They was quite a debate on another post about whether William Cole was a one year wonder or an all time great. You can look up his entire career HS stats on the Dallas Morning News website. Their HS leaderboard has team & individual stats for Dallas area schools going back to 2003. Did you know he played at least some varsity ball as a freshman? From 2003 Cedar Hill indv. stats, he carried 2 times for 4 yds, was 5-7 passing for 39 yds, caught 4 passes for 42 yds; no TDs. It looks like a late season varsity call up, maybe 3 games. As a Sophomore, he played QB- 921 yds. rushing, 6.5 ave., 7 TDs. 141-250 passing, 1935 yds, 17TDs 10 int. 2856 total yds, 24 TDs accounted for-10 games- no playoffs. Junior year- must've been a WR\RB- 59 carries for 593 yds(10.1 ave per carry), 9TD; caught 12 passes fro 224 yds(18.7 ave) 4 TDs; 14 TDs total scored( 1 other TD, probably a punt or KO return)- 11 games played by the team, don't know if he missed any games. Senior year, you know the story, 2900+ rushing, 10.4 ave. 42 TDs, 1600+ passing, 21 TD passes, 9 int.- 63 TDs accounted for in 16 games, 4500+ total yards.
Career- 8300+ total yards rushing, passing & recieving, 101TDs accounted for-58 rushing, 4 recieving, 38 passing( 19 ints), one other. Cedar Hill played 10 games total in 2003 & 2004, 11 in 2005, & 16 in 2006. He probably played in around 40 or less varsity games in his career. The yardage total does not include return yardage, but I assume at least 1 return TD. Those are his stats, the source is the Dallas Morning News website. Look it up yourself to verify. Are these stats worthy of all time greatness in Texas HS football? Decide for yourself. My take is mixed. Without his Senior year, he was an outstanding athlete who played multiple positions; his Senior year was one of the best statistically in 5A football, especially the 63 TDs accounted for. The leadership factor has to figured also. He was originally slated to be the starting RB, until his best friend, the retuning starter at QB, was injured. He stepped in & led his team to a state championship. Different people will have different opinions- tha doesn't mean they are evil if they disagree.:D

3,000 yards rushing is astounding.

Has 3,000 yards rushing with 1,600 yards passing ever been done?

Good stuff. Appreciate the research! Regardless of if his career is among the all-time greats, I know for a fact that his season this year will go down as one of the all-time best. That is enough for me.

The stats from '03 and '04 are from a different Will Cole who is 2 years older than this one. As a freshman this Will played freshman football and as a sophmore he was on the JV.

Sorry to correct you, but he was not slated to be THE starting running back. That was Corey Roney. Will was going to be the guy who was the 2nd back in the backfiled when they were in 2 back. When it was a spread or trips formation, Will was the inside receiver.

My vote for POY and Offensive Newcomer goes to William Cole. With Riley Dodge a close second for POY

Wow! Is that true? I had no idea. I was just looking at past year's stats & naturally assumed that a William Cole in 2003 & 04 was the same William Cole in 2005 & 2006. You are probably right about being the RB\WR, that seems to be what he was in 2005. Sorry for the misinformation, if this is true.
