You cant be saying things like that, I want Lee to win for the sake of Texas, but this colerain team has already lost a game to another ohio team this year. I dont think many of the people on this board respected the quality of football that Ohio plays nor the level of Colerain. That said, this game is still early and Lee has plenty of time to make a comeback, which I think they will.

I know Ohio football is strong, but they aren't as strong as Texas. And, no matter what the outcome, I don't believe Texas has it's strongest team representing us tonight, no matter how much I like Lee or want them to win.

It might not be our strongest team representing us, but the same could be said for Ohio. Colerain dropped a game in week 1 to another Ohio team, so it could be argued that this is not Ohio's strongest team either. The one thing im afraid of is some how Lee does not win this game, then plenty of excuses will be lashed out, much like in 2000 when Midland Lee got beat by West Monroe.

Longview crushed West Monroe so you won't hear them talking, however, Tyler Lee went to Ohio, I am sure Ohio has some rules Tyler hasn't ever played under, it will take them one minute to adjust, but they will get it done, next season I wish Colerain would come to Tyler Lee and let them play under Texas rules...I can't want to see the penalty chart I am sure Tyler Lee is having trouble with the rules they are playing under.

I've got the Colerain-Tyler Lee game on TV. It's on ESPNU. It's a channel you can only get with DirectTV.

HALF: Cincinnati Colerain 24 Tyler Lee 12

Tyler Lee is getting dominated at the point of attack defensively, and are having real trouble stopping the option. Colerain is on pace for over 500 yards rushing. Lee has been able to hit a couple of big plays to stay in the game, but the defense looks really bad.

Lee is staying blocked and when they happen to escape blocks they aren't wrapping up well at all. They have a lot of adjustments to make at halftime to avoid being run out of the stadium.

Colerain has quick guys in the backfield. The QB Gary Pride hasn't made any big mistakes so far, and that's always a big boost to an option offense. Normally, mistakes on the pitch or TBs not having control of the ball lead to rough days for a team that is strictly option bound.

Anyway, Colerain's offense is definitely giving Lee problems and I think the fact that hardly anyone in 5A runs a system like Colerain has a lot to do with that. It's tough to prepare for something you don't see, but that goes both ways. Colerain's never seen Lee before either.

I just heard Smoak say that this Colerain team would have no trouble playing with the Lufkins, Longviews, etc...

That's because Smoaky tends to leave his REL filter on when talking about Lufkin and L'View.

He hasn't seen either team this year yet. So how can he make that assumption? Everyone knows Lee is a slow starting team and Mike Owens likes his teams to peak around Week 11.

Just because Lee was not adequately prepared for this game doesn't mean another Texas team wouldn't be either.

I was able to see this game live on ESPNU and Lee's defense played much better in the second half for the most part. However, the offense dropped the ball on opportunities they received in the third quarter. Tyler Lee ran a few too many cutesy type plays for my liking (ran the middle screen about five or six times it seemed) instead of just attacking downfield like they did in the first half. Colerain's OL wiped the floor with Lee in the first half but REL saved a little face in the second half by not getting completely blown off the field. At half, it seemed like that could happen.

Anyway, I'm sure REL will gain a lot from this game and move on to the next opponent.

All I'm saying is this...

I've listened to David Smoak on several occasions while visiting Tyler. Listening to him talk about REL vs. other E. Texas schools (I'm mainly talking about Longview and Lufkin here), you would think REL was ordained by Jesus Christ himself. Even when REL gets beat by one of these two schools Old Smoaky searches for excuses.

Don't get me wrong. I like REL and Mike Owens. I think Coach Owens runs a class program. He's my favorite high school coach today next to Coach Outlaw. I was rooting for REL through out the playoffs last year. Whenever, I have run across REL fans and players and they have nothing but nice things to say about both L'View and Lufkin and vice versa.

But for David Smoak to make blanket statements about how other schools would fair against Colerain, OH when he hasn't seen either school's team in action this year is just ludicrous. Just because his team lost doesn't mean every East Texas team would have lost too.

The star was born against OSU and Kansas, legends do not get the hype that Vince has received so far, and that all goes to his performance against Michigan. Colerain was better. Clearly. They were never in danger of losing tonight. Now, could hey have beaten any and all Texas teams? Maybe. Maybe not. But then again, so far this season they are at best the #2 or #3 team just in Cincinnati and probably not top 5 in the state.

Lee was a solis team. But they were outmanned. I like Cuba and Williams alot. They'll go far. But the Colerain o-line was too strong. Pride clicked tonight at QB. Tyler Moeller and Eugene Clifford were exceptional on defense.

I hope this opens the eyes of some people. There are some damned good teams in places like Ohio.

Hey all the folks who hyped up Tyler Lee off of what they did last year should just except the fact that they were not the best team tonight and move on.

I was impressed with the toughness and the effort of Colerain. Tyler Lee looked sluggish (as expected: travel time) but the defense of the Cardinals was aggressive and was fundamentally sound.

Having lived in Pittsburgh for a number of years I knew the kids from that area and eastern Ohio were tough as nails. It looks like western Ohio kids are just as tough!!

Great game Colerain and thanks to Tyler Lee for giving us the game.

Now im my opinion the hesiman is Leinart's to lose, his numbers last year were incredible, if he leads USC to another undefeated regular season and puts up numbers like he did last year then he should win it. The only thing going against Leinart is that he has some teammates that will take votes away from him, now the question is, will it be enough to get someone outside of LA the heisman trophy?

seems as if my team is the only one that won. GG Colerain, good call Colerain-Cards and Concha.

Now lets just hope all us Texans weren't wrong about the OSU-UT game...if they do, wide-e-wide, I'll make a forum that we can migrate to. It won't be as good, but hey, its football talk, thats all we need.

I was actually surprised just how much Colerain dominated, truth be told. They were never really in danger. The defense was just too much (apart from the two mistakes on pass coverage).

It will be interesting to see how TexasFrog makes it so that this game never really happened or that is was somehow a great Texas victory.

Tyler Lee is not even a top ten team in Texas this year. They are a solid team but will go out early in the playoffs.

Maybe. But they are undefeated in Texas so far....

You are a prime example of the main flaw of internet message boards. The majority of people who frequent these boards actually try to act with some type of decency when they post. If it weren't for the people like yourself who feel the need to fill these boards with trash, these boards would be a great place to discuss football. You must be a very insecure person that just has to put down others in order to boost your own self esteem.

Despite your conspicuous absence, I thought I'd ask you, the resident grand poobah of all that is football: "What in Hades happened????"

Let's see. Colerain was supposed to lose 34 or 35 to 17. But Lordy! They won by 15 (and let's face it, it wasn't that close). That means you were off by 4 or 5 touchdowns. Now, I know nothing about football compared to you, but 4 or 5 touchdowns is a lot, right? How could you, who knows the top passing school in Ohio without even looking it up, be so pitifully wrong?

Help me here. I'm so disillusioned.

It was not closer. REL scored on a couple of mistakes in the Colerain secondary. They were simply outmanned tonight. Colerain's defense was dominant, though REL's was much stronger in the 2nd half than the first. Colerain went up 14-0 early and was never in any danger of losing.

For weeks all I read on here is that Colerain wouldn't be able to handle REL's offense, that an Ohio team wouldn't be able to handle a Texas team's spread offense because we don't see things like that in Ohio. I was at the game and before kickoff I was a little worried that REL was going to leave Crew Stadium with the win. That worry was pretty much gone after the first minute of the game. Colerain pretty much dominated REL in just about every facet of the game. I probably would have come on here and said that it was a good game, and like I have said on here in the past that Texas High School football is among the best, if not the best in the nation; but now all I am reading is that we should have sent Lufkin, Longview, or SLC. I have the upmost respect for football in the state of Texas. Year in and year out the state has amongst the best blue chip athletes every year, and a top ranked team within the USA Today's national rankings. Would Colerain have beaten Lufkin, Longview, or SLC? We'll never know, but I will tell all of you this, last night the Ohio team was better than the Texas team.

It was a rough game. Tyler Lee came out flat in the 1st quarter and it hurt them the rest of the game.

Remember the game was played in Ohio. I know that Ohio fans will act like that doesnt mean anything but it does. Whenever you take alot of (15,16,17) year old kids on a big road trip like that its going to have some type of mental affect on the team.

They played at a venue where they only had about 200 fans (according to the paper).

So, when your tallying up everything take those (overlooked factors) into account because they do mean something in High school football. The so called "comfort zone."

Like I've told another Ohio dude. No doubt that Colerain is going to be a Top #5 Ohio team and more likely then not make a deep run into the Ohio playoffs.

Tyler Lee is probably (#13-#17) in Texas this season. We'll see how the seaosn plays out for them.

So, for the #13-#17 Texas team to travel to Ohio and play one of Ohio's top #5 teams and do pretty good. That's not to bad.

Now, hopefully Texas can extend the invitation to another Ohio (#5 power) to come to Texas next season and play on Friday night. We'll line somebody up to play them.

Good post Ben - thanks for the observations. Cole. was the better team last night for sure. I honestly could care less about national rankings - I care about Lufkin taking home a DII State crown again. Let the pundits argue - I don't have the energy for it. I honestly don't even know if Longview, SLC or Lufkin is Texas' best this year - it could easily be Katy or Spring Westfield. I personally don't think it's Lee - but Lee is a quality squad - and they got hammered last night by a better team. Congrats Ben.

And despite you trying to claim they didnt play with them JACKASS. They did play with them. Total yards 350 to like 280 so it wasnt a dominating performance by Colerain. Tyler Lee came out flat in the 1st quarter (blame it on travel and freakout factor).

Bring Colerain or another Top #5 Ohio team to Texas and lets see JACKASS !!

I'm sure their will be in invitation sent out to one of them. We'll see which one of the OHIO powers steps up and takes the offer to travel to TExas.

I have a feeling that they'll be some EXCUSES to why they cant do it.

You know.. I'm proud of REL. They took on a daunting task over the last few weeks. People that dont know alot about football dont take everything into account that football is.

They just look at the 11 kids on the 100 yd field and that it. Well, there is alot more to the game of football besides that. Their is travel, mental state, and the list goes on.

Tyler Lee took on a daunting task of traveling to Ohio and taking on a very good Colerain team in Ohio. I know they'll say it was a blowout also but it wasnt. Colerain won by 15 pts (not a blowout by High school standards).

You can attribute some of those 15 pts to (travel & mental state) of the team. REL came out flat in the 1st quarter and when the light went on (2nd,3rd and 4th QT) the first qt was to much to overcome.

They can pound their "chest" and say they the "kings" because Colerain beat REL in Ohio. That's great.

But, lets see it confirmed by extending an invitation to one of Ohio powers to come to Texas and play. Lets see (Colerain, Moeller, Elder, St.X) come to Austin next year during the Texas vs Ohio St weekend and play.

That's all I say.

Again.. Colerain is good. They're a top #5 Ohio team.

REL is probably about #13 -- #17 in Texas this season.

This weeks game against Euless Trinity at Rose stadium will really gives us (Texans) a good evaluation of how good REL is this season.

First, how the heck does a team play an out-of-state power and come out flat? My guess, they overlooked Colerain...maybe spent too much time reading posts on this thread!

Second, yes, the game was played in Ohio. Sure it means something. But, why didn't it mean something before the game? By the way, using your logic, had Chaminade Madonna played in Florida instead of in Texas, Tyler Lee would have been 1-1 going into the game against Colerain.

Finally, is it Colerain's fault that only 200 fans from Texas attended the game? I'm willing to bet that there were far more than 200 people from Texas in Columbus last night given the upcoming Texas vs. OSU game. So, why didn't those fans go support their high school?

Having said all of that....kudos to Tyler Lee for coming to Ohio to play in this event. And, best of luck the rest of the season. To those of you who are whining, you're making Texas football look pretty bad. Teams from quality programs (and their fans) win with pride and lose with dignity.

PS.. I bet it killed you seeing TRUE FRESHMAN Rb-Kestahn Moore starting for Florida last week. How did that sorry ole true freshman Texas kid get the starting nod for Coach Myers high flying offense ? Where was all that Florida talent at RB ??

OK Colerain is over. Is it true Colerain controlled the offensive line??? They should be getting back to Texas and getting ready for Trinty's O line. :)

I know.. they'll act like Colerain is the biggest, baddest team Tyler Lee has seen and was clearly outmanned. I mean it was a big 15 pt loss in Ohio to one of Ohio's Top #5 teams. A big 15 pt loss. I'm extremely impressed by the DOMINANCE.. "NOT."

You're right. Tyler Lee needs to get ready for Trinity's O-line and athletes. There bigger and faster then Colerains and I would hate to see them take a loss at Rose Stadium.

I watched the game last night and I read the threads leading up to it. No matter who won, someone was going to have to eat crow. Colerain was, no doubt, the better team. Sure, travel had a lot to do with it, the home field advantage had a lot to do with it. This is all true. In zero week when the Florida team came to Texas I didn't hear any of this. I'm not tryin' to take shots at anyone and nobody loves Texas football any more than I do, but please, put everything in perspective before you start dissing other programs or states. Remember this, your girlfriend is a ten to you but that doesn't mean she is to everybody else. By the way, the game last night was a good game to watch. You had the feeling that at anytime REL was going to break it open and they did have their opportunities. I think the size and speed (even the bigs) overwhelmed the Raiders. REL will be alright. They will do fine where it counts. In Texas. And...I believe they are a lot better than 14 to 17 in our state. Good luck. And thanks for the entertaining game last night. I was really impressed with Colerain. It should put the doubters to rest. There is football in other states who take it just as serious as we do.

Whiners and losers. Losers and whiners. It just keeps going and going and going. And by the way, your spelling, English and grammar STILL suck. You're IGNORANT. And quite honestly I don't really care who started at tailback for Florida last week. Not anybody I'm concerned about.
LOSER.

I know one thing even more sure than Colerain's win last night. TexasFroglegs, or whatever his name is, in no way, shape or form has a girlfriend that's a 10. 10's require you to have a little grasp of the English language.

Is everything in Texas "Texas Sized"?

Colerain, quite simply, is bigger, stronger, faster, and better. End of story.

Colerain, quite simply, is bigger, stronger, faster, and better than Tyler Lee. That was proven last night. Im surprised Colerain didnt hang more than they did on them. As small as Lee is up front, I was impressed with the adjustments they made at halftime to somewhat stop the option.
QB Pride is going to give alot of teams headaches.

Now....that is "End of story".

RockinL:

My brother just moved to Longview from Massillon, Ohio and is VERY excited about being there. He told me he already bought season tickets for Longview's team. Could you let me know if they are any good, and some other pertinent information on them?

Thanks.

:( I sat up until 3 watching the rebroadcast. Colerain was definitely big, fast, and well coached. Lee made some very uncharicteristic mistakes for an Owens coached team. Kicking game cost us a chance at this game. Mental mistakes and attempted arm tackling were the detriments that stood out most in my mind. In a very Owens typical fashion, Lee never did roll over. They made Colerain earn everything they got and most of it came on the big plays(runs over 20 yds). I think this team learned a lot from this experience and I could tell by the looks on our kids faces after the game, the loss was something they don't want to duplicate.

Unfortunately, we may well be playing the one team in texas, that from a size and speed standpoint, might be a good match for the Colerain bunch. Good luck to all this week and GL to REL against Euless Trinity!

Somebody said a couple posts ago, that I should gloat. Truthfully, that is not me. I thought both teams played well. REL gave up a lot of yards in the 1st half, but made some adjustments and played extremely well on defense in the 2nd half. Colerain dominated this game up front, and that is were it was won.

I'll be in Austin next week interviewing for a job, so I may actually be moving to Texas permanently. If that happens, I'm looking forward to checking out what I've said before as some of the best football in the nation.

thing is ben, that was mad_fan. DO NOT listen to mad_fan. mad_fan is not into lufkin, longview, slc, et....mad_fan is into loser teams from a loser region. when sv and judson go 4a mad_fan will still come here to NOT get scores or info on loser teams from region 4. some of these knuckleheads even think mad_fan is pi**ed off about something. MAD as in MADISON (SAN ANTONIO), MAD as in CRAZY. MAD as in REGION 4 will rule.

the top 10 polls at this place are a popularity contest. if you move to texas you will see a lot of great football, even if you never see lufkin, longview, slc, etc.
