches taller than him
