I'd like to request that everyone please keep player injury information you may have "in-house" unless it has been published by a credible media source/publicly confirmed by a coaching staff.

That's very sensitive information that doesn't belong on a public forum in my opinion and would like to keep it in check before we start getting multi-page threads on what might have happened at Tuesday's practice, or the possible severity of a injury in the second quarter, or who fell down the stairs at the party on Friday night...etc.

Thanks for your cooperation,

KT

Now wait a minute let me get this clear?? We are not allowed to say if a player is injured or not?? Or are you just talking about speculating on the details?? If it is a known fact why is that a problem?? Heck, Coach Outlaw talks in the paper every Wednesday on who is hurt and how long. We just found out one of out dlineman has a sprained knee and will be out in 2 weeks. It is not like we are discussing that he has herpes or hiv or something?? It is your board but why on God's green earth would this be a problem?? So say if Lufkin's qb is out for the next game!! I am not allowed to say he is out with whatever injury it is. Example sprained knee?? That is odd in my opinion but maybe i am completley misinterpreting your statement?? If i am i apologize. I work at some medical facilites and i know all the HIPPA guidlines and i promise you it is safe to discuss a football injury that happened in front of thousands of people. It is like we are opening up the guy's personal files or anything.

I'm assuming KT is referring to the so-called Drabek wreck and other info that is published here long before it is reported by a coach in a paper.

This problem was highlighted during the UT spring scrimmage when it was immediately posted on a forum that Shipley had gone down with an injury minutes after it happened - the family hadn't been notified yet. And, the worst offense was when the D lineman for A&M died 3 or so years ago - it was put on an Aggie board before the family had been informed.

I think these are things KT is referring to - and I totally agree. Leave it alone, certainly until after it is reported in a paper. Even then, there will be speculation as to how severe the injury may be. But, I do acknowledge Pack's concern over reasonable discussion points - a team's overall injury report.

I think this is in regards to the Drabek incident. And I agree with that.
We shouldn't come on here an discuss private matters that happen off the field. If I guy gets hurt in practice or in a game...that's different. But a car accident, or something of that nature should be private until the player or the team makes it public.

Oh i agree with that and I bet you guys are right about what kt meant. I am sure he did not mean we could not discuss a football injury that is public knowledge that had been discussed in the papers. I hope not anyways.

At this point I am just curious whether or not Drabek will play on saturday. Just a simple yes or no would be sufficient - without talking about any alleged injury.

I just want to know from a pure football perspective. From a personal point of view - I don't wish injury to anyone whether it be football, auto, hurricane, etc.. related.

I have seem TV and read the paper today and I have not seen anything about this. If the thread about him being hurt was false then I would want that member banned. If it is true - then shame on him for reporting it before the school/coach did.

Pack08,

What you're referring to would be OK if people are referring to it a week or two later and discussing it as it pertains to a team's performance (and the said injury has been conveyed through the media and/or coach). However, I'm going to really crack down on rumors/more recent stuff. We've always deleted rumor type posts and speculative threads.

I don't think it's really wise for fans to discuss injuries in any capacity on a public forum like this, but that's just my opinion. If that sounds ridiculous, ask your coach or a few parents about it and they'd probably agree with me.

The bottom line is that is the kind of info that really toes the line. Because of the speed news is travelling with the Internet, people who run sites (like us) should regulate that sort of thing and not let it get out of hand. Imagine being a coach or parent and seeing pages of discussion speculating on an injury to your player/son just hours (or less) after it happened.

If we let it go then it leaves the door open for things I just won't have on this forum. I'm all for freedom of speech, and we haven't had many problems with injury discussion on here, but that kind of info should really stay in-house at least initially until it's been published by a credible media source or publicly confirmed by a coaching staff.

Thanks. Its one thing to talk about it after the week is up, but I assume you saw the post about SV, and if you have not, please delete it. Its sad that it was the one of the teams players that posted it. Hopefully it will not happen again.

This is ludicrous...How am I supposed to bet if I don't know the teams full injury report

Kidding Kidding...I agree that off-field incidents and rumors should not be posted, however...if a kid gets banged up in practice, the coach isn't going to put it in a paper. He doesn't want the opponents to know so they can't gameplan for the absence, etc...if someone gets wind of it and wants everyone to know though, I don't see how thats a problem. Thats the way things are in this day and age. I don't think its immoral and I think its valuable info for people to know if someone got hurt.

It'd be valuable info for your opponent. I just don't see why a supposed fan of any school would want to post the kind of situation you are referring to on the Net. It makes no sense to me. Don't get me wrong, I value the input people have because we obviously can't be everywhere but I also believe that there is information best kept in-house. Not everything needs to be aired on a public forum.

Frequently, we are privilege to "inside information" by parents and coaches through e-mail and occassionally in person that we don't race back here to publish for all to see because it's given in confidence and/or just too sensitive to be out in the open.

Then i will have no problem because i do not speculate about injuries i just tell injuries that i know are fact's that i read in the paper. I do not go by rumors!! I understand that part but it is not like the rumor is about a guy having HIV, cancer etc etc or something they are saying a guy might possibly have a physical injury from a football game or practice. BIG difference and it is not a violation of any law but it can be insensitive if people make up bull or speculate. I forget we do live in a very sensitive world but it is your site and your the boss and you make the calls here not me. I never came in here with any false injury info anyway so i am good. I understand your point and i am glad we can still report legit injuries because it would be silly to be quiet about a big game knowing that 5 of their starters were going to be out. LOL That is big info when discussing a game the last time i checked. As for us hurting our own teams by giving real injury reports?? There is something called scouting and if the other team has any type of decent advanced scouting they would know already. Not to mention most teams report their injuries to their local paper. If they are going by some people from the net they need help ASAP!! Just my 2 cents but again you are the man and i am just one of many of your faithful members in here. :)
