With Cedar Hill losing over 50 seniors to graduation:eek: I was trying to figure out what the opinions are out there for the 2007 Longhorns.

Really good again. Anyone who has been around the program recently understands the enormous amount of talent they have at all levels. It may take them a little while to become adjusted to their roles for next year's team but they will definately have the opportunity to be very good again. It will be fun watching the stud younger guys develop.

haha. Yeah I'm a big Texas fan too and so I usually can't go wrong when I see something that says Longhorns on it. It's usually either Texas or Cedar Hill. So, I'm set. :D

Yep. I have been accused of being a fanatic before :o but I am more than willing to take that on.
I'm seriously very excited about next year for Cedar Hill though. When you have as many athletes as they do it is just fun to watch them do their thing. Watching their team this year was awesome and I expect similar enjoyment in the future. They may not win a state title, but it should be fun watching them try.

Based on what I know about their returning talent at this point, not that much, I'd say expect them to be good again in 2007 (maybe not state championship good, but good) and that they'll be ready to contend again in 2008-2009 perhaps.
All programs react differently to "THE TARGET". You have programs like Carroll who decide they'd like to win 3 or 4 in a five year period and then you have programs like Tyler Lee who experience a drop off after winning the big game. It'll be interesting to see how Cedar Hill handles it.

Or you have teams like Humble, who have all the talent to do it...But none of the will.

This is a very good point made. Cedar Hill is not use to this kind of success. Being the defending state champions, every team they play will come out like they are playing for a state championship. They need to gell sooner than later, but if they do they have the talent to do some good things. James Hamilton should be the quarterback next year and if they take his lead they should be fine. Hamilton is a very good talent (running and throwing) with a linebacker type mentality. I am hoping that his aggresive approach on the field will give the players around him confidence that may be lost with the departure of Cole.

I think that the spring will tell how good we will be next year. The O-line has 3 retuning lettermen with experience coming back and Hamilton is going to surprise a lot of people(the kickoff team is going to miss him:( ). The Defense is the real Question Mark for me, but I believe there was a lot of talent in the Junior and Sophomore pool that did not get an opportunity to play b/c of how deep we were in senior talent.
The opportunity to repeat is there for C.H. can the current underclassmen step up and fill the roles of the '06/'07 class?

haha. I feel ya on the comment about missing him on the kickoff team. That kid was a monster out there. I felt bad for some of the return men at times.
I think the back 8 on the defensive side of the ball will be good again (just from looking at the guys that we have coming back and coming up). Jarvis over the center is a monster but a few kids at defensive end really need to emerge. If that can happen then I think the defense has a chance to be really good again. With our offense I feel pretty comfortable.:D

It probably sounds dumb to some when people talk about the difficulty of playing with that target you get as a champion or perennial power. I've witnessed it firsthand given I grew up here in Katy and chose to be back in this area after school. I can't really describe what it means in words, and it is really one of those things you just have to experience for yourself.
It definitely raises the stakes considerably, but that's something any program that desires greatness should welcome. That's why I really liked Coach McGuire's postgame interview. He said "This is what we want." The eyes of Texas are now upon the Cedar Hill program.

I Understand what you are saying, The Target is definitely going to be huge. The squad is going to have to bring it every game b/c week in and week out teams are going to want to knock the reigning Champs out.
I just want to say that these young men are so close that I liken it to a younger brother wanting to excel and outdo what the older brother has accomplished, that is the vibe I get. I may be proven wrong but it seems as though the underclassmen are waiting to prove themselves just as much as the Seniors had to "shock the world" this season.

I have a cousin who only came to see Hamilton on the Kickoff coverage, He called me when we were in Midland to get an update on his hits.:D
There were a couple of very quick D-ends that played J.V. that I thought could very easily have been on Varsity. I do not know what the linebacking corps looks like, and I believe there is going to be a little bit of movement in the Defensive Backfield, there is a current Sophomore that I really like, I hope that he makes some improvements to get in the mix back there.

What kind of off-season regiment does Cedar Hill have?
I know programs like Permian, Judson and Katy have all run boot camp influenced off-season regiments over the years. Permian did this in their golden age, but they are getting back to that work ethic with the new staff. I'm not sure what Carroll does.
I think that's a really important part of any program. There are many that completely disband until spring or fall while the players go choose other sports. I think now is when you start setting the tone for the new year and season.
I always tell people who ask about Katy's program I wish they could come and watch the players work in January-April when the lights are off at the stadium and no one is watching. It's just you and your teammates sweating and bleeding. That's where you learn to not only push yourself to the proverbial wall, but to tear the S.O.B. down and emerge stronger on the other side.
That's how champions are made in my opinion.

If you are not involved in another sport such as Basketball, Soccer, or Baseball, the off-season practically started Monday January 8th. I believe(I am not 100% sure) all the player's are involved with Powerlifting and sometime in the not too distant future Boot Camp rolls around and then spring Ball/Track.

When I was at Katy, we (skill guys) mat drilled on Mon-Wed-Fri and lifted on Tues and Thurs. Then, we added 150m sprints and obstacle course in addition to mat drilling. Eventually, stopped mats just before spring drills and did 150s/obstacle and then carry drills (fireman, baby, wheel barrow) on the field. Crab walking the width of the field and back was fun as well. You ran the risk of being set back pretty far if you went to play another sport, but obviously some players found a way to stay in shape and keep up with the rest.
We had people transfer in and then quit the program because of the off-season. It's a huge reason why 120-130 come out for freshman tryouts and only 60 or so are left by senior year. If you aren't there for the right reasons, you will not last.

I feel you on that one, that is why I think this senior class was so special. It was a testament to the fact that 50+ went through 4 years of Boot Camp together, a lot of the player's are very proud to wear their "Boot Camp" t-shirts. I personally do not know what is involved on a daily basis but it seems to be pretty rigorous and definitely prepares the player's for a grueling season.
