well, the '06 texas high school football season is over and all those teams and fans that didnt exactly get where they wanted to be are ready for 7 on 7 football again!!the place where bad teams have a chance to ignite some kind of flame for the upcoming season, and the good teams to solidify their spots to their fans. up and coming players get a great chance to make a name for themselves and get on the radar.obviously any teams that return a good number of offensive specialty positions will have a good chance and be the leaders going into the summer. so who all in your opinions look good for this summer??

oh yes, i was wondering where yall were playing 7 on 7 at last year. i heard yall had a team but never saw you in the big tournaments. yes they have qualifying tournamenats every weekend between the middle of may thru the middle of july. plus they have a season league also. if you win your league or are runner up. you advance to state tournament also. but , yes they have the stq's many times drin the 7 on 7 season. longviews coaches will decide on which they play in i guess or what league they will join if they are playin with the big boys this year.

we should be good again this year. we were good last year in 7 on 7 but were knocked out in the first round by a team who knocked out southlake caroll also in the second round. we will be very fast on offense we have alot of speed at the skill positions.

last year was the first time we participated in 7/7 since 98'. We played in a league with Tatum, Hallsville, Spring Hill, and White Oak. All games were in Tatum. I hope we play in a bigger one this year but wouldn't mind if we do the same as last cause I helped coach last summer and would like to again this year.

Colleyville will be extremely weak at skill postions next year so yes, there is NO WAY they even come close to winning state.

I'm ready for 7 on 7! Anything is better than completely free Saturdays. I'm not creative enough to think up something to do and if I don't figure out something fast, the better half will think up something. :)
I'm sure eventually this thread will evolve into the same old conversations about the value of 7 on 7, but 5 out of 8 of this years Regional Champions were involved enough in 7 on 7 last summer to qualify for the state tournament at College Station.
Anyway, if nothing else, they're fun to watch. Yes, it's nothing more than touch football, but it's some really really good young athletes playing touch football. I'm surprised more scouts don't use this as one more recruiting tool.
I enjoy it.

Actually, I read somewhere that 7-on-7 helped a kid get a scholarship. I realize it is obviously not the be-all end-all as far as going to the next level, but it is a venue to showcase speed and agility. That has to count for something.

Some on the board have said that 7 on 7 is basically a waste of time. I am not one of those, and I believe it's an important tool in the modern football world.

That has to count for something. It really helped a kid for SJ last year. Well, sort of. SJ was playing CyFair and McGuffie was awesome, unstoppable. This kid I'm referring to, who had pretty much gone unnoticed before this day, was told to go cover McGuffie. He actually stayed with him better than anyone had and made a few plays. The SJ coaches in attendance were like "Where did that come from?" and decided to give him a real look for starting in the fall. Unfortunately, he was a top club soccer player and time constraints made him choose sports... He went with soccer. Anyway, the point is just what you said. It's just another way to show what you can do on the field.

conroe should be better than average this 7 on 7 season. i only coached the conroe team the two years they went to state, 04 and 05. i was way to bored last summer so im going to try and find a team to coach again this upcoming 07 summer.

the young qb, j. smith, is VERY athletic..last yr was his 1st to play qb.....greenwood will be one of the best in the state, he will only be a jr this upcoming season...oline will be young and a question mark except for one returning starter, c a. woodum....coaching, holtkamp has been rumored to be getting the conroe isd ad job, but its uncertain....i coached 7 on 7 before...hoping to do it again, it was a very fun experience.

A question to why Texas runs it 7 on 7 like it does? In La,Alabama,Mississippi and several places that we have taken the Evangel Eagles to in the past five years, we have the opportunity to be able to coach our boys coverages, routes, everything that you can do in a 7 on 7 tourney. I have never been able to go to a 7 on 7 tourney in Texas but the biggest one we go to is Hoover's 7 on 7 tourney which is several teams around the country that are national powers that compete there and it is a great tourney. It helps out greatly when you start putting on the pads and kids already know how to play zone or man, how to play man on one side and zone on the other to give examples. I admire Texas football but I have always wondered why they do not let coaching staffs coach their kids?

well, if the coaching staff is smart theyll get somebody that used to coach or could have coached and let them teach them the zones, coverages, routes, etc. and uil doesnt let the coaching staff coach the kids during the summer because they want the kids to have some sort of "break". but we all know that every hs in the state has involuntary "voluntary" workouts during the entire summer anyways....
