View Full Version : Which Cy Falls team shows up in S.A. ?

Will it be the great football team that beat Katy and Cy Fair, or will team Vonage phone it in like they did against Jersey Village?

I expect number 2 to be there no matter what - but based on past history I suspect more than a few of his teammates have already taken the rest of the year off.

Guys, if all you intend to do is wave at MacArthur as they run by - save yourselves and the rest of region III the embarrassment - take a team vote and forfeit the game.

CyFalls played one bad game since district started and it happened to be a more or less meaningless game when they had several starters sidelined and the other team still had to kick a 50 yard FG to beat them.
Since the playoffs started they have outplayed each of their opponents except Stratford. Stratford played evenly because CyFalls is vulnerable in the secondary and Stratford has a college QB... The Jeckyll and Hyde comments aren't really fair towards this team.

Cy Falls has done quite well this playoff season - not sure where the "which team is showing up" comes from. I sense that some would like to see the Eagles lose but they don't care. They aren't playing for those people. They are playing for themselves, their coaches, their parents, their friends, their fans and for Cypress Falls High School and the whole Cy Fair ISD and 17-5a. They have improved continuously through the playoffs and are now playing at the top of their game as they should be. Sure, last week was an emotional high and an emotionally draining game but when you have Raffield up there at the helm, you feel pretty good about the team getting back into focus for the next game. You see, Katy was a big game, a big step and a big 800 lb gorilla off their collective backs but it isn't the ultimate PRIZE. They don't want to go beat Katy and then get stepped all over the next week...and they won't.

And, Mom......hate to disagree with you again, but, I do not think these kids are in it for us, the school, the district or anything other than themselves. They want this because of what it means to them! That means so much more!

You can disagree - and you are right - and that's why I put them absolutely first in that list because if it were me out there in the pile or running down that sideline, you can bet it would be about me and my teammates FIRST AND FOREMOST because they deserve it. But when they win, they do like to share that feeling with the rest of us and for that they are very much appreciated!! It's just such a great, fun team this year and I'm so glad to even be able to witness this season.

The big concern for Cy Falls would be a letdown after attaining one of their season long goals. It is a senior based team and should be able to realize that it was just one step. I'm pulling for them to win two games in SA (one at a time).

Sorry to disappoint you, Tut. Falls' goal was not to beat Katy this year.....It is to win state.....same as last year. Last year they got hung up on regional and fell short. This year they made it through regionals and are looking to make it past the next level, semi's. They do not care who it is this week, they will battle to reach their ultimate goal........state!

CFB2, You might want to read posts more carefully, he was supporting your team and your responded by shooting back a sarcastic remark. I hear a lot from you guys about the lousy posts and attitudes from Katy fans, but I made several very civil posts showing respect for your team and heard no response from any of you. Try to remember, what you feed grows, what you starve dies. It might actually do you more good to engage those who are trying to show you support than to engage the slash and burners. I, for one, would be a lot more likely to want to make a 6+ hour round trip to support a team that seemed to appreciate my support. Just my POV.

This is a foolish subject. Cy-Falls will come to play Saturday, no matter what, and MacArthur knows it so they will come out fighting as well. It's going to be a battle and one of these well deserving teams is going to crack and slip up against the other. One is going to make the key defensive stops, force the turnovers, and make plays in crunch time.

Which team it is - seeing as how both have done that in the playoffs - is yet to be seen.

I am sorry that the intent does not come across in my writtings. No disrespect to Tut or Katy. I did pick up on his support and greatly appreciate it. I was just trying to make the distinction between this team just wanting to beat Katy as their ultimate goal this year or winning state. It was a huge win for Falls against Katy and I respect what they were able to do on Saturday. However, what I am seeing in these kids is a desire for something even bigger.

And I for one understand and agree with Tigerhat. I have seen teams that come out flat the next week after a huge win (ala Langham for a half). If we fans can help the boys stay focused on the intensity they exhibited last week in the Katy game and GROW that intesity for this week's game, then maybe we have contributed in some small way. I am sure the kids are working in that direction. I know the coaches are. I have been very impressed with the program through this playoff run. The kids just need to stay focused and come out with the intensity once again. (OA...told you I was big on that word!).

Very true Mac - it will be a pretty even matchup. That first post on this thread just comes off as someone who just realized what happened Saturday and they are upset about it and decided to take it out on our team. OR, they were reading what others said about the Eagles which also wasn't true...that you never know which team will show up. Earlier we had some injuries to key personnel and with that came gameplan changes and player shifts and such and we didn't always look consistent game to game. The good thing is, it helped create depth to the team by those who came in to take over for the injured players and it created even more opportunity for playcalling. We look better now and more confident on both sides of the ball. Defense is stepping it up big time and getting better each time and the offense - they are just clicking along as one and it is working pretty well.

This just looks more like a challenge being thrown down rather than a slam on Falls. There have been big challeges every week. This is just one more!

Take on the challenge, Eagles! Prove him wrong!

BTW Drake, no game is meaningless. That's what losers say. Don't think you are, just you shouldn't think that way!!Typical rhetoric... You've got a great football program so you have the inside track on how to talk and act like a winner? Who are you that you get to decide who's a winner and who's a loser? Especially based on one statement. Like I said, typical...

The kids from Cy Falls need to win for themselves and their coaches, period. Don't get me wrong, the fan support is needed, appreciated and has made for an excellent atmosphere for these guys, but not one guy out there is trying to win to make people on a message board or in the stands ultimately happy. A win by them for their team, for each other means that a celebration will get to happen for the fans. You celebrate as a community, but you play for your team. Noone of us has been on the field and in the locker room with these guys for four years. They owe nothing to anyone but the guys they line up next to and the coaches they play for. I want to celebrate as much as anyone for the next few weeks because as a former player who never got to play in the football playoffs, I want it even more for these kids. I know how hard Raffield has worked. He was a young buck running back coach when we started and to see him get these guys to where they are is very awesome for lack of a better word. He truly has embodied what it means to work your butt off for your players and your assistant coaches. If Cy Falls wins...celebrate, hug a player's neck, hug the person next to your's neck, but understand that these players ultimately lay their intestinal fortitude on the line for each other. As a player, there would be nothing that would disappoint you more than to disappoint your teammate. Some of what is lost is that these guys have put their entire being into being a part of the bigger picture. They embody a team attitude and it is showing on the field. Everyone else on here can rant and rave and make accusations and predictions about the teams and the game itself, but you have two good teams playing as a team and everything will be played out on the field. Then you'll have more to talk about come next Sunday

I think Falls is experienced enough as a team to know what needs to be done.

This is their third season in a row to make at least the state quarterfinals, so the seniors on this team are no stranger to playoff football. The Katy game was a breakthrough, but I believe they are seasoned enough to continue bringing strong efforts until this thing is settled.

Great post Raider and, as a former player, you would know more than the rest of us what is going on in their minds and locker rooms. I've only been in one locker room before a game - Spring Branch v. Memorial 1984 and it was a doozy but doesn't reflect the Eagles locker room at all.

What I said earlier about them playing for everyone was written in my excitement and not really meant as I wrote it - I know enough to know that they play for each other and as a team - like none I've ever seen before at Falls. This is for THEM - they have worked hard to get here and hopefully go one game further. We get to reap the benefit of a celebration if they win but we have done nothing on that field. In the end though, when they win, it involves all of us as a community...brings us together and it begins a tradition that hopefully will go on for a long time.

Raider'01
12-12-2006, 09:02 AM
Correct in all points. The community's celebration is a byproduct of these kids' efforts for the past three and four years. Like I said, the atmosphere created each game for these guys by the fans is a great motivator and is needed without a doubt. The biggest deal, still, is being in the huddle and looking around and knowing that everyone is pulling on the same rope. That goes back to a saying from one of the coaches from the original Cy Falls staff, Coach Rick Cobia, and I think it applies to every team aspect in any team situation, not just sports. For now, though, lets hope the message of it echoes through the minds of the Cy Falls players on Saturday.

As a former player (seasons over), I can say that it does go through the players minds that they are playing for more than just eachother. Though the team and the coaches is what they are mostly playing for, they know that the whole community will be behind the team, and there are so many groups and fans that go into making a high school football game. Players really appreciate fans, esp those like CyFallsMom, and they do not play for themselves. They understand that they are playing for the team, the school, and the community.

Thanks! That makes me feel better for what I had written. I was feeling bad about it for a while there after I read some of the comments - I know these boys work hard and become like brothers to one another and play for each other - and that's as it should be. Just glad to be witness to it. I do think that these boys definitely appreciate it when the fans come out and support them and not just sit on their hands. I saw such a difference in the crowd this past weekend - hope we can come close to that with the trip to S.A.

Btw, who were the boys doing the cheering through the little megaphones while running up and down the front aisle -does anyone know? They did quite a job of rousing that crowd - more than the cheerleaders even - and they were awesome. I was yelling with them the whole time! I sure hope they are going to S.A.!!!! Put them on the field with the cheerleaders - enough of the dancing, let's get the crowd going!! Cheering sure has changed over the years.

We gave them their megaphones! They were yelling SO loud that I felt badly for them. I finally walked up and gave them to them. When they returned the megaphones I said "we'll see you in San Antonio, right?" And they agreed!

just saw this on another board from a Katy fan:

It would be pretty easy for Cy-Falls to let up on SA Mac after the big win against us and all. I honestly hope Mac takes it to them good.

Almost as interesting as the first post in this thread - intriguing thoughts coming from the west!!

I'm thinking that some of them must think that the Eagles were only out to beat Katy and their season is now complete?? Guess again!! I think it couldn't be further from the truth with this team. I know all Katy fans don't feel that way - or they don't post it anyway - but it's sad that a local fan wouldn't want a local team to do well and represent Houston in a big way, no matter which team is representing.

Lets not go off on that one post now, look at the posters name... to me it appears to be a student most likely a senior.
We have seen these let downs in the past, most are hoping it doesn't happen.
You know as well as the rest of us that there will always be fans out there that want you to fall since you knocked us out thats just the nature of competition.

Putting this post in the same sentence with the one that started this thread is... well it is what it is, but I am not sold on Tigerhat being a Katy fan, even has houston as his location not Katy.. Either way probably not much of a true Katy fan anyhow. You of all people know that.

Cedar Hill game will be interesting....I'm gonna take CH in that one.

Southlake is playing too well...but we'll see. If they take care of their normal business they'll be on the road to yet another state championship....very impressive. "

I think it is like Pride said, someone feeling their pain. They'll get over it. At least they said it over on the Katy board. I know it's a public board, but it feels like home to many Katy fans, and what better place than home to air your feelings with your "family". The better to get over them. At least they didn't come over here and throw them in your face on your thread. If you don't want to see them processing their pain and anger (normal emotions after a loss), maybe you should not go into their "living room" looking for "locker room material". Some may not like me saying it, but that's how I feel Mom.

It doesn't matter which team shows up. Cy Falls will still win. There is a bigger margin for error against this Mac team. CY Falls can bring their B game and still win, unfortunately.
