I notice that NS did not have names on their home jerseys. And last week they did not have them on their road jerseys.

What Happened? - why no names on jerseys.

I don't think names should be on jerseys to begin with...as Coach Fran said "your playing for the name on the front, not on the back"

Red - it's not about what you think, it's about - they use to have them - now they don't - why? Is there a rule on this - or what?

not a rule.....some coaches just dont like it.....when I coached we told the kids that had to EARN it....everything from the decals on the helmets..to the names on the jerseys.

Maybe after last years meltdown at Spring Coach Aymond decided they didn't deserve them after playing so badly againt Westfield. So maybe once he feels they have earned the right to have them once again they will. And until 00' they had never had their names on their jersey's

Coppell has the TEAM me shirts as well...For the first time in two years Coppell has the names on the Jerseys, Im not sure what the idea behind it is, but apprently they will be taken off if they lost to SLC...

Westlake has non b/c of the team thing...

When you put on that jersey everyone becomes equal, and the only thing that matters is what the scoreboard says in the end.

Cause heaven forbid they have to look down at the roster or wait three seconds for the announcer to say their name.....haha, i'm just playin'. Some people like names on the back, I personally don't.

We had names put on our jerseys last season and went 3-7, not happening this year.

I've never seen a name on a jersey miss a tackle, as I have never seen a name not on a jersey make one. Players and talent and effort make plays, not names on jerseys. Everything else is locker room jibberish and sounds good in sound bites.

Katy's had names on their jerseys ever since I've been watching them ('94).
I don't care if they have names on jerseys or not. Katy has done well with names on jerseys but I really don't think it has affected how they perform on the field. If your school doesn't have them don't add them. I'm a traditionalist so, stick with whatever your team's tradition has been.

GoOwl - I agree with you. It's just comes down to the fans in the stands readily identifying the players on the field.

The concept of "there is no I in team" and "you play for the name on front not on the back" is all good for locker room Pep talks. But weather there is or isn't a name on the back will not make or miss a tackle, fumble a ball, throw an interception, etc.

I started this thread because NS always had their names on their jerseys and now they don't. Was it a punishment thing for losing to Westfield? They had them for the 03 championship game.

Or it could be something quite simple. It's too expensive to have them sewn on.

I personally don't think the names should be there either. Garland Lakevierw had the TEAM me t shirts when my daughter went there late 90's.

Like someone said on here earlier (too lazy to go back and look) but if it's a tradition, then go for it, if it's not, then don't. But I personally like the idea of playing for the team as opposed to playing for yourself.
