Watching the Miami-Florida State game last night just made me realize how far Texas college football has to go. Can't 1 damn team from Texas win a national title in this lifetime?

I've been a fan of both Miami and Florida State's programs, but that was one of the worst displays of football I've ever seen last night. Neither team really deserved a win in that one. I was almost hoping Miami would kick a field goal to tie it at the end, and then have the refs call it just so neither team could leave the stadium saying they were 1-0.
Scary bad football. I've seen defensive struggles that were very well executed games, but the Miami-FSU game last night was so bad it became funny.

I liked FSU's defense with 9 sacks. Miami's future looks brighter their QB is worlds better than Florida St's. The planets all aligned right for FSU because they should have lost that game.

FYI, the most successful (by far IMO) of the Big 3 programs in Florida, Miami, gets 40%+ of its recruits from out-of-state. It has only won one title using a Florida QB. And if you do your research, you'll see that the bulk of their award-winning players (Heisman, Outland etc) are non-Floridians. Their first title was won with an Ohio boy under center and an All-American from Ohio captaining the defense.

OK and all the speed they have is home grown. That's why every major college in the country goes to Florida to recruit. Unlike the guy in the other post who thinks the south dominates I don't think so but you must admit that Florida has a wealth of football talent especially speed players and the Florida schools have done well recruiting and keeping their players in state.

If I were Bowden, Xavier Lee would have been my QB in the 2nd Quarter, that Weatherford kid looked as bad as the Woodz QB's looked against Katy!! At Least Lee can run! He didn't get enough playing time either!

Oh, I agree about the speed. But if your team doesn't have a solid QB, then sayonara. I would argue that other states (including Texas) are better balanced in the types of recruits they produce.
Miami's award-winning players tend to NOT be from Florida. Of their titles, just ONE has been accomplished with a Florida boy calling the plays (I believe the others being Ohio, Minnesota, NY and Cali?). Heck, one or two of their biggest name linemen in recent years have been CANADIANS.
I have experienced Florida posters bragging about Miami as a "Florida" school, yet the numbers and facts show they are more highly dependent on out-of-state talent than just about any other major program from a state of any size.
Now just about all schools recruit out of state (OSU has at least two prominent Texans and a big-name Floridian) but over 40% of the roster? Jeez.

Ok the QB was not from Florida but every other skill position player was from Florida. Look at the number of #1 draft picks from the 3 florida schools in the last 10 years and you will see that over 90% of those are from Florida. Take florida off the map and the south is non-existant. That's how much talent comes from Florida.

Here we go...which is better?...Florida colleges or Texas colleges? Everyone sees the obvious winner...Florida, but why they are better does not have anything to do with better, overall, programs!
Not long ago, in the 80's and 90's, Baylor, Houston, Texas A&M, Texas, SMU, TCU, and Texas Tech were all ranked in the top 25, if not the top 10, respectively.
Here's a huge question....
Name 7, MAJOR, Division-1 programs in Florida, that have done that? Hell, name 7, let alone 9 - like Texas, Division-1 programs in Florida, period?
You can't!!!!
Think about it, you've got 9 major programs in Texas compared to just 3 in Florida. If you notice the Florida colleges' rosters you'll see most of the high school super-star athletes from Florida, for one, and secondly you'll see 90% of their rosters are from Florida, period.
What would Texas A&M have been like if QB Drew Brees and RB LaDainian Tomlinson had been on it's roster?
If QB Drew Tate and RB Adrian Peterson would have signed with TCU?
If QB Rhett Bomar and WR Malcom Kelly would of attended Texas Tech?
If QB Chase Daniel and WR Carlyle Holiday would have signed with U of Houston?
If Tim Brown, The Detmer boys, Eric Flowers, Allen Rossum...just to name a few...would of played Texas collegiate ball?...
The fact that we have 9 major schools and Florida has 3, to divide their state super-kids, is a big issue. Texas has more depth than any other Collegiate State...if we keep all of our kids home, God only knows what the results can be!!!

Both teams looked terrible. Both defenses looked good, but you have to credit alot of that to the fact that both offenses looked very bad. Greg Olsen, Tyrone Moss, and Lorenzo Booker looked like the only bright spots on both offenses. Once Kyle Wright from Florida got in a groove he looked good, he looks like he will be a player. But when your oline is giving up 9 sacks, theres not much you can do.

Wright did look good but he plays for University of Miami not Florida :D

40% or more of Miami's roster in NON-Florida. Including the vast majority of their QBs, historically. Most of their award-winning players are non-Florida. The stroy changes somewhat with Florida and FSU, but Miami is heavily dependent on other states and our neighbors to the north.

Ok Texas has 3 cities with over a million people and what 10 of the top 50 largest cities in the country so numerically you should produce more recruits IE more people equals more recruits but as in boxing pound for pound who is the best and when it comes to quality I will take Florida. Look at the NFL for proof of that.

I was impressed with both schools' defenses, but, beyond that forget these two. I think Florida Gators will own the state from here on out. Can you imagine being recruited by Urban Meyer, Larry Coker and Bobby Bowden? - that really isn't even fair. Bowden has trouble stringing two coherent sentences together, Coker is about as old, and Meyer is simply the best coach in America.
Neither Miami nor FSU finishes in the top 10.

The Florida kids you speak of attend the BIG 3 (Florida State, Miami, Florida)...they're products of a "systematic progress", in Florida, that has flourished over the years. Texas still hasn't caught on...and until they "really" desire to win and produce the majority of the NFL standouts, they'll continue to lose...and wonder where it all went wrong!
Oh..and Houston has more NFL players, from it's city, than any other city in the U.S. :D

Considering Urban Meyer has not won anything yet I'll reserve that best Coach in America title. Meyer is still playing with someone elses players lets see how he recruits and wins in the SEC. This is not the Mountain West.

A couple of good years at Utah and Meyer is the best coach in America...
Pete Carroll is the best coach in America hands down....

The thing I was most impressed with about that game was what the commentators said before kickoff. He said between these 2 schools 7 national titles are represented. And then you throw in Florida with their titles and they just blow the state of Texas away. No comp. All the UT fans that i meet and see at games and what not act like UT has the track records of these Florida schools when in reality they are not even close. Win a championship first and then you can run with the big dogs.

Football Junkie...you're not getting it...
1) Florida doesn't have the best athletes, they just have a systematic process that develops their kids through high school and into a FLORIDA BIG 3 school. (Miami, Florida State, Florida.)
2) Nearly 65% of the top recuits/blue chippers out of Texas sign to play at schools out of Texas. (Adrian Peterson, Drew Tate, Drew Brees etc...)
3) Florida has only the BIG 3 to disperse their super-kids...while Texas has 9 major schools. A HUGE difference!!
4) The coaching is better, because the coaches at the BIG 3 allow their kids to adapt to positions that favor them then the team, not vice versa. Plus they HARD-SELL their Florida kids to attend school in Florida.
It doesn't have anything to do with the athletes...it's the systematic process. Look at Odessa Permian...they bombard their pop warners with the notion and responsibility of someday playing for the Permian, and being the best. A systematic process of the same kids playing with each other throughout childhood into teen years. By the time they're in High School they are polished athletes, ready and knowledgable to compete on the highest level.
And when you have 150 super-kids, from your state, every year, of whom you disperse 95 of them to play at your BIG 3 schools, compared to Texas having 250 of them and dispersing only 150 of them to play at 9 schools you see the difference...on the field.
The talent level is about the same in Florida and Texas...it just depend on what positions we're talking about...Texas has better QB's, Offensive Lineman and interior defensive lineman...and Florida has better skill position athletes...db, wr, rb's. It's pretty simple!!

OK and if you read my post in this section I said Florida produces skill position players I also said Texas produces more because they should... larger population means more to chose from. Their is no question they recruit their own state better but they can also go into any other state and take the top prospect back to Florida. As far as the sytemic thing and Florida high school football programs being better than Texas I don't know but I will agree that once you get to the collegiate level Florida is better. Or at least it has been. It is that difference that keeps kids in Florida and Texas kids leave. With 9 schools in Texas to chose from although you could narrow that down to UT,A@M, Texas Tech as far as big time football kind of evens out. ODDS favor Texas schools because those 3 should have the pick of the litter of those 250 you stated but kids still leave the state. When Texas corrects that then they will win like Florida has.
