Notre Dame is loaded with offensive talent all across the board. Still doesn't change the fact that in 2 year years, Pudding Boy has yet to land any significant defensive talent.

I beg to differ. ND manhandled LSU on both sides<---- delusional statement

My prediction - ND will take a major step back and Charlie boy will be the HC at, oh, let's see -- the Cleveland Browns in '08.

That will all change with the new DC brown. He is known for getting defensive talent to Virginia the past several years. Once Wesi's first year recruits hit their senior year ND will be stacked. Remember the recruits this year were all tyrone willingham. I am worried about the defensive talent they have got thus far but they have got a lot of DB talent this year and last year.

LSU had way more talent than ND. Any nd fan knew this going into the sugar bowl. I cant wait for ND football these next 4 years. This is the best talent they have got in a long time. Keep laughing at ND...Its only a matter of time before the Irish rise again!

Corwin Brown was marginally effective at UVa and hasn't been there in a few years (he's spent the past few seasons coaching DBs for the Jets). The recruits that came to UVa during that time did so because Al Groh was new and the appeal of an NFL coach drew some good talent there. Once that appeal wore off and it became obvious that Groh and most of his staff sucked, the recruiting dropped to where it is now. Even back when Brown was there though, they didn't do anything with defensive talent. This is evident by the fact that UVa has not had a defensive player drafted in the first two rounds since 1997... well before Brown and Groh showed up (Brown was the special teams coach at UVa from '01-'03) and outside of Howie Long's son (a DE), there isn't much prospect for the future.

There is perhaps no greater UVa fan on this board than me and I will be the first to say that I would not want a coach that has "learned" under Al Groh except maybe Ron Prince, but I would want him as a coordinator. Al Groh is an incompetent who has managed to spread his incompetence around like herpes through the San Fernando Valley. This is also Brown's first time ever as a DC. I'm not saying that he can't do it and I'm not trying to say that he is a moron, but he has some strikes against him in my book. Weis could have and should have made a much bigger splash when hiring a DC, but he chose to go with somebody who will not take the spotlight away from him and his offense.

Honestly..the story was that weis wanted mora. Brown did get some current NFL players while at UVA. I was aware he came from the jets and Bellicheck Crennel and al groh all reccomended Brown for the job. If recruits know that he has some influence on current NFL coaches of their stature, it will help persuade a recruit wanting to make it at the next level.

Well considering they were no where to be found on the recruting scene before weis was there. Last year they were ranked higher in recruiting then they have been in the past 8 years. Last year they were ranked 8th in recruiting and now this year they are ranked 5th. You are watching espn too much and not looking at the facts. ND is getting stronger every year. Next year wont be real pretty but give them the next 4 years and ND will have another championship.

OH BY THE WAY....IMO

The only players Brown would have any help in recruiting that are now in the NFL is Ahmad Brooks and Darryl Blackstock. Blackstock is a marginal back up and Ahmad Brooks is widely regarded as a failure in college who was kicked off the team his junior year and then couldn't get his fat butt drafted. Cincy picked him up in the supplemental where they've actually done something with him. That's it. I think Chris Canty came in the year before Groh and his staff showed up.

I looked at the facts when everyone was touting ND as a NC contender this year just like they have in the past to end up seeing how it was all just hype.....again. I'll believe that ND is a good team again when they actually beat someone good.

"I knew Corwin wanted to be a coach six months after I met him his rookie year in 1993. I know he will be successful."
-Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells

"Corwin Brown has proven himself as a key component in our defensive system over the last decade, first as a player and now as a bright young coach. I respect Corwin for his team oriented attitude and his ability to relate so well to everyone he interacts with. Corwin will be an outstanding addition to Charlie's staff and the Notre Dame football program."
-New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick

"I coached Corwin in the 1993 Senior Bowl, with the Patriots and Jets, and he was on my staff at Virginia for three years. His core has always been the same - passionate about football, hard working and dependable, tough minded, a great teammate and committed to winning. He's a member of the Tribe and will bring all those qualities to Notre Dame"
-University of Virginia head football coach Al Groh

"Corwin Brown was a fundamentally sound football player and is a fundamentally sound football coach. He brings energy, enthusiasm and expertise to his position and will be able to relate to his players. He will work hard and provide a plan for continued success at Notre Dame."
-Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel

"This is a well-earned opportunity for Corwin. Since his days as a player, you sensed Corwin would excel as a coach. We appreciate Corwin's contributions to the New York Jets and wish him the best in his new position."
-New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini

Thats some pretty good quotes.

Im just saying that these are the best players they have got in FOREVER. You only hear what ESPN tells you. They finally are getting top talent again.

BTW...Thanks for everyone talking about Irish football with me. I enjoy others opinions.

i see...he was a great player in college and regarded as a top LB in the draft until he ran a terrible 40. I think thats why his stock dropped so much. I was just looking at UVA's committment list in 02 and they got tons of 4*/5* defensive talent.

That was Groh's first recruiting class at UVa and if you follow NFL coaches who take college jobs, they almost always pull in huge classes their first year or two. Weis is a good example as are Pete Carroll and Al Groh. Groh pulled in a crap load of defensive talent (I think something like 16 4 and 5 star defensive recruits in his first two years) because he was bringing in his NFL style 3-4 defense. That's how he lured Parham who was a 5 star and rated the #1 DE in the country (an OLB in Groh's 3-4 scheme). He also took some chances on some very talented character risks that ended up biting him in the butt (Ahmad Brooks). Still amazing to look at those recruits and think that not one of them went in the first 2 rounds of the draft. FIRE GROH!!

Groh walked into the perfect situation and managed to fall flat on his face. He was a tremendous hire who was paid a lot of money. He pulled in a lot of huge recruits and then watched them all regress. Groh is to UVa what Franochio is to aggy.

The thing that is so frustrating is that UVa could easily be not only an ACC, but a serious BCS title contender if they wanted to be. Beamer is losing his control over the Newport News area of Virgina and DC is becoming a hotbed of talent. It's all right there in UVa's backyard, but nobody wants to play for Groh because he's an idiot. He's not really an idiot, but he does belong at the pro level.

BTW, his class this year looks good, #18 in the nation according to Rivals, but Rivals places an emphasis on quantity over quality. UVa has 25 commits right now which is what ranks them so high. If you look at the quality of that class though, it's average star ranking of 3.04 is the worst of any school in the top 20. Peter Lalich and Ras-I Dowling are players though. Lalich might be the best QB Groh has brought in.

Why do you think he belongs at the pro level and not the college level. The fact that he is not a good recruiter??
