I see some of you think JT does not stand a chance against quality opponets. Lets not forget about their storied history, and even in the declining years they almost beat Longview(21-20) and Lufkin (15-7). Let me be the first to say JT will be the third place team if they do not win ditrict. John Tyler is showing flashes of there old selves and if there on your schedule do not expect them to be the neighbor hood chump anymore. Now im not going to say Longview or Lee wont run all over them, but JT does have that CUJO magic with a few tricks letf up their sleeve.

I agree, JT is coming back. They played most of the 12-5A teams to good games last year (within a TD) and could have made the playoffs last year. This year, I think they'll make the playoffs. Saying they'll win district is stretching it. I say give em a few years and they'll be back in contention, especially if LV or Lee start to decline.
And about the Longhorns, I don't call a 60-3 win over ULL anything special. I hope they do good against OSU, though. This is one time I'll cheer for Texas.

You named the 2 only scores that they even came close to Lufkin and Longview lately. Lufkin has owned JT in a major way for quite some time. They did not win one single game last year in district so i am not reading to crown them 5a state champs sorry!! JT has not been the same since 2000. I am glad they have won a few but lets face reality a little bit. Talk to me after you guys play Longview, Lee and Mesquite. I really do hope you are back but i seriously doubt it. A win vs a top 4a team and an average 5a team means nada.

Im sorry but I just dont see how the Cujo of John Tyler is already back. They were freakin 2-1 last season and everyone started claiming OO LOOK JT IS BACK.
Those two John Tyler games againist Longview and Lufkin were in 2003 coming off big time games.
Longview had just gotten drilled by Lufkin 35-21 (that score still gets on my nerves) in Lufkin and was already badly hurt. Lets not forget this is the game Quincy got hurt in and tore his ACL with Freeman coming in to play. A blocked extra point wins the Game for the Lobos on Green Out 2003, 21-20.
Lufkin had just come off a very emotional 21-14 Loss to Tyler Lee in Tyler. And I know they were injured as Longview and Tyler Lee had put a beatin on them for the past two games.
John Tyler has a long way to go to get back to where they used to be but thye are definately on the right track. But before worrying about making the playoffs, Lets just have them win their first district game since 2001. Losing 19 straight district games is pretty bad. Considering their last win in District was a 34-10 win over a 5-5 Marshall team in 2001.
I cant even remember the last time they won back to back district games, something that would have to happen if they wanted to make the playoffs.
Ok had to research it but it was in 2000. The first two games in 12-5A action. 3-7 Longview with a 27-14 win then 3-7 Nacogdoches with a 33-0 win. So we'll see but I just dont think John Tyler is bac yet. They're on the right path but a long way to go.

What do you mean come back and post when my team beats View or Lee. I am a Lufkin fan hell I played for the Pack last season. I am just giving credit were it is do. JT has steped it up a notch they knocked off what many peaople considered to be the best team in 4A and now just whiped PAM. Lufkin fans lets not forget when we were JT's dormat they have been running us way longer then we have them. If coach Wilson was still at JT they would be just as competetive as they have been in the past.
What do you mean ULL was a big test for my horns(LOL) and oh yeah TCU with what was an upset in the minds of many or does loosing 5 all american offensive lineman do that to Peterson just a thought. Didn't suprise me.

I wouldn't count JT out. Weren't all of their games within 10 points against the Mesquite teams and Rockwall? Sounds to me like most of them could have gone the other way, and had they done so, it would be JT in the playoffs instead of Mesquite.
LoboFan07

No they werent.
North Mesquite drilled them 34-0. But the worst was Mesquite Horn, 41-2.
Rockwall they only lost 21-14 and Mesquite they only lost 21-13.
Im not saying JT is out of a playoff spot but I just dont see them doing it this year.

So far, Mesquite High looks good for that third spot, and they will have a great team the next two years. Mesquite will compete for the district title very soon. I wish I could say the same for us. It's been a tough season already. :o
I think JT is improving, but we'll know a lot more when district starts.

Don't underestimate Mesquite. They have been down a little the past two years (even though they rolled three rounds deep in the playoffs), but they are a tough, winning program with storied history, and they are loaded with talent. JT may well be on the resurgence, but they will still have to play a salty Mesquite squad who is starting to believe in themselves...

We have North Mesquite on Friday. I don't know anything about them really, except last year they ran out of the shot gun quite a lot. I know they lost their best player when he got arrested due to an armed roberry.

I am not saying this would happen but with all of the ridiculous smack talk coming out of a SOME Longview fans it kinda makes me want to see it like this.
1.Tyler Lee
2.John Tyler
3. Longview
Probably not going to happen but anything is possible. I have seen stranger things happen that most people wouldn't think were possible.

Yea I agree with you, anything can possible happen but I am so not sure who will win Tyler or Longview for first because Tyler Lee has alot of big chances to beat Longview so I am not sure. If you look at Tyler vs Euless Trinity than that could give you more options to say.

So how does beating a top 4a team and an averag PAM team make JT legit again??? They are one of the best programs of all time but these 2 wins mean nada. I simply said they have not proven anything yet and talk to me after district is over. Simple as that. I hope they are back but i am not a believer yet sorry. They were horrible last year and they almost beat 4a power Texarkana last year and look what did after woopee!! LOL Here is some recent scores when Lufkin has played JT. By the way the overall series between these 2 is very even and JT has a slight edge.
2003 Lufkin 44 JT 14
2003 Lufkin 15 JT 7
2002 Lufkin 38 JT 0
2002 Lufkin 15 JT 0
2001 Lufkin 32 JT 8
2000 Lufkin 31 JT 21 JT went to the 5a div2 finals
1999 Lufkin 17 JT 7
1998 Lufkin 3 JT 7
1997 Lufkin 24 JT 14
Lufkin has won7 in a row and 8 of 9 vs JT and the overall score in that same time span is Lufkin 219 JT 88
I am sorry if i am not a believer in JT yet. They have a long way to go to prove they are back. I really do hope they are back but i just do not see it happening this quickly. The talent is not near what is has been due to the players they lose with the minority rule in Tyler.
By the way, I know you are not talking to me when you are talking Texas vs Lousiana Lafayette?? I never said nada about that?? Just making sure you are not smoking that stuff that makes you jittery and your pupils big. ;)

What happened in '98? Two great defenses plus a drop-off in the usual Panther offense? That low score stands out compared to the other scores.

I saw a news special on JT last night and there is alot of excitement there. I am still skeptical of them but I know they won't be a pushover like they have been the past few years. Who knows, they might make some noise in district. They might not get the third playoff spot but I bet they have some say in who does get it.

Once again, let me set someone straight on this issue. I am tired of it constantly coming up. Last year Lee only had TWO players on their roster from JT bc of the minority rule. I dont think it is making that big of a difference. If the trends continue then the rule will be obsilete cuz they will no longer be the minority.

relraiderfan,
The stories I read here made it sound like more than just 2. But lets say it was just 2 guys. What happened at JT that put them in crapper for the last few years?? Wilson leaving?? Or was there more to it. Lee has a great program and I guess the timing of it (REL's rise & JT's fall) made it look worse than maybe it was. Best of luck to you guys and congrats on winning your first time in. If you don't your team gets hammered on this board and compared to the Buffalo Bills.

In football there are two (2) varsity roster players that are at Lee from M&M transfer! If that's a big effect, then it is! The biggest change has been the old coach vs. the new coach.

I'll echo the comments by "raidercheerdad"....the M&M issue is
pretty much a non factor.
He's ALSO correct about the 2 players on last year's REL team
that were the only one's at REL playing football.
FWIW, this is the BEST John Tyler team in many years...they
are easily the LARGEST team between the Longview-Lee-JT
trifecta.
When I say LARGEST I'm simply stating the obvious....they have
an OL that goes as follows....LT (6'7"315), LG (6'2"265), C (6'0" 220)
RG (6'3" 295),RT (6'5"325) and TE (6'3"245)....that's an avg of 6'3" 278
across the front.
They have a speedy TB and a pretty talented QB.
Defensively....they have speed to burn all over the field...plus they'll
knock your head off....very physical.
I've had the good fortune in getting to watch the three(Longview,Lee
and JT) at least once so far this season. I'll just say that JT will be a
challenge.
IF they (JT) have an "achilles heal" thus far it would be the penalty bug.
Expect the three East Texas entrants to be representing 12-5A come
playoff time...imo.

I agree with you hornified. i think JT can play with and beat any of metroplex schools in our district....I think it will be fun to watch that third spot. You are also right about them challenging Lee and Lview. I remember two years ago when Lview barely escaped them 21-20. They will be more of a problem for Lee than Lview though.
