First it was their star WR - leaving for USC (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/ncaa/01/03/williams.usc.ap/index.html). Now it's Mustain (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/sec/2007-01-16-arkansas-mustain_x.htm?csp=34)! Whoa!

This is further proof of why you shouldn't choose a university based on the coaches, your buddies, what your family might try and pressure you into, etc. Choose the university that best suits your overall desires.

Heard a report that Mustain is going to head to Tulsa to team up with his former HC in high school, who Graham has hired as OC. Should be interesting to see him in the pass happy Graham offense...

I would agree and have thought so also...but you never know how far a kid will go to get away from a life of too much pressure. Sometimes enough is enough and everything that use to glitter isn't gold.
I'll put it this way. If I heard that Mustain may be paying a visit to UNT it wouldn't surprise me. Rebellion has a path of its own and doesn't care what others think.

I dont think mustain is the type to shy away from pressure. He wants to be seen so that he can make it to the next level.

TXFOOSBALL...you're talking of Football Pressure. That's not pressure to a kid like Mustain. I'm talking about Life Pressure.

I totally agree, the player needs to be the one that is comfortable when the time comes to make that decision. I think we(or me) as parents should help guide them but we should not force/choose for them.

he only re enrolled in classes because he hasnt decided what school he wants to transfer to. They didnt want to rush a decision just so he could get into classes there. His mommy said that he is for sure transfering in the spring though.

Does anybody else see the double standard? More power to Mitch Mustain.

With all the baggage he has (mom and grandma)... Who the HE*L would want him?!?!?
Sounds like problems to me. He may be a great kid, but if he doesn't play for a year (after the year he's required to sit) how long will it be before mommy and grandma are calling the local papers and TV stations to cry about why their gravy train isn't playing?
Besides, I personally don't see Mustain nearly as much of an impact on the Nat'l Championship race as McFadden. I wouldn't throw the ball much if I had him either!!

A little double-standard maybe.. Buttttt, a freshman celebrated QB doesnt need to start crying about how he should be the "main man" of the team. Mustain hadnt earned his Arkansas stripes and he had no business running his "yap" trying to make covert demands.
Hell, even sleezzy politicians dont do some of the stupid tricks he did. Talking about his coach in the newspapers and books while still on the team. Demanding to throw the ball more even though they have a freaking All-American future NFL 1st round draft pick RB that was runner-up for the Heisman that has also earned his Arkansas stripes.
Then the parents and family geting invovled and demading meetings with the coaches and trying to organize other families to have a freaking Protest basically to "demand" the coaches change their system for their freaking kids.
Not once did they think about the "TEAM." The "TEAM" doesnt really matter and it's all about "MY KID" and "I."
I really hope Mustain falls flat on his butt and face. Not that I dont like the "KID" it's just that he has a lot to learn about "TEAM WORK" and "LIFE."

A little bit off topic. But, I spent a couple of months this past summer in Arkansas (Ft. Smith) doing some training. I listened to the local Arkansas ESPN radio almost everyday which was about 95% all about Razorback football.
For about one whole week in like early August they talked about Mitch Mustain and Matthew Stafford being both highly rated freshman QB's coming into the SEC.
Everyone on those Arkansas "HOMERS" expressed over and over how much of a more complete QB Mitch Mustain was over Matthew Stafford and that Mustain was the "REAL DEAL" and Stafford would basically be just "OK" at Georgia.
I mean Mustain was just plain 100% better without a doubt when you listened the locak Arkansas ESPN "HOMERS" announcers.
PS. The next time I go back to Arkansas I'm going to call in and ask them (Arkansas ESPN radio host) how all that Mustain is going to be better than Stafford in the SEC and blah blah "CROW" taste.;) :D

Houston Nutt basically weaseled his way into getting star recruits. Did not the hiring of former Springdale High coach Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator seem shady to anyone? The hiring of Gus Malzahn is basically what sealed the deal for Arkansas landing both Mitch Mustain, and Damian Williams (coincidently, both former Springdale High players). When the season rolls around does Gus Malzahn have a real job? No, his services are no longer needed. Where is this Malzahn spread offense that Arkansas was supposed to utilize as Nutt promised Malzahn before Malzahn even took the job? Why is Mitch Mustain no longer the starter all of a sudden?
As a result of Houston Nutt's deceptions, three people decide to take their services elsewhere so they may be utilized to the fullest potential given the chance.* Gus Malzahn goes to Tulsa, Damian Williams goes to USC, and Mitch Mustain is currently looking at his options.
*Mitch Mustain has yet to actually transfer, but has been granted permission to transfer.
I'd buy into this Mitch-Mustain-is-a-spoiled-selfish-kid theory, but that's not looking at the totality of the situation objectively. Not only Mitch Mustain, but a total of three people made significant decisions based on the deceptions of Houston Nutt, and now those people want to succeed elsewhere after they realize they've been weaseled, I don't blame them.
P.S. Of this year's freshman class, the best QB in the SEC next year will be, Tim Tebow.

The main reason Mitch Mustain started over Casey Dick early in the season was because Casey Dick was recovering from an injury that kept him out of practice most of FALL training and September.
Robert Johnson was slated to be the starter but he just wasnt cutting it so they through Mustain into the fire early.
There isnt any doubt that Arkansas rolled the red-carpet out for the Springdale recruits last year. Not only did they get Mustain & Willaims. But they got the TE-Clevelend and the other WR. From what I understand both of them are staying on the team.
I also believe Nutt has said that in future seasons the offense will open up to more of the "SPREAD" but while they have Mcfadden they aint going to be throwing it all over the place. " I dont blame him either." You've got a stud like McFadden to give the rock to 25 or 30 times a freaking game then you do it. The kid can take it 100 yards in a blink.
I think Mustain and Williams just reacted like spoiled little "prima donna" kids and their parents fell right in line with them. I'm not a fan of Coach Nutt at all, but I do believe that in the near future Arkansas was going to open up the offense but Mustain and Williams couldnt hold their water.
PS. Highly debatable about Tedbow & Stafford. I've seen both of them play in High school and freshman years in college and I think Stafford is in a league of his own. He aint perfect but he comes pretty close to being perfect. Like Mel Kiper has said, "Stafford is a future NFL #1 pick in the draft."
Also.. Tedbow is a great athlete (better overall athlete than Stafford) but Stafford is a lot better pure passer with a stronger arm than Tedbow. Yes, a stronger arm than Tedbow.

Mustain is kind of a prima donna. He's a loner and more or less he didn't get his team mates to buy in to whatever he was selling. Some of that is because of his mama butting into things... I think a better QB would've either rode the storm out or just transferred quietly.
Here was a former player's take on it all it is interesting....

Stafford might be the best NFL prospect(out of the three)....it's looks like he threw too many int's last year though. The sky is the limit for him.

Stafford threw a lot of picks early on when he was thrown to the wolves and told to survive. But, he came back strong in the second half of the season and beat Auburn and Va Tech in the Bowl game and was the Bowl game "MVP.";)
Not bad for a true-freshman QB.
