Did anyone else at the Allen game notice the "moment of reflection"?

I was walking back to my seat when the "moment" turn into a prayer.

Personally, I loved it!

Some people where I was standing asked aloud if the ACLU was going to hear about this.

ANY comments or feelings?

I heard the announcement and said to my friends how bout we reflect by having a prayer and then, the announcer said the prayer.

I thought it was great.

The ACLU is so focused on keeping religion out of Government, maybe we all need to keep government out of our religion.

When it was over I thought to myself, "Now there is something that our kids need to hear more of."

The cheer of the crowd seem to say a lot about how the majority felt too.

We have it at every College Park home game. And yes, just about everybody on the CP side treats it as a moment of prayer. Does anybody have a problem with this? I certainly don't.

I don't have a problem prayers and I don't understand why people complain about it in Football games. I am quarter of Jewish and I've heard some Jews got real mad about that in and went to Government to change the law or something, can't remember. I think it happened in California. Seriously, if anyone have a problem with that then they need to get out of this country because its basically freedom and your not supposed to change everything. America started out as Freedom and then other religions come here especially Muslim changed it. I hate that! I understand how their religion is but this Country is supposed to be a Christian Religion.

Red,

I think that shows a lot about who you are.

To 'allow' a nation to be what it 'is' . . . . even if you 'aren't' shows great maturity. I wish everyone else showed that much comfortability with who they 'are'.

We have a moment of reflection before every district game. When I was in high school, we did a full fledged prayer - the world was a nicer place back then too...even with Disco going full tilt:)

My hubby still has his powder blue polyester leisure suit hanging in our closet. We've been married 26 years! For some reason he won't let me get rid of it!

The ACLU is so focused on keeping religion out of Government, maybe we all need to keep government out of our religion.

"On every question of construction, carry ourselves back to the
time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit
manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning
may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform
to the probable one in which it was passed." --Thomas Jefferson

"The true key for the construction of everything doubtful in a law,
is the intention of the law givers. This is most safely gathered
from the words, but may be sought also in extraneous circumstances,
provided they do not contradict the express words of the law."
--Thomas Jefferson

Makes sense to me. The meaning of the constitution should be based on what the authors intended and not on what grammatical tricks the ACLU/God hating crowd can invent against the intent.

"The Constitution on which our Union rests, shall be administered by me [as President/Jefferson] according to the safe and honest meaning contemplated by the plain understanding of the people of the United States at the time of its adoption--a meaning to be found in the explanations of those who advocated, not those who opposed it, and who opposed it merely lest the construction should be applied which they denounced as possible." --Thomas Jefferson: Reply to Address, 1801. ME 10:248

My gosh people. Can we not at least mimic the actions/prayers/practices/laws of THE FREAKIN MEN THAT WROTE THE CONSTITUTION?????

Simply stand back and look at the lives of the men that adopted/signed the constitution and see what they did relative to religion and government.
You'll find these very same dude a week after ratifying the constitution praying in public buildings. Appropriating funds for government buildings that are inscribed with scripture and have Christian statues/paintings. They earmarked public funds for bibles for schools. Paid Christian Chaplains and on and on.

Yes yes, one can find plenty of references by Jefferson and others seemingly to seperate church and state(semantics). But one things for sure. You cant hide the tangible actual actions made by the constitutional writers(debates).

Again. If the guy that freakin signed the constitution the very next week led a prayer at a government function what the he!! does that tell you?

Off soap box now.

AllenDad,
If there is a prayer at the Allen vs. SL game next week I know God will hear it. He always show's up when SL plays.:D

Sorry..couldn't resist.

On a serious note...I love it too and long for a "revival" of values and decency among the next generation.

in the SCL locker room we had a prayer, said aloud, before every game. we must however be tolorant of others. this tolorance does not enable them to prevent another group (christian players) from participating in a religouse act (prayer) before the ball game. if a player oes not feel the need to pray before the game so be-it it sould not be held against him.

You will all be for prayer in public schools until Mohammed, the new principal, tells your little ones to remember to bring a prayer rug for the Mecca prayers tomorrow. Then, like some Katy residents, you'll be raising hell about those Muslims, and demanding an end to prayer in public schools.

But the truth is, there is no rule against prayer in public schools, it's just that, thank God and ACLU, the school administration can't tell your kids when, where or how to pray. Little Johnny and Susie can say a prayer anytime they want to and usually do just before the unprepared for test.

LoneStar,

Man, that was so good I actually smiled and my kids asked why I was smiling at the computer!

I thought you were going to make a reference to the "hole in the roof".

As I remember the 'good book', there is a little something about "Michael SLAYING THE DRAGON" ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I sure hope we have a "Michael" on the team!:D

Take care,

Allendad

Ha! I'm sure having a "Michael" actually on the team is against some UIL rule somewhere. If you do, I'm sure he was heavily recruited and you know what kind of eyebrow raising that's gonna start.:p Anywho...all in good fun. I look forward to seeing all you great Eagle fan's on saturday.

How true. Its a double edged sword for sure. How ashamed it is.
I was always for school vouchers for private schools until I realized that if the government gave funds to private schools then they would then dictate that they also teach about ala/buda/scientology/etc. Hmm.... double sucky.

I myself do not have an admiration for the ACLU. Its a radical left wing outfit who's motif isn't rooted in anything having to do with the perfecting of virtues. Its only goal is pushing the envelope of personal freedoms at the expense of family and the greater good.

Which founding father is it that said, " your country is screwed when the peoples demand for civil rights out ways their sense of civic duty".
