Zip,

Coach Hill would be the last to make excuses but in the Tex Bowl last year SV had recievers wide open down field several times and only hit them once late in the game after overthrowing them. The crown in the field at Texas Stadium aka "The Craphole" is difficult to get used to in a single pregame warmup. Chase Daniel played more games at TS last year than at his home field. I think the crown is the reason he missed some of those receivers. No excuses though. We did lose fair and square to a great team and I hope like hades we can get another shot this year. So far so good.

sorry it was so late, 28-21, as you probably know by now. I was at the game, and did not get home until really late. I just now got up and going, had to watch TCU put a first drive whoopin on OK! Your right about last years game, SLC is used to the shaddow, and SV is not. But that cant be an excuse like you say. Home field advantage, every field has it. They have the same shaddow, and might have a slight advantage in how to use it to their advantage. I know SV practiced prior, and did some work with how it would effect them on both sides of the ball. I think it hurts the DB's as much as the QB and WR's. SLC seems to be doing good this year, and SV has some work to do, but I think it is possible that each can make it again. SLC seems to be struggling in the first couple of quarters, and that can hurt them when they face a real good team that can manage a lot of scores in the first part of the game. SV has got to wrap up, and play better D. The offense is going to be fine. They fixed some mistakes from last week, and each week (as we all know) they only get better. They beat one heck of a team last night, and there are not a whole lot of teams out there with a running game like that.

Yeah SLC has played awful in the 1st quater of both games, and has played bad throughout the whole 1st half. If there is a team with a deep secondary, and can get a running game going, then SLC could be vulnerable. It is still early, but things could get pretty interesting later in the year.

All I have seen is the score, and they have been close in the 1st half the last two weeks. Then I guess SLC begans to wear out the DB's. I am sure they will get this fixed, as SV will get their problems fixed. Its still real early and these games dont matter anyway. A couple more weeks, and both teams should have things working.

I was not referring to the shadows but the middle of the field is considerably higher than the side which is why Bailey was overthrowing his receivers. Like throwing from a pitchers mound. The impressive thing about SLC is they can play like crap for 2 quarters and then suddenly light you up for 28 points in 5 minutes. Or they can kill you underneath like Denton Ryan made them do in the playoff game.

Yea, they are getting better at that because they are playing on it more. About all the "turf, astroplay" fields have this because they do not absorb water, so it is made this way to drain. More and more are getting these. However that field is a lot worse than it needs to be. I was talking about the shadows, I completely forgot about the field and those problems. The shadows are very hard to work around, and they change as the day goes on. Maybe they will not have to play anymore games there.

The next one will be in the Alamodome unless we can find a nice wind tunnel to play in. Waco perhaps.

Our best shot is to play them in a windy mudhole. You saw what they did to us in the Alamodome. Ouch. Looking forward to seeing them play Temple this week.

Yea, but that was a bit of a mis-match that year. I dont think it will happen again at the Dome. I just really do not like Waco and the way they run things there. Yea, Temple is not going to be a cakewalk either.

The (Mild)Wildcats have a new coach from Lockhart. No idea what they are running. Probably a spread like everybody else. I do think they will win by 20 or so. Not that it will be easy. This is not you fathers Temple Wildcats. The WIldcats previous coach took the job at the new HS in the Rockwall ISD (Heath) They also hired a coach from Permian to coach Rockwall HS. Leaving Temple and Permian to come to Rockwall?? I guess they would have talked to Lombardi too had they not found out he was dead.

Pflugerville runs a spead offense and a 4-3 defense with their secondary in cover 2. They are pretty plain vanilla, at least they were last year with a new coach in place and chances are they havent installed too many new systems this year. I've heard that they run some stunts on defense and they have some athletes on offense, but dont look for any flashy gimmicks this game because you will be disappointed. SV has a pretty good game plan in place for its offense and how to tear that cover 2 apart by using beyer and fuller to work the secondary and then their runnin game to evenly balance if not accentuate the passing game. The defense will have their hands full once again, but nothing the SV defense isnt used to by now.

Texas stadium has the exaggerated crown because of the old astro turf (for drainage) and Jerry didn’t want to rip up the concrete below it. (Probably because he didn’t really plan on staying) If you run into a stadium with the new astro play (or equivalent) with a big crown, it is a similar situation. Because new stadiums with the new turf are initially putting in the proper base (sand, etc.) that allows proper draining with very, very little crown as the rain water is going down, not shedding to the side lines.

Yea I have seen some that I really like, you just have to spend the money to get it done correct. Maybe all the new ones will go ahead and do it right. So far I have seen nothing but nice ones going up. The late 90's and early 00's is where you see the big crown because it was a fairly new concept.
