After keeping a good eye on both of these teams the past two weeks it would be a good chance to see these two in action at state...trinitys offense is just as good or better but defense is as equal to slc...what do you think?

It's a long way off, but I think this year has a more than zero chance the Dragons could go the Div. 1 route....

For SLC to go to D1, then any 2 of Denton Ryan, Grapevine or Richland would also have to make the play-offs and they would be in D2.

If that were to happen they would meet in the first round, sending home a good team early. I still think Trinity's defense is not outstanding, and could be torched by Southlake's. It would be high scoring but Southlake would probably win.

Why was the thread closed on the katy wr's?? Either way this is what i try to post before it said it was locked.
edit this to iowa before pack0808 has a conniption.
Me having a conniption?? Never!! ;) I am offended you would think i would of such an outburst. LMAO Seriously, Chandler made some big catches in that bowl game for Iowa but he was hardly the main reason for the win. He contributed though. He is not a starter by the way and he only caught a handful of balls so far in his career. He comes in as a te in throwing situations because his blocking skills are not up to par on what the hawkeyes like. They have bigger kid in there when they want to run the ball. He was a wr in hs and he is not the most muscular guy so that is probably why he is having problems with blocking. He has a long way to go before he is a star on the Hawks but he is tough for lb's to cover as a te. I have been impressed with him so far but he does seem a little hesistant about going over the middle. He prefers the outs and the fade type patterns. You know if you are talking about the Iowa Hawks that i am going to know every single detail. LOL
Ok on with the slc/trinity thread!! ;)

I think Grapevine has a shot at making the play-offs this year, they look pretty good if you ask me...Denton Ryan could aslo see the play offs again this year...I have to admit I would LOVE to see SLC go DI and take on Euless Trinity

I think the real reason you want SLC to go D1 is so that you won't have to meet Carroll in the first round

Well i hate to say this but SLC beat a team that beat Tyler Lee by 11 last year in my Lufkin Panthers. :( Tyler Lee would still have given SLC hell even though i think SLC would have won. Tyler Lee is tough period and i do not care who they play. They will give you hell for 4 quarters and if you are lucky enough to beat them your heart as a fan will still be pounding at the end because it takes all 4 quarters to beat them. I personally think Longview would have a great shot against SLC last year but that is all pointless to think about. They were the undefeated champs and they deserved to be called the best.

It would be one of the greatest games in Texas football history. Both teams have similar styles(strong offense that just racks up the points with a solid, but not great defense). If both teams played at the level they've played at the past 2 weeks, I'd have to give it to Trinity. Last year's carroll team vs. this trinity team would prolly go to carroll. Seems like everybody is getting a little ahead of themselves though, Trinity has Tyler Lee in 2 weeks which will be their shot to realliy show how good they are this year.

I Didn't read any of the thread, but This game could be 100-100 in OT. Neither team has the greatest defense in the world. They may be two of the best offenses in the state.
It's really scary to see the lack of defense in the state. I haven't been on Lufkin's bandwagon yet, but Lufkin is gonna win the state title. They are the only team that plays bonafide defense.

They are the only team that plays bonafide defense.I'd suggest you ask Lufkin, Abilene, Denton Ryan or Smithson Valley about SLC's defense. SV's offense only had ONE sustained drive the entire game. Abilene had a powerfull offense but needed an on-side kick recovery to make the game close.
Since SLCs offense scores so fast the D is on the field a lot. SLC destroys most opponents and still has much lower time of possession. That means the D is on the field.
SLC's 2005 D may be the most improved part of the team from last year with the possible exception being the corp of wide receivers.

Last year i was very impressed with SLC's defense but in 2002 it was suspect but was better then average.
Hey, I guess the only team SLC would want to have another crack at is Katy. Except maybe Ennis?? I bet SLC would enjoy beating Ennis by about 35 which i think they would do quite easily now. There is no comparison between those 2 these days. I also bet Katy would like to have another crack at Lufkin in the playoffs instead of the regular season. But yes, Lufkin would like another crack at SLC because LP knows how close they were both times they faced SLC. It is just human nature to want to have another shot. Especially when you were so close to tasting victory. It is probable it could happen again. Probably come down to the Lufkin/Longview game again.

The longest lasting result of the loss to Katy is that people still point to the Katy game and say "See they can be beat!"
The Defense for SLC is very good and has shown an ablity to stop running teams. They have given up yards but not a lot of points until the game is really out of reach and the 2nd and 3rds are in. The SLC offense is a different beast. There have been at least 9 different kids score TD's this year in 2 games. You can never key on just one or two kids. That is what puts the most presure on any defense. When SLC scores it tends to put the opposing team in a panic mode knowing that they have to score everytime SLC does and they soon get out of their own game plan and then fall prey to the SLC defense that just needs 2 or 3 stops to allow the offense to win the game.

09-08-2005, 01:31 PM
So far, it appears that Renfro and the quarterbacks are lacking a little timing. He has been underthrown a few times and overthrown a couple of times. As soon as they get their timing down, how in the world do you stop him AND Jacobson?!!? And then you have to stop the running threat of Dodge and the talent at the other wr positions.

He will be there soon and when he does, he will do it in Renfro fashion; 3 or 4 in a game!!It appears to me that McElroy hasn't been able to throw long enough to catch up with Renfrow's speed. Renfrow has been open but the deep balls have consistently been underthrown. Maybe it's McElroy's injury and maybe it's just timing. When they get it together it will be fun to watch.
Since McKay usually runs the shorter routes or the routes over the middle he is getting tons of catches. Add Smiter (plus 5 other guys) to the mix and it's unstoppable.
One last point, since Dodge has 8 receivers to platoon they are ALL fresh during long offensive drives or in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Look for some tired DBs to be burned consistently at these times. That's one reason why the SLC offense explodes. It's no accident. The opposing defense is exhausted.

you know, i never thought that fatigue , or lack thereof made a great difference in years past, but i can certainly see it now. as stated previously, what could be more mentally challenging than breaking up a long pass, and seeing clint renfro come trotting out to face you for the next race, er play? after a while it becomes physically challenging too.

Since this thread is about guessing whether Carrol or Trinity would win should they meet, I'll add my 2 cents worth...I've seen Trinity play & Carroll has a better defense and a better offense than Trinity. That would earn you a win most of the time. Trinity is impressive though, they play the style of ball that can give the Dragons trouble, by being able to possess the football. I wish them luck on a good & healthy season.

When was our last home game? I know this is after at least 8 in a row away from the friendly confines of Ledbetter, I mean Dragon Stadium....Seven of the next eight SLC games are either at Dragon Stadium or 1/2 mile away at Grapevine/Colleyville stadium. Not much travel this year. The only other game is in Denton and will be televised.

The one aspect of the SLC games that nobody has talked about is the length of the games. The no huddle offense does not allow the other team to get a rest before the next play happens. Plus with the large number of first downs that the Dragons get, the clock stops. The last two games that SLC has played both lasted close to 3 1/2 hours! Plus the SLC offense gets a lot more plays in a game because they get set and go! SLC may not win the time of possession stat but I bet you can check that they have a lot more offensive plays than their opponents. The shear number of plays and the wear and tear on the opposing defense trying to cover everybody on every play wears teams down. You might be better off suiting up your cross country team to play against the SLC offense! The tempo of the game is electrifiying or terrifiying depending on if you are watching the SLC offense or the opposing defense.
I do not believe that the conditioning of the Trinity team with its stable of huge kids would be able to hang with the Dragons during the 3rd and 4th quarters. That is not to say that the Trinity team is in bad shape, just not good enough shape to run 20 yard wind sprints for 3 1/2 hours.

Dragonfan....I guess you have not been to a Trinity game. They have no injuries, and during the last part of the game they are standing tall. They have physiaclly outlasted the other teams and are in great shape. They also have a very strong platoon system that has given all players plenty of experience. The first string has only had tp play maybe a total of one game out of two in time. Believe me...they ARE in great shape. Big players in shape wear down the little guys.
