Put my Midland High School Bulldogs in the TOP 25..They surprise everybody every year and never get any repect for it, they have a great RB in Baron Batch headed for Texas Tech and a pretty good QB in Charles Roseberry and not to mention a pretty punch you in the mouth defense to go along with that, coach Criag Yenzer has done a wondeful job turning around that ball club and i strongly believe everybody will be hearing about Midland High when the playoffs start in a few months..so why wait put those boys in your Top 25, they will not let you down like those Midland Lee Rebels do you ever year..sick em dawgs !!! :D

We're definitely keeping an eye on the Bulldogs...they are in our Top 35. They've opened with a couple impressive wins, but we're waiting to see how they do against schools not named 'Coronado'. ;)

True but the nice thing for the Bulldogs is that the first Coronado team used the spread and passed most of the game and we gave up 13 points in the first quarter. The defense made the necessary adjustments and gave up just around 100 yards of total offense the rest of the game. The second Coronado team was a power running team and were a big team. Gave up 6 points in the first quarter and then shut them out the rest of the way. Our offense is averaging over 40 points a game. I know its against a Lubbock team and a EP team but we are blowing out the teams we are supposed to beat. I don't think we are top 25 picks just yet but we are on the right track. We scrimmaged Euless Trinity and Dallas Carter and held our own pretty well so I am optomistic about our season.

Honestly, I am very surprised to still see Judson at #9. I don't much care for rankings, but after losing, I figured they would lose some spots. Judson hasn't proved they are a great team yet, so I really don't see them as a top 10 team yet. But I guess you guys are seeing them as getting better, so 9 is just a start.

I remember that '02 State Championship game against Midland. That game was SO close, I was very surprised to see a team hang with Judson for that long. I don't know how they are this year, but if they are anywhere near as good as they were in 02, they will be in the top 25 in no time. But don't worry if your not, because its always funner to come out of nowhere to win it all. I remember my first year playing baseball for the Kirby LL Majors, I made it on the Redsocks. All we heard on opening day was how we were the worst team, and how we would barely win any games. Well, at the end of the season we were 17-1, and made it 2 rounds into the city tournament where we lost in the 11th inning. (LL games only goto 6, so 11 was a LOT). The next year we went 16-2.

Midland High deserves to be in the top 25 when they start playing teams with winning records, and they actually win. Lubbock Coronado is 0-2 and looked horrible in both losses and then the dogs play El Paso Coronado. I mean get real, its El Paso. Any team East of El Paso should win when they play a team from El Paso.

As I recall Midland High looked good in the preseason last year and got hammered by both Abilene and Lee once district started.

Lee might be 0-2 but at least they weren't afraid to play teams with winning records. I would love to see Midland High start a season playing the #1 and #8 teams in the state of Texas in their first two games, but it will never happen. Yenzer pumps his kids up by beating down on inferior competition and then gets clobbered in district.

You get respect when you earn it, and Midland High still has a ways to go till they get there.

What a load of crap. Lee didin't just get beat by the #1 and #8 teams in the state, they got stomped. Trinity called off the dogs in the second half or they might have scored 80 or better. I remember last season Lee lost in the first round of the playoffs while we went three deep. We don't need your respect. We were picked to win our games and we won by big margins, just like we were supposed to do. Yenzer has done a Hell of a job at MHS whether you like it or not. If I were you I would be more concerned with getting that 1st victory.

So, what's it tell you when Midland High losses to Lee and Abilene by over 40 points each and then gets three deep in the playoffs? The teams they played in the first two rounds sucked. It wasn't until the third round that they had a decent opponent and what happened....They Lost! How embarrassing to think that you lose to the top two teams in your district by over 40 points each and you still think you're good. Only at Midland High.

Keep dreaming.

I'm pulling for the Dawgs. However, I think my Eagles may have a little something to say about that district championship. Good luck to all district 3-5A. It should be a good race.

P.S. Don't look past OHS (they're still my darkhorse).

I could be more impressed with MHS atm, particularly in the 1st half of the game. They have the potential to be incredible....if they can pull it together in the 1st half.

If they do indeed pull this off, I see them winning a close game against AHS and going deep in the playoffs.

And no matter what happens, Midland will beat Lee on "the day".

GO DAWGS!

Did I read somewhere that Lubbock Monterrey beat Midland 28-24 or something like that? Is that for real?

Yes, they did lose to Monterey.

Every year Midland High goes through the same hype, as evidenced by the title of this thread. Their fans look at MHS's record and wonder why they don't get any respect from around the state when they are undefeated before district starts. Apparently, they are the only ones who don't seem to notice that the teams they are playing and winning against haven't beaten anyone themselves. Then they get to district and get blown away. The only difference is this year they lost to a very average Monterey team before district and got a dose of reality. Hopefully this will open their eyes to what it takes to get respect.

A teams record alone won't get you respect, you have to actually play good teams and win. Until the coaches at MHS schedule a little tougher competition they won't get the respect their fans are looking for or deserve.

You should!

The only real difference is Tech is making a killing for every home game they play. The administration see's dollar signs for every home game the can schedule. Blame that on the Alumni. The Alumni want more Tech home games, so Tech goes out a pays who ever they can find to come to Lubbock.

As an Alumni I hate who we play but love the revenue it brings the school.

The last time I checked it doesn't work that way in High School.

I still think Albilene is still the top dog in this district. They ran SLC close last season in the play-offs. I do not see much from the Midland schools. Permian look as if they are on their way back, but lost to Amarillo last week. Odessa High is 4-0 and much improved. My play-off picks are : Abiliene - Abilene Cooper - Odessa High.
