What if Ennis, Stephenville and La Marque were in the mix with the SLC and Tyler Lee teams on the 5A level...would they make immediate impacts? All of these programs are storied and, perhaps even, legendary....would they be ranked in the Top 10, year in and year out? Would they compete for state titles?
Just like to hear your opinions!

Yeah, that's what I think, as well. It's just hard to name some great, if not good, competition on the 4A level. I can name 30 good 5A football teams off the top of my head....and maybe 5 or 6 4A teams. La Marque and Ennis win all the time on the 4A level, but would they slam into a steel wall when they get to 5A competition?
I have to think it'd be 10 times harder. It'd be interesting though. There's alot of people who truly feel the Ennis Lions or the La Marque Cougars could stand up to the level of 5A teams....and even win State Championships.

What district would you put Lamarque in? With North Shore.

Ennis would either be with the Mesquite Schools or with Desoto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Mansfield, Mansfield Summit

[Long Whistle] Uhhhhhh....I don't no about THAT, but maybe the Galveston Ball/Clear Lake/Cleer Creek district!
And actually, I think La Marque was once on the 5A level, back in the early 90's, with Texas City. They went to the playoffs, but got beat...early. As soon as they went back to 4A they started winning titles.
What district would Ennis go into?

Well I think the Mesquite schools (Mesquite/North Mesquite) are with Tyler Lee, Tyler John Tyler and Longview....if Ennis went there that would become a serious contending district!
Wow!

There has been only one team to jump to the next level and win a championship the first year. That was SLC in 2002. Smithson Valley was in the same championship game with SLC who was in its first year of 5A football as well. Denton Ryan was a great 4A team and has only lost to 1 5A team and that was SLC.
It is possible to make the jump up a class and be very competative. It takes a very good program to do that. All three of these teams would be good 5A teams because of their programs and coaches but, would probally not fare well against the best of 5A.

How do you think Carter would do if they went down to 4A??

Not very many 4A powerhouses in the DFW area...except the main one in the state...Ennis. So that would be their big hurdle every season....getting by Ennis, just so they could play for state....and the state game would probably be against a team like Kilgore or La Marque....of which might make for some good rivalries.
4A Divison I State Game: La Marque vs Carter..........gots an interesting ring to it.

DR got their butts handed to them by Highland Park in week 0. Ennis only loss last year was to Garland, and although the Garland team was good last year, they weren't great.
On the other hand, in 99, when Garland last won state, their only loss was to 4A Highland Park

does the "was" mean we only want to know about one of them being 5a or should it be were?

I'm still waiting to see Yates against Texas City, Bay City or Lamarque.

Last year John Tyler wasn't very good and played both Texas High and Kilgore to very tight games. This year, they've already beaten Texas High and people are projecting a possible 3rd for them in our district. All this to say Some 4-A teams may be able to compete with some 5-A teams, but from a sheer numbers game, they typically don't have the depth to play with a 5-A team week in and week out! You can judge for yourself how good Texas High and Kilgore were last year.

I am not sure about Smithson Valley but since the kids of the 2002 team were in 7th grade they were told that when they were seniors they would be 5A. It was not a surprise to them when they moved up and they had been preparing for this since they were in 7th grade. They played a lot of 5A teams in non-district and through most of their years playing football. I feel that if a good team uses this approach it is not a big jump from 4A to 5A

Doesn't JT play Kilgore this year? I think they will beat them this year. They are playing with alot of confidence right now. Might be 4-0 going into district.

I always let the fact that I played and dominated Texas High School Football get to my head, therefore I percieve to think I know which of these kids are going to be successful, and which will fail.(I also excelled past high school, into big time college ball and had a reasonably enjoyable pro career!)
That's funny....always, definitely and never! You're probably right!
Goodluck with Colerain!!

Two words - Denton Ryan.
I would relish Lufkin playing Highland Park - it would be soooo much fun to watch that one.

However when SLC made the jump from 3A to 4A they struggled.
