Ok guys, this game has what it takes to be great. THe Owls may rebound from a tough loss that showed them many of their holes in their game. Ennis won the 4A state championship (not sure if it was D1 or D2)last year and got beat by Garland last year, giving them something to prove. THe game is at Ennis.

Had to go with Ennis :( Tim, Devonta, and Devin are not playing and they want to kill us. Of course I'll be cheering hard for us but just trying to be realistic since they want to beat us so bad.

They are sitting Donta, Tim and Devin for just this week? Or are they hurt?

Since this game is played in Ennis, I see the Lions waltzing to a eazy victory, this might be the toughest place to win a game at as there is in the state.

Not Donta, Devonta Brown (DE). All those guys are hurt (not badly though) and I believe Tim will not be back until district.

I will never slam a program such as Garland, they earned my respect way back when I was a kid, however playing in Ennis is a different story, I think Coach Harrell and crew will be better prepared for this game then Garland, and that is the reason I see Ennis waltzing to a victory, just look at recent history and it shows that no one leaves Ennis with a victory, I think that trend holds this week.

Where was the game at last week when Ennis barely beat a weak 5a team FM Marcus 20-17?? They just do not sound very intimidating?? Maybe they are a completley different team at home like Farmer said?? I know i usually trust his football judgements. Too bad Garland is banged up for this one. Injuries are just a tough part of football though. Everybody has to deal with them.

Crosby's probably playing both sides of the ball because he's the best one at both spots. He's a good athlete. I've got to go with the Owls this week. I didn't see the game last week so I don't know "first hand" just how bad it looked but, I've gotta believe that any team that battles back from 14 piont deficits twice in a game (one of those with 5 1/2 minutes left in the game) has got to have the character to re-focus for the game this week.

There are a rash of injuries following the DeSoto game. Some who will not play have already been listed here. It will be a very tough game, and Ennis should be favored. I have no doubts that the Owls will play much better than last week, but the players who are out will be missed.
We can't feel sorry for ourselves, though. Ennis lost their starting QB before they played us last year, and no one felt sorry for them.
If you are looking for some optimism, think about this: 8 fumbles (five lost) and an interception, and it took 5 overtimes for one of the best 5A teams in the area to beat us...
pack0808
09-07-2005, 10:08 AM
So exactly how many starters are out and what positions do they play? Yall are getting me worried?? I wanted Garland to go in and embarrass 4a Ennis at their own place.

I agree with Owlfan1,
As dissappointed as I was to hear that the Owls had lost last Friday night and then to get on here and hear how poorly our boys played made me sad. Then when I opened up the paper Sat morning and read the box score, my first thought was .... WOW... soo many turnovers / played so bad / and still took 5 OT's to beat'em. I'll tell you one thing, I now know that the OWLS will fight you til the end. They could have shut down several time the other night, by all accounts, but they didn't. It's good to know that our guys are never out of it.

Ennis beat Marcus at home, last week they went into Lumpkin Stadium in Waxahachie and pounded a good Waxahachie team 34-10, they are a team with a lot of inexperience, however they are still Ennis and beating them in Ennis rarely happens. Last year they blew a 20-0 4th quarter lead in Garland, something tells me they wont let that happen again.

09-07-2005, 11:47 AM
Yeah but if they only beat a very weak 5a fm marcus team by 3 at home why would you think a solid 5a garland team has no chance there?? If they are not too severely banged up i would say Garland has a very good chance. Those guys are resiliant and play tough football. I think it will be very close either way.

I'm going with Night Birds on this one. I just think that Garland's defense will present trouble for Ennis. They probably won't see another defense all season as tough as Garland's.
I think this will be a good game.

But I need some suggestions for good games this week... my other favorite team in the area, Trinity, has a bye... Im not going to make it to Ennis for the Garland game either, so anybody recommend some good games in the DFW area?

09-07-2005, 02:13 PM
Even if Garland patched up the defense, there are still a lot of people out due to injuries... Even with a full healthy team it is hard to get a win playing at Lion Stadium, much less with some key people not playing...
I wouldnt be surprised if Ennis wins, but I hope the Owls can pull out a W. :D

Well, I will be at the game and one of the toughest things the owls will have to overcome is the lack of a large crowd. I could really tell at DeSoto that when we yelled, we impacted the game. The crowd was small there and I can only imagine that it will be even smaller this week against Ennis. 'm getting pumped, and hopefully other students are too...

I think a lot of people who may have come, both last week and this week, are thinking twice because gas prices are so high. The drive out to Ennis will cost about $30.
There's no way we'll match the intesity of the Ennis crowd - they will fill their side by 6:00 p.m., and they are loud and rowdy. In fact, I'll bet this week is reminescient of the playoff game in '03 at Ennis. If you remember, Lufkin had way more fans than we did... but we won. :D

Huh? 90 miles round trip from Garland at 20 mpg is 4.5 gal x $3.00/gal is $13.50. Most folks have at least one vehicle that gets better than 9 miles per gallon. It's good football. Be there.

Haven't been to G-town in a while....you Garland guys know how Lakeview is doing? Their chances? And what's this I'm hearing about this Sherrod Boren kid? Also, who/what the heck is this Garland Sachse? Never heard of them.....how are they blowing teams out?
Thanx!

09-08-2005, 09:13 PM
Lakeview's doing pretty well... They are always one or two games away from playoffs, and, if they pulled themselves together, they'd be able to make it.
Garland Sachse is the newest school in the district (2nd year of varsity play).
They're good for a new school, but don't offer much in season play. They are playing Molina and Frisco, as well as some other teams. No offense to those schools, but they don't have the best football team. I belive the only district game they came close to winning was Naaman, and I believe they lost 24-12. Garland's 2nd and 3rd string played them, and won 56-14. So if that gives you some idea.....

Sachse also beat up on my alma mater the lowly Bryan Adams Cougars. Another of the weak Dallas teams. The DISD is getting stronger and not just at Carter. Kimball Linc and Woodrow are all pretty good but WW drops back after Sergio Kindle graduates.

I don't think it was a fluke. Our defense needs work. Our best defense last night was the offense keeping their offense off the field for 35 minutes. They rolled up over 3 hundred yards of offense in 13 minutes. We didn't stop Desoto very well either. But as to your other point....you betcha, Sloan is a manchild! We have a pretty good Oline, but he ran over alot of people in the defensive backfield last night all by himself.....very impressive. And good job by the backup QB Hunter, he kept his cool and made enough plays to keep them honest when they tried to stack the box too much.

I obviously know we should have played better against Desoto and our D against Ennis could have been better, but lets have some semblance of being a little happy about what we accomplished considering 3 defensive starters (D-Brown, Murphy, Devin) and (backup FS) were out against a high powered passing team. Yes they did rack up 300 yards but some of our younger guys (Oliver Mitchell on the first INT) came up huge. I think you have to be pleased with the defensive effort with the lack of depth and it being an away game.
Desoto always plays Garland tough, and we had 1 fumble (none lost) after a miserable game against Desoto. I just meant that had it not been for the fumbles I think we could have won and maybe the fumbles and sloppy play (although we had several penalties) was a fluke.
We had a very good bounce-back performance with injuries. Several players bounced back including Johnny Wooten and our younger DBs. Sloan's performance is obvious but nonetheless it has to be mentioned again. The strength and heart he displays is immense and he rarely gets stopped on first contact no matter who the defender.

So ture...Sloan must have had about 200 yards after contact...it was amazing...He's the definition of Power back. DeSoto was a fluke in a sense, but I think we were big headed after the shutout of Plano East...I've talked to a couple football players and they say there will not be another DeSoto...look for clean games (sloppiness wise) from the Owls for the rest of the year.
WE WILL WIN!

One of the best games of the young season! Garland's smashmouth style outdoes the fun and gun on their own turf. The highlights of this one are great, including Ennis Coach Sam Harrell "miked up" and Donta Sloan's bruising touchdown run are included at http://www.insidehighschoolfootball.com

D Sloan is raw and nobody in Garlands district really has a chance to stop him. its not easy to bring him down. Now that the coaches have seen what he can do when they give him carries i predict we will see a lot more of sloan.
