I love this time of year...the powers that be around the state are all puffed up with pride in the potential of their guys...the pretenders are already starting to fall by the wayside....As usual, we probably won't know the real quality teams until 2 rounds deep into the playoffs, but it looks like there are some talented teams in all corners of the state...until then...let the BS flow!.... :D

Maybe, but it seems to be Katy got their butts handed to them in the first game 2 yrs ago, and still managed to beat SLC in the championship. The games count alot more in November and December, some teams will fix alot of things by then that they are finding out about now..........some won't.

We still have work on our running game but Katy plays their best at season's end. This year we're off to a faster start than usual. It's really too early for any braggin' but I agree it's fun to BS and is great that the season is finally underway.

At least half the teams were eliminated from being contenders after Week Zero. At least 25% more was eliminated last week. Somebody might come out of the pack, but they've already shown something in the last 2 weeks. Some teams have already shown they're going to be in contention for a title.

The only team who seems eliminated from the playoffs in our district is Grand Prairie, every other team has a shot. It should be the most competitive district.

I'd like to comment on the post of BHS06.. Its not a good idea to give teams bulletin board material for motivation. One may believe that a team has no chance to make the playoffs, however, there is a reason they play the game each week. Any team may have the game of their lives and surprise a team that is suppose to beat them easily if they are overlooked. If your statment has any validation, then Grand Prairies' playoff in their eyes, is the game they play that week. If they can upset a team or two, it could effect the overall output for the district. Wouldn't you agree?

I understand that, however, do you honestly even think that thre is the slightest chance that Grand Prairie can finish in the top 3 in a tough District 6-5A? We finished 7th place last year and still beat them 39-0. Even though Dallas Skyline is good, Grand Prairie was shut down by them.

But then again, in basically the same district in 2001(only difference was Duncanville was in the district instead of Coppell) we were picked to finish dead last after a terrible 2000 season, and we ended up finishing 3rd to take the last playoff spot. Then again, that district wasn't very strong as all the Irving schools sucked and Trinity had a down year and Duncanville was its usual butt kicking self.

I didn't say I believed GP would finish in a playoff position within the very tough district. Every week, each team better bring their A game to have a chance to survive. As I mentioned though, with the position GP is in, they play the role of spoiler and that makes them dangerous to whomever they play each week.

After spewing a bit yesterday morning - I will certainly back off any over-the-top comments about Lufkin for a few weeks. Klein Forest in the first district game will be LP's first real test - they are much improved this year. A real shame TLee pulled out on us for next week - no offense to PAM - but they got shelled by John TYler Friday night.

So many things happen between Sept 1. to Nov.10 and then through the playoffs.

1. Young players stepping up with experience.
2. Key injuries. (ie). Longview already this season.
3. Moving players around to different positions that help the team better.

I think right now in no certain order:

Katy, North Shore, Westfield, Lufkin, Longview, Tyler Lee, SLC, Abilene, Cop Cove, SV, Judson have to be considered early favorites. Alot of the usual suspects. :D

there are some teams that just dont have a chance to do anything, for example Fort Worth Paschal, I mean when was the last time they won a game against any other 5A school? GP doesnt seem to stand a chance in our District..

who is hurt at Longview?

Couple of their defensive starters got hurt in the West Monroe game and are probably out for the year.

I would add John Tyler...yes they beat Pa (no account) Memorial, but they also beat then number two ranked in 4A Texas High. texas high incase no one knows use to be 5A, so they was a major win and right now I would say the way 12-5A is playing a team could win that division with 2 losses or more. Quality undefeated wins by the Lobos, Red raiders and the Mighty Lions, along with the quality play and tough losses the rest oft he teams in the division have encountered means that 12-5A could hold be the home to the Dallas metro representative for the state title game, in both divisions.

Abilene does have a good shot this year. Sofare it looks like they havn't lost a step sence last season. I woulden't be surprised if they met South Lake again in the playoffs. And no hard fealings to SC people but we came real close to ending yalls season last year on a 12-1 record like yall did us but, my strong opinion is that nothing can stop us from finishing it, and winning state. But still no hard feelings couse it's only my opinion.

Eagle52, I would worry about you if you didn't have confidence in your team......

That was a great game last year and the early indications are that you all are formible again this year. Lots of work ahead for both teams of course, but a week 13 matchup with AHS again this year would not be a big surprise to me either. Good luck this season and maybe we'll catch you on down the road....... ;)

May be a bit early for the JT bandwagon. They narrowly lost to Texas High and Kilgore last year and still went winless in district. Improved? Yes. Contender? No.

Also i think Texas High dropped to 4A at least 15 years ago.
