The Waco area (as covered by the paper) had 5 teams make it to title games this year:
4A D1 Alamo Heights 40 Copperas Cove 28
4A D2 LaMarque 34 Waco 14
3A D1 Texarkana Liberty-Eylau 35 Robinson 34
2A Cisco vs. Mart 2 P.M. at Justin Northwest
1A D2 Windthorst vs. Chilton 3 P.M. at Stephenville
Big Blue gets to give you the thumb for being out of here around 6 tomorrow!:p

Oh, yeah. It's time to update which area is doing the best:
17 teams left after Friday:
DFW- 3 (SLC, Cedar Hill, Celina)
Wichita Falls- 1 champ (Vernon Northside) plus 1 (Windthorst)= 2
Abilene- 1 champ (Richland Springs) plus 1 (Cisco)= 2
Houston- 1 champ (LaMarque) plus 1 (Cy Falls)= 2
Waco- 2 (Mart, Chilton)
Austin- 2 (Westlake, Liberty Hill)
Nacogdoches- 1 champ (Alto)
Texarkana- 1 champ (Liberty-Eylau)
Longview- 1 champ (Tatum)
San Antonio- 1 champ (Alamo Heights)

I would personally lump Texarkana, Longview, and Nacogdoches areas together as East Texas and say that they have 3 state champions

The subject of the thread is that Waco is going to go 0-5 in title games. I haven't made any bones all year about wanting the local teams to do well. BTW, I was talking about Windthorst 2 years ago before I ever left San Antonio. I don't make any bones about the fact that I want the Wichita Falls area to win more titles than the rest of the state.
You know I don't like Austin and I have a lot to dislike about San Antonio, and I gripe about East Texas south of I-20, and I don't ever talk about rooting for Houston, so it's nor that odd that I'm happiest when West Texas teams win. I might be in the Air Force now, but I'll tell you right now that I'm probably going to park my derriere somewhere around here when I retire. The wandering ways of Lonny will end one of these days and I'm where it's going to end.

That's too wide of an area. By that definition, West Texas is looking at:
Richland Springs
Vernon Northside
Windthorst- maybe
Cisco- maybe
I live closer to Richland Springs than Texarkana is from Alto.
You can't say Dallas is the best by my definition (Using papers) because they have a bunch more schools to choose from and I don't think Celina will win. You might win 3 titles out of 111 teams. I'm looking at 2 out of 42.

Not to mention that Carroll and Cedar Hill had to play 2 other DFW teams in the semis to get where they are.

You haven't seen football in this state until you dip into the lower classifications. 4 titles and 5 title games last year made you the champs in 2005. You haven't won 2006 yet.
