What is it with their defense?

It seems like it is almost non existant at times.

I wish them the best of luck but damn, I am afraid Katy will run all over yall!

I think that anyone facing SM right now would have trouble with that offense. Giving up 13 to Austin High and 17 to Warren were season lows for them (2nd lowest for Warren). Memorial.....was just tough to stop Stephens. Tonight Mac went up against a tough team that runs the wing T to perfection and it's hard to stop when you don't play against it. Mac's defense faught all night and never gave up and when they were needed the most they came through. When the game was on the line.......the whole team came through.
Ask SV, Marshall and Harlingen South how hard it is to stop them.

There will be no easy games and it gets harder each week. Sometimes teams just matchup well against another team and we'll have to see who we are going to play and how they matchup. One thing is for sure. This team won't quit.

I heard otherwise.

People have told me SM is a team that just lucks out often...

A disciplined group of LB's is the key to stopping SM's offense. From what I saw tonight, neither team plays defense.

Mac has no defense.

I think it'll cost them in the semi's though.

PICK: CY FALLS

I don't know if you can say a team that is in the STATE SEMI-FINALS has no defense. Just like vs Reagan, Churchill, Madison, Austin, Warren, Memorial and San Marcos, when the D needed to make a stop, it did.

G0 MAC.

Whether you want to admit it or not Mac doesnt have a great defense. I was there last night so I have a right to an opinion b/c I've seen them. I don't think you were there last night. They gave up 34 to a valley team last week and now 43 to SM. All the other fans around me on the Mac side were thinking the same thing. I'll be rooting for Mac next week but I hope the defense plays a lot better.

Good Luck Mac!

I was there last night. I never said Mac had a great defense. But if you notice when Mac needed to stop SM in the 4th quarter and in OT, they did.

My only question is how SM ended up 5-5 during the regular season. Their offense was incredible.

Seguins defense pretty much man handled that SM offense. Ah, how I miss the days when Seguin was out to prove something and not a bunch of over arrogant fools.

Great defense? No but I haven't seen a great defense this year. SM put 35 on SV and I don't think SV has no defense. When you watch, coach or play football over the years you can see what teams really have if you look at it with a clear eye. Mac's defense is good but in some matchups or against strong executing offenses they have trouble stopping them just like any other team. Mac's defense will fight until the last second is off the clock and this is what makes them special. Week in and week out I have seen them play and they amaze me over and over again. This team has done great things and they never quit. Brahmas.......I am proud to be your fan!

Last I knew who ever scores more points win, and thats what Mac is doing. San Marcos was just like Reagan, a 4th place finisher, that came on like a train. There`s a BUNCH, and i mean a bunch of teams with alot better defenses than Mac, that have turned in their pads, but Mac is still winning! Keep on winning, just 2 more wins...;)

Just like San Antonio Reagan it's not about thier defense. They both win and have won with offense period. Look at all the 26-5A playoff teams and only SV had a strong defense IMO. Most of those teams including Madison win with offense, offense and more offense. I'm not trying to disrepect any of them. I think Mac plays hard and has made some defensive plays when they've had to, but the bottom line is they have to outscore their opponents to win like most of the 26-5A teams this year. That is an obvious liability the further they go in the playoffs.

I've seen Mac play several times this year and they are fun to watch. I hope they can pull off the upset this week and make the big show, but they will have to play their best ball of the season and yes their defense will have to step up big time !! I hope they do !!

The slot T is difficult to defend if you have never faced it.SM punted twice and i think Mac only punted one time. Both D's had a hard time getting stops. The real difference in the game was Mac converting 5 out of 7 4th down conversions. They made the plays when they had to. Was a fun game to watch even though we came out on the short end

Yeah, Madison won with offense, offense and offense.

Look what it got them.

No State Titles. And the term "Choke-avericks".

I'm not going to compare Mac to the "Doomsday" or "Monsters of the Midway" defenses, but the past few weeks scores have been deceiving. If you look at Mac's playoff run:

AUSTIN- They averaged 32 ppg and had probably the fastest receiving core in the state. Mac held them to 13 points. They ran the spread.

WARREN- They averaged 34 ppg. Mac held them to 17 points and scored the game winning TD on defense. They ran the spread.

McALLEN MEMORIAL- Trap game for Mac. I have the upmost respect for Memorial and they were a great TEAM. But after a 4 hour bus ride, etc.,they were due a letdown. Also Bradley Stephens is a beast and they ran a pro style offense, which Mac was not used to. No excuses, but the D did score two TD's for the victory.

SAN MARCOS- Mac had to change their entire defense in three days in order to prepare for the slot T, which they had never seen before. They had their CB's down in a three point stance playing DE. They were clearly confused by the slot T, but when they had to make the stops, they did.

From what I know about Cy Falls, they run the spread offense, just like Austin High and all the other teams that Mac played in the regular season. This will be the first time in about a month that they will be able to play their defense that has been designed for them and have been playing in since 7th grade.

With that said, I know Cy Falls will have a great team. Unless they completely overhaul their offense and switch to the slot T in one week, Mac should at least be playing an offensive scheme they are familiar with.

Should be a fun game for fans to watch.

Yeah, but you also have to look at their regular season number, too. They gave up huge numbers to SV, Church, and Madison. I agree with you in that Mac's defense, so far, has gotten the job done just when they had to, but I'm also not going to say they have a "good" defense.

Just some numbers to throw out there.

Mac's average score per game: 32.6
Mac's average score against per game: 23.3

Cy Falls average score per game: 32.1
Cy Falls average score against per game: 22.0

It should also be noted that Mac went 2-1 in those three games - overcoming tremendous offenses by outscoring them and then making key plays on the defensive side of the ball to secure the win.

Mac may not play like a brick wall on every play, but it is without question that their defense has kept them alive in the playoffs.

I would imagine that Cy Falls will be incredibly athletic, but I haven't seen them play this year. Mac has faced similar offenses this year. I would imagine they will be very similar to Madison athletically. It should be a wild game. I hope Mac brings their "A" game and brings home another great victory !!

Well certainly - but let's not forget that Mac's defense held explosive Austin High scoreless in the first half, let's not forget that a defensive touchdown proved to be the game winner against Warren, let's not forget that two defensive touchdowns and some critical 3-and-outs ended Memorial's great season, and let's not forget that Mac's D held San Marcos on fourth down TWICE to complete an overtime comeback.

MacArthur needs to bring their A game this weekend. The offense that crushed Churchill and the defense that stifled Taft needs to become a single game effort.
