THEY ARE TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT QB'S
i love em both like brothers.
i like ponders style of run and gun and i like caseys rocket-laser like arm(thank you peyton manning).
apples and oranges
personally though i think we should have had a 2 qb backfield the 2005 season with ponder acting as the running back and casey throwing and then to throw people off have ponder roll out and throw a bomb

I thought Casey was better. I think he saw the game better and had a better arm. Ponder gave up on the pass early and it often got him into trouble when he went to his feet early.

I guess I can see that...
I'll be honest about what's clouding my vision. 2 awful performances against SLC that I witnessed, and 1 pretty damned good one by Ponder.

I understand... what sticks in my mind from Ponder was a fumble against Grapevine his last game that killed us. I hate it that one play kills my memory of all the good things!

i think when it's all said and done, winning is what matters, therefore russell gets the nod. i think ponder will be better in college, btw.

I think Ponder was more consistent than Russell. Russell seemed to play with a lot more emotion (lots of fist pumping after a great play or TD). However when things weren't going well, Russell seemed to disappear at least as much as a spread offense QB can disappear.
Since there wasn't a good running back the last two years, it was important for the QB to run. And Ponder was by far the better runner being faster and stronger. To me Ponder's injury limited him in the second half of the year and maybe if completely healthy the team wouldn't have had to go to OT against Grapevine where he fumbled.
And while both of their fathers were professional athletes, those of you who know Dave Ponder realize that you don't want that man coming after you. He could destroy you. And he told me several years ago when Jon Ponder was the fastest player on CHHS that he could outrun Jon in the 40, while Jon would whip him in the 100. So since he could catch me and kill me my vote is for Ponder.:D

I really liked both QBs. Ponder was about as good as an athelete as you will see. Casey had a little more emotion to his game. I think what seperated them is the fact that Casey seemed to be a better leader, the team this year seemed to take on his personality. No knock on Ponder, but Casey really stepped up this year. You could easily argue it either way. Ponder has a chance to play at FSU, though, I think...
For me, its Casey, but with an asterick...I love Casey and I love his attitude, but he really let the pressure of both SLC games get to him. He looked like a completely different player. I think thats the reason many Southlake people on here would choose Ponder. If you take those two games out, Casey was incredible. But those SLC games will linger in my memory when it comes to thinking of his season....

I know the thread was titled Colleyville posters, but I would like to contribute:
Russel took them further. The thing that amazes me about Russell is, if you saw him walking in the street, you wouldn't think he is even an athlete. When he is playing sports, it is a different story.

Tyler Little or Steven Hill... probably Little.
I'm less concerned about the QB than I am about the evolution of the rest of the team... running game? D-Line? O-Line? And no matter how good I think Joel Quintinilla and Shane Hilliard are, they have some rather large shoes to fill as receivers.

next years qb could be hill from what i have been hearing. but if its not then they should do what SLC did with riley and rotate him in every third series because you have to keep that kid focused on football for his senior year and not baseball
the pro's to go with little is that he know the system
the pro's to go with hill is that he's big, can run, and he can throw and if he was to start next year he would be a real stud on a really good 09' team

Total joke...If he doesn't get hurt and we beat Highland Park in 1998, leads us to a victory the next week against Carroll (now I'm really pushing it) then past Stephenville in the next game (really , really pushing it) then maybe he's #1.
Ponder and Russell are a close #1 and #2. Followed by Shawn Smith (haha), then Tomcheck at #4.

As this is the Colleyville posters thread, that's a very good point.
Carroll isn't an issue for me. That's just not a game to spend much time on. Play it, don't get anyone hurt, and get ready for the games that can make a difference in the season.
I don't have high expectations for next season at this point. The goal of next season is to beat Grapevine. Winning that one game defines a good season because it's friendly competition for many people in the school district community. It's especially fun for the Colleyville Middle School and Grapevine Middle School alumni families who have been split between the two high schools.
The secondary goal is to secure a playoff spot which means being better than four of the other five teams - Haltom, Richland, Keller, Central, and Northwest. I hope Grapevine can beat all of them. Otherwise the odds are against Colleyville Heritage making the playoffs.

You may be right. Hard for me to put Grapevine in the top 2 considering how badly their sub-varsity looked against SLC. SLC will beat GV, GV should be the lead contender for #2. CV has a good young group returning and should finish #3. Northwest to get the last playoff spot. Thus, SLC and CV go D1 again.

GVine will be real good next year...they have everyone coming back (which may be why the sub-varsity looked bad), they will be tough....whoever said Colleyville lost all its defense is wrong, they actually have quite a few returning and played a lot of sophomores last year....they have to replace some skill players on offense and some linemen, but I think they will be tough again next year...their JV was very good to add to the sophomores already playing up...I could see them being a lot like GVine last year...a good team with a LOT of juniors doing the heavy lifting...I expect GVine, SLC, and Colleyville to be the top three (not in that order), with the rest of the teams fighting for the last spot, much like last year....

CVILLE will be fine and make the playoffs again next year
look for a unique qb situation much like SLC two years ago. also look for a stronger running game. the receiving corps at the VILLE is all around good. of coarse we wont have breece or evan, so look for quantinilla and hillard to step up big.
as far as the o-line it will be a great problem to have right now because there are no gauranteed spots but come around 2 a-days it will be figured out. same with the d-line.
should be a good year next year but an even better year in 08'

Unfortunately, I agree... although since my boy will be a senior this year, I would have hoped for the stronger year in '07 ;) .
CV will definately need to have some people step up to fill some holes, the O-line is a pretty big concern although we have one kid with the size and ability, but needs to get a little meaner (Micheal Wormley), but thats only one.
But hey, these kids are 16-18 years old and can develop quickly, who knows what will happen over the next several months.

Who comes back on CV defense? Hightower,Foster,Schnieder,Hornbuckle? CV's junior class is alot like GV's this year but not as deep. Look for this year to be the last good season for GV. JV team was terrible maybe because we like to move up our best sophmores. Our O-line is our main concern I would think with only two players returning, one with two years of experience already. CV is in much worse shape with their offense. CHHS running game will probly pick up next year but they also don't have their 2 all-state recievers that other defenses has to worry about. I highly doubt that CV can just pound the ball with their sophmore runningback. We'll see what happens more towards spring ball. Def. looking foward to it!

Bryan Head may not be able to pound the ball all game long as a JR next year, but it will at least open some things up for a weaker pass offense than what we had this year. Going into games this year, especially during the playoff run, teams knew we were going to pass the ball 95% of the time. If Head can show the running ability he did against SGP in the playoffs, all year long, then the passing game could really open it. I don't worry about the defense. They will be stout with the young guys they have coming back.
I agree with Rico, give them an off season to improve and who knows what happens. Some 15-16 year old kids right now, can use this time to improve into 16-17 year old men by the time the season starts...

i'm somewhat surprised since they select twice as many on each team. of course the coaches select the all-district and they should have better insight and knowledge about the players than some moron writer from ep or rgv who has never seen any team except slc play. of course coaches also hold grudges and can be politicked.

Good analysis. Go 1 step further. I picked SLC, GV, CV, NW in that order. You've picked 3 of the same 4 with no order. Go ahead and rank them. You've already made the arguement. Let's see where you go.
I would say 1. SLC 2/3. GV or CVille (whoever wins that game, I expect it to be close as usual) 4. I honestly have no idea, not sure what NW brings back...I think Keller should be better...they were young on defense...
Not a copout answer on the GVine or Colleyville at #2, but I don't expect either team to lose to anyone but SLC, and so the GVine-Colleyville game will determine it, and that game is NEVER a blowout, I would say right now I would give the edge to GVine. GVine will look a lot better early on due to their schedule. We open with Cedar Hill, play a Denton Ryan team that was all juniors and Carroll in the first part of the season, so we will know more about Colleyville than GVine until near the end part of the season (a lot like last year)...
As far as all-district, lot of politics involved, and they vote before the playoffs start (or after the first week), so that would have helped us more, they just don't release the results till all the teams are knocked out....I only had a few arguments...you have to remember they try to spread it around as much as possible...thought Howe should have been first team LB though....that and both Evan and Breece should have been first team along with Cantu....those were the most dangerous guys in the district out there....no one game planned for the Keller kid...

I agree that Matt should have made All District. Don't know if I would put him over Justin Padron though. After all, the leader of the best defense in the district/area should be the def MVP, as he was. But, Howe should have definitely been on the team. Good kid, good player. Where's he leaning to play?

I don't think he should have been defensive MVP, just first team at LB...but like I said, all-district is tough because all teams have to be represented, so some kids get left out because a bad teams best player is at a certain position...

From what i hear CHHS has A LOT of important holes to fill. They have only a running back coming back for next year and from whaat i hear the qb situation is a mess. I expect them to make the playoffs but at the 4th seed. SLC will win district again, but not as easy and GHS will get 2nd beating everyone except SLC. GHS is returning all their skill postions and 2 O-line on offense and both OLB's, 1 CB, and both SS and FS on defense.

Good analysis. Cville has a very good JV team that will help fill many of their holes. Cunningham will get them to the playoffs.

The basketball game last night between Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine gave the fans what they came for. The intra-school district contest brings out lots of people from both schools, more than at other games, and the student sections are much more entertaining than at football games because of their proximity. It keeps the principal, three assistant principals, the head football coach, the tennis coach, and a police officer "engaged", and that's just on the home team side. Since Colleyville Heritage was ahead essentially the whole game, one side was more lively than the other. But as Grapevine caught up and could have won in the final minute, it was exciting for all. It was fun for my son to watch a church friend start for Grapevine as a sophomore.
I posted earlier that Casey Russell played with more emotion than Christian Ponder. He displays a lot of emotion encouraging the basketball team as well. Or was that "discouraging" the visiting team;) since the students sit behind their bench?
I like all of the district games but I'm looking forward to the February 13 game at Grapevine.

I attended the basketball game last year between the two teams and what I saw was boring basketball for 32 minutes and two immature student sections who were unoriginal and uncreative.

did you have any friends at L.D. BELL because it just seems like all you do is go to colleyville events and then bash on em.
i know colleyville is probably way above your caliber anyways so you just dont understand so i suggest you stay in the mid-cities
oh and find some new friends instead of the ones from colleyville who you bash behind there backs
