The game was set of Cox Communications but the people that were going to be taping it cant get anything working because of the Hurricane so It's doubtful as far as I've heard.

It's going to be a good game. Defense Defense Defense in this one. But gotta go with my Lobos.

I love it....the Lobos aren't scared to take on the #1 team in the state of LA. This will be a good game and from all indications looks to be a hard fought battle. It's WM's first real game so they may come out rusty. They have a new QB who is a top recruit...big, fast, and can throw. WM fans say they are a 2nd half team. If that is true then they might not be able to overcome the first half deficit. WM's Oline avgs. 220 lbs and they are a option team. Lviews front 6 on D are bigger, faster, and very aggressive.

On the other hand they say WM has a very good D this year. They have big lineman and very good LBs. So if they are able to slow our run game down we will be forced to use our underrated pass game.


I'll take Lview in a close one....the big three(Freeman, Ivory, Mcgee) will be to much.

Colerain lost to Ohio #1 team St.Xavier (7-0) and Colerain tied Ohio #4 Moeller in a scrimmage (0-0). We'll see if they play superior defense in Ohio or if Texas offensives are just heck of alot better then what they see in Ohio.

My bet is Texas offensive's are alot better then what they see in Ohio. If Tyler Lee puts more then 14 or 17 pts on Colerain then the whole " Ohio plays better high school defense" is out , out, out, out the door.

I would have to see film of the game to really be able to tell if the calls were bad or legit. In a real game it is hard for anybody to see all 22 players at the same time. As much as Longview talks about all the bad calls I would think that the coaches would just not want to take their teams into that kind of environment year after year. Maybe the coaches go back and look at the film and realize some or most of the calls are legit and most of the fans just look for any kind of excuse as to why they don't score more points etc. Bad calls are just part of the game but if it is that common when you go to LA they why keep going?

I agree they spoke of one play when West Monroe completed a pass play and the receiver got up off the ground and spiked the ball into the ground and they say the officials was about hand their hands on the flag. Just back from the game.

Man, is all Im going to say. This game obviously could've been a larger margin than it was. From us dropping passes, to the refs (not even going to go there), to the refs freakin moving the ball fowards for WM from where they said he was to begin with.

I dont know how that field goal as time ran out did not go in, cause from our angle is was CLEAR that it went in.

We shouldn't of even had to kick that field goal as we got a freakin penalty on the one yard line.

It was a disgracing on the officating side. But the Lobos were much more impressive than they were last week. Loved it and cant wait to beat Lake Highlands. Way to go Lobos!

Havent heard anything about A. Guinn or Tony Johnson except I know Guinn was on crutches and Johnson was in a sling.

Ha ha...that didnt take long. I was just messing with you guys about the schedule. Ike was a consistent Top 10 program as recently as 2003 and when Lufkin began playing them in 2000 they were coming off a loss to Midland Lee in the finals. They have obviously dropped off. I totally agree about Nac. Waste of time for both programs. Ive called for this game to end for years but because its "the oldest high school football rivalry" supposedly apparently we will have to continue it. Kinda fun killing them every year after all the incidents of vandalism they have done over the years. Played Katy in the opener in '02 and '03 but as every Tiger fan will tell you "Katy starts off slow" I would love to see Longview and Lee every year in preseason. I know we would win a few... and lose a few but that would keep the East Texas rivalries alive and better prepare us for district.

Sorry to hear about that. We were without two defensive starters against Plano East - two of our best in LB Tim Sharp and DT Stephen Thomas. I'm not sure how serious either is. We have been playing terrible so far as a team. :o

I've seen enough football in person. The whole point is 90% of the calls were going against Longview. Everytime Longview dealt the knockout blow on West Monroe there was penality (usually holding). Something about those "well timed" holding calls.

See I dont buy it because "you can call holding on 95% of the plays if your looking for it." Those Louisiana "refs" sure were looking for it alot against Longview and just "NEVER" saw it againt West Monroe & you can tell me that they werent "Holding" just as much as Longview.

That game could of been "over" in the first half.... and should of ended up like 45-0. The Louisiana "refs" kept West Monroe in the game.

PS. If you're going to call "holding" be fair and call it both ways because there is holding on every play !!

Longview was the originator of making " The scrimmages" important last year, we are just tired of hearing you make statements about them.

The 1st string players usually dont play but about 2 QT total. The coaches arent showing the whole offense, its not even Week Zero, it doesnt count for squat.

I cant get over how anyone can start jumping up and down and talking alot of smack over a "Dang" scrimmage game.

Football teams in mid August arent even the same teams in October much less December.

Scrimmages are SCRRIIMMAAGGESS and they dont mean squat.. Gee.

Longview has a great team this year and I'm sure before its all said and done Lufkin is going to be their usuall stud powerful selfs.

Other times it was on the opposite side of the field and would not have kept the ball carrier from scoring anyway but a penalty is a penalty. I don't go crying about the refs every time we get a holding call. I bet some of you are the kind of people that if and when you have kids and one of them does something wrong you will be like "No....my little Johnny couldn't have done that." So sad. There is so many variables that go into scrimmages that make them almost not really a football game.

Now the whole "REF" stuff. I do believe Longview got "homered" last night in Louisiana. You cant ever get PO'ed about mental mistakes like jumping offsides and ect. But, the "holding call" is very very subjective for refs. You can call "holding" on every play if you really want to and our looking for it. Just seems like the Louisiana "Ref crew" decided they wanted to see it against Longview alot more then West Monroe. I think Longview had about 3/1 holding calls plus they came on game "Back-breaking" plays when Longview was closing the door. I just dont buy that at all.

Plus, the personal foul call on the Longview player. I really want to see that on film because I'm sure the West Monroe players were doing the same stuff and it never got called. That's what bothers me...

I was at the Midland Lee vs West Monroe game in 2000 @ West Monroe and I'm telling you that Midland Lee got "HOMERED" bigtime that night with about 6 bigtime "homer calls".

Hey was it your round last year, and the year before and four years before that? Don't think so. Honestly, when all is said and done, nobody really cares about the series, or 9 in a row or a scrimmage. What I care about is this season, real games, real victories and a chance to play for a state title. We weren't mad last year when we got "beat" in the scrimmage against you all. There is so many variables that go into scrimmages that make them almost not really a football game.

Now the whole "REF" stuff. I do believe Longview got "homered" last night in Louisiana. You cant ever get PO'ed about mental mistakes like jumping offsides and ect. But, the "holding call" is very very subjective for refs. You can call "holding" on every play if you really want to and our looking for it. Just seems like the Louisiana "Ref crew" decided they wanted to see it against Longview alot more then West Monroe. I think Longview had about 3/1 holding calls plus they came on game "Back-breaking" plays when Longview was closing the door. I just dont buy that at all.

Plus, the personal foul call on the Longview player. I really want to see that on film because I'm sure the West Monroe players were doing the same stuff and it never got called. That's what bothers me...

I was at the Midland Lee vs West Monroe game in 2000 @ West Monroe and I'm telling you that Midland Lee got "HOMERED" bigtime that night with about 6 bigtime "homer calls".

I think this intra-State games need to have neutral Ref-crews.
So is it a fact that all the refs were from LA? I am just curious because I would think that if it has been a problem that Longview has had every time they go there I would think the Longview coaches would insist on have refs from both states or from a neutral state to call the game. I am not denying that there were some bad calls I am just wondering why if it is so bad Longview keeps going there.

Okay, I as a Lobo fan realize that scrimmages dont mean crap so me or the team. However is does take some of the psychological advantage off that Lufkin may have.

PackAttack - Lufkin has not "whipped" us 9 times. They have beaten us 9 times. The only game that I can think of that ya'll beat us badly was the 35-21 game in whcih we scored 14 points in the final minutes. Most of the games have been close and have been won in the 4th quater.

I really do wish Lufkin the best of luck this year, and I hope that we are both able to make it to the 3rd round healthy so that we can play a good game.

Longview overcame many things last night. Whether it was injuries, the refs (which btw I dont get because we were the home team yet we were playing under LA rules?), or just mistakes.

The past few seasons, had the Lobos been faced with what our guys had to put up last night they would've shut down or it would've gone into overtime but thats the difference.

We shut out the #1 Class 5A Louisiana Team and basically handled them, and I bet you that it will be their only loss of the season.

We still have a ways to go but I really feel more confident about the season especially after last night when it easily could've been 49-0 had it not been for some of the LA rules that are legal in Texas.

I tried not to get into this debate! Now, I'm opening my mouth. I'm a died hard Lp fan and proud to be in the class of 77 from Lufkin. I remember those games where all we wanted to do was to beat Longview and John Tyler. :o Now, times have changed but the repect of those schools are still there. Yes, I will be the first to say that I love it beating Longview 9 times in a row. I got enough repect for the Lobos to say they will beat us on any given night. ;) I know that it's on your minds all the time, just like it was on mine in '75,'76,'77. I hope that this stuff can be resolved, cause I will always be cheering for the Lobos until they play the Pack .

On a side note, each town was some crazy fans, but that does not make the whole town like them. :confused: I got relatives in Longview, and yes I do rub it in, but the truth of the matter is I repect that program. I know that if you keep winning games, and we meet. Who ever wins, got a lot of bragging rights of that win.

I for 1, like to see any team that Lp beats to do well. Then people will not say that we played cream puffs. :mad: Take for instance Katy, we was the only team to beat them when they won the state the other year. that makes me proud to say that, and yes I love it when you guys beat the hell out of La. Evangel won't be nationally ranked after yesterday's debacle. Come back to Texas and play a real 5A team will ya? Longview threw for 82 yds. yesterday. Lufkin does that with one QB tied behind their back. LP's running game will be fine, and apparently it doesn't matter how many yds. the D gives up to LV on the ground because LP will win anyway (ref. game last year). You said your statement is true, and mine is false. Somehow you see Lufkin as a one dimensional team. You better check some stats my green friend. Lufkin is much more balanced on offense than LV. A team that can throw has the advantage when they are behind. LP can....LV can't (ref. game last year).

Hey LPanther, we didn't need to throw it. Lufkin doesn't run the same kind of offense we do. I dont care if you had 20 yard passing or 200, we still won and that is the object of the game. Lufkin runs more passing plays and we rush more often. Difference in styles, its not that we suck at passing.

It was James Stephens and Brandon Templeton. As a offensive scout teamer, both of them were hard hitters and swarmed to the football. Robert was on JV as a junior and led that team. The next year, I was on the scout team again and played against Robert who was good then as well.

Hey LPanther, we didn't need to throw it. Lufkin doesn't run the same kind of offense we do. I dont care if you had 20 yard passing or 200, we still won and that is the object of the game. Lufkin runs more passing plays and we rush more often. Difference in styles, its not that we suck at passing.

Lobo209, I fully understand the offense of both teams is different. LV will probably never throw for big yardage, because they don't have to. The strength of their team is running the ball, and as long as they win it doesn't matter if the passing yards are zero. Longview can throw, but that is not their comfort zone. They probably have fewer pass plays and much less complexity in their passing game than a team like SLC or Lufkin, which doesn't favor them if they fall behind late in a game. Their running game may be good enough to carry them to a state title (we'll see). For Rclisle41 to make the statement that LP is one deminsional is a joke. I could make a much stronger case for LV being one deminsional.

Okay, I as a Lobo fan realize that scrimmages dont mean crap so me or the team. However is does take some of the psychological advantage off that Lufkin may have.

PackAttack - Lufkin has not "whipped" us 9 times. They have beaten us 9 times. The only game that I can think of that ya'll beat us badly was the 35-21 game in whcih we scored 14 points in the final minutes. Most of the games have been close and have been won in the 4th quater.

I really do wish Lufkin the best of luck this year, and I hope that we are both able to make it to the 3rd round healthy so that we can play a good game.

I agree...I would love to play y'all in non-district every year. There is a great rivalry in Oklahoma b/t some Tulsa teams that play in the second week and almost every year meet again for the State Championship...huge rivalry.

I am really tired of dealing with all of this. Things have been taken out of context so much in this thread and the truth twisted around, I don't think some of the Lobo fans know the truth.

The truth is the Lobo fans started this scrimmage issue last year and we can't get them to stop talking about it. They have now turned the tables and said that the Lufkin fans are making it an issue. The truth is Lufkin fans knew the scrimmages were meaningless last year. You guys wore your game unis and played the National Anthem at our scrimmage @ Longview this year.

Please don't con me and say Lufkin had anything to do with that.

The truth about desperation, I don't know how desperate the Lobos are, but I know they have been talking on this board about winning the state championship since last March or April. I know they hang their greatest hope of accomplishing that feat on these 2005 Lobos, because the truth is, this team may be their last hope to achieve a championship for 2 or 3 years and they know that truth. This is for a good reason, because this years Lobo team is stacked with senior talent and experience. They thought they had the solution to beat Southlake last year and Lufkin stepped on their parade again.

Close games or not, winning 9 games in a row over the Lobos is no fluke, we are a good program down here in Lufkin. Playing teams like Longview has helped make us a better program because the Lobos are one of our fiercest competitors year in and year out, you guys have a great program in Longview. I get very nervous when we play you guys, you have my respect everytime we play.

The truth about Evangel, since 2001 Evangel has been sliding to the south, They are no where near the program they were in 1999 when they won the mythical National championship or the powerhouse team they had in 2001. Why has Evangel been Longview's benchmark for success?, when Lufkin has won 9 in a row from you and you haven't gotten past the 3rd round in Texas football. Seems like Lufkin should be you benchmark for success, but that is not going to happen because of your lack of true respect for our program. Your analogy that Lufkin has only won because we had Lane holds as much water as Lufkin saying Longview only wins because they have Vondrell McGee.

The truth is, Longview can't handle the truth or the facts and have created their own little galss house in Longview where everything is always green and perfect. This may well be the Lobos year, they certainly have the talent to go all the way. The problem with Longview is this group of Lobos know nothing about what it take to get past the third round, that 1997 group is long gone. You need to show respect for the programs that have climbed that mountain lately, like Southlake, Katy, Tyler Lee, Spring Westfiled, Smithson Valley and surprise, Lufkin.

I am tired of Lobo guys talking negative about Lufkin, because after 9 wins in a row what else do we need to prove to you. Myround1 talks about hate from Lufkin, not hadly, that stuff is him alone. I could see a little dislike, if Lufkin had the 9 losses in a row to Longview, but the truth is, that is not the way it is......quit playing psychologist, we know the truth.

I am not going to respond to another Lobo post about Lufkin or Southlake or anyone else that has paid their dues in post season play. I also urge the Lufkin faithful to turn a deaf ear to the rhetoric and departure from the truth. FAV, I have given the Lobos that credit. Make no mistake about it, I am not like some of my fellow Pack brothers. I don't support the Lobo program at all, I don't care whether they win or lose, former East Texas allince or not. I don't pull for them to lose, I just don't care. I still remember the Lobos from the early 70's and had a healthy dislike for them then and it all had to do with attitude. They never let you forget who they were and that you were inferior to them in everyway..totally arrogant attitudes.

I applaude Coach King for continuing the Lobo winning tradition, his transition to head coach has gone well with Coach Collins in the background.

All the rheotoric from them is amazing to read, almost dillusional. Like I have already said and will re-emphasize again, this senior ladened Lobo team has an honest shot of going deep into the playoffs and the possibility to play for a championship. I won't try to blurr that truth, but we need to play out this season first and see what happens. As far as next year ??????, that is like throwing dust in the wind right now.

I just have a problem with a fan base that talks so much smack and doesn't have the recent track record to back it. You see I can respect talk like that from someone like Tyler Lee, SouthLake, Katy, North Shore, Smithson Valley or even John Tyler because they have been deeper in the playoffs and played the money games more recently than Longview.

Even the Lufkin Panthers didn't have a leg to stand on before we won State in 2001, sure we had a good playoff runs since 1998, but it has taken a State Championship in 2001 and two semi-final appearences ( 2002 and 2004) in the last 4 years to get our pedigree and recognition around the state as a contender. Longview had it for a while in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, when Lufkin didn't.

Now to schedule strength...Lufkin used to host Katy, then they no longer wanted to come to Lufkin, IKE has been a perennial powerhouse but definitely way down this year, PA Memorial filled for Tyler Lee who pulled out; however, PAM has been strong in the past. Nac...wel that one has been pretty weak, but a long time rival for LP. I hear nac may be a stronger this year?

14-5a looks to be down a little this year, but the season is still very young.

C'mon guys, we all played the 4-team round-robin for a couple of years, and it was a nightmare! That's the same year when LP played Katy, IKE, Marshall were all very worthy opponents. LV and Lee played the Waco's etc...

I was not going sit there and get a 3rd degree sunburn on top of my bald melon just to watch ECA go completely down in flames. The real suck thing was that I couldnt find the Longview/WM game on the shreveport radio anywhere. I didnt even know who won until about midnite on the tv recap. The s'port times just prettymuch said Longview beat WM 21-0. I was really glad y'all beat them as I was getting pretty darn tired of all the "lip" from the WM folks.


As for the ECA loss.. I don't really know how to respond to that.. haha.. that was a really crappy showing for ECA. I expected them to lose, but not like that. *ICK* :eek:

Hahahahaha, now I'm choking with laughter.. Heck, if it wasnt for some very questionable calls the game would of been like 42-0. Longview could of had the game Sealed at halftime but the "refs" kept keeping WM around.

Seemed like everytime Longview slammed that door shut their was a nice "yellow hanky" thrown on the ground for "holding" on Longview. It was almost getting comical.

I dont like WM either. I havent really like them since I went to the Midland Lee vs WM game back in 2000. I was there. I'm not taking anything away from WM. They had a very solid team. But, some of the stunts during the game were insane and several of the "ref" calls on Midland Lee were also very questionable.

From that day on I wasnt a Coach Shows fan. Then when Coach Shows announced right after the game that WM wasnt going to be making the return trip to Midland ( I really knew he was classless).

But, that radio announcer "field announcer" is a freaking joke. He has zero character and pretty much a sorry loser. He kind of made a statement at the end of the game about Longview running up the score. He can made the comment that Longview just got a "Ole by the way touchdown" and they could of taken a knee.

i like your memories, Redneck--LOL...see, we do have some things in common--LOL.......Yes, yes, yes, i was there---we got SCREWED in La. once again----the MOST terrible homecooking that i have ever witnessed...i thought the ECA games were bad--man, this didn't even come close!! called back 2 TD's and stalled one of our drives inside the WM 10..gave us consecutive penalties to push us back and then we missed a field goal....i don't know about 42-0, but i know that it should have been at least 38-0. refs did all they could to keep them in the game---total blow-out and domination....that's how you dismantle one of the top teams in La....who's next?????

I really do think they have the "good ole boy" network in football as well as politics. They prefer to do things "the way they've always been done" and when somebody comes in and does it different, does it better, and does it their own way, they will do whatever they can to run that person (team) out. I would bet that if ECA had started out a "running" team, they wouldnt be hated quite so bad. And wouldnt have been hated much at all if they had been a running 1A the whole time. Mainly because there just arent many 1A running schools that are going to beat Haynesville.

Well. I guess the fine folks of Louisiana wont be happy until every out of state team flat refuses to play in Louisiana. Then, all the coaches/teams can talk about how "so and so school is scared to play us".

I really am glad I no longer reside in that state.

You know.. I dont recall West Monroe being called "one time" for holding in that Lobo game. I think the lobo's got called like 5 times for holding.

Just an update on the injuries to our starting linebackers. Accoriding to the Lview newspaper they are out indefinately. Good thing for us we have a very deep Dline and can afford to move some guys around. Tackle TJ Norris will be moved to LB and Damien Sadler will replace him on the line. TE Reese will also help fill the gap in the middle on D. Seriously if this D plays like they have for the first two games all year they will be hard to move the ball on. We stopped WM 3 or 4 times in the redzone.

Lufkin does that with one QB tied behind their back. LP's running game will be fine, and apparently it doesn't matter how many yds. the D gives up to LV on the ground because LP will win anyway (ref. game last year). You said your statement is true, and mine is false. Somehow you see Lufkin as a one dimensional team. You better check some stats my green friend. Lufkin is much more balanced on offense than LV. A team that can throw has the advantage when they are behind. LP can....LV can't (ref. game last year).

I don't know LPs stats form the IKE game but I bet y'all had twice as many pass yards as you did run. How many yards did Kibble have. He may be good,I think decent, but a D like Lview will stop him in his tracks. We have faced backs in our first two games much better than him and shut them down. I would rather have a one dimensional run game than a one dimensional pass game...b/c if your D is good then you can control the clock. That is why I say if Lview doesn't repeat its TOs from last year(and I promise you we won't) the streak will end this year IF we meet again.

Well I think we all can agree that the streak won't last forever and if Longviews D continues to play like it has been through the season I think we will win. If something doesn't change for LP I think Lview is that much better this year...especially on Offense. Add alot of experience with the devastating loss from last year, which all the players return from and know we would've won w/o the turnovers, minus J. Lane for Lp and I think we win. Just my opininion though. I'm just going off what I know right now though...things could change drastically for either team over the season.

Lufkin has had a better team and game strategy the last 9 games. Until we "walk the walk" all the "talk" in the world doesnt make us contenders. For several years, we have had a problem with living up to our potential. Maybe this is the year. I dont know. Without a QB who can feel as comfortable lining up in the shotgun and ACCURATELY throwing the ball as he does under center, everybody in the stadium will have their crosshairs on Vondrell McGee.
