According to our earlier patrons, the real question is...did L.D. Bell's Band win? LOL!

Bell 48, Bowie 41
Bell wins quarterback battle

Bowie quarterback Sherrod Harris, who accounted for nearly 500 yards total offense and five touchdowns, was magnificent in Friday night’s game against L.D. Bell.
But Blue Raiders quarterback Joe Mauro, who threw for 357 yards and totaled six touchdowns (four passing, two rushing), was just a bit better as Bell — opening its season — held off Bowie 48-41 at Maverick Stadium.
From the opening drive, Mauro and Harris went head-to-head, arm-to-arm and leg-to-leg.
Mauro, 19-of-32 passing with one interception, led the Blue Raiders to touchdowns on each of their first three drives and a 20-6 lead after the first quarter.
Mauro threw touchdown passes of 46, 25, 10 and 45 yards. Kevon Bradford caught two of the TD passes and Blake Cantu, who made five catches for 164 yards, had the other two.
Bell had 550 yards total offense. Bowie had 500.
Bell led most of the way, although the Volunteers (0-2) tied the game at 6-6 and 27-27. And after Chris Jones recovered an onside kick in the waning minutes, the Volunteers had a chance to tie the game one final time.
But K.P. Tatum intercepted Harris for the second time, at Bell’s 20-yard line with 2:31 remaining in the game.
Harris was 28-of-53 passing but was intercepted four times.
Harris’ scintillating 63-yard touchdown run tied the game at 27-27 with 4:28 left in the third quarter, but Mauro and the Blue Raiders answered with a 45-yard scoring toss to Cantu.
On Bowie’s next possession, Tatum stepped in front of a Harris pass and returned the interception 44 yards for a touchdown and a 41-27 cushion on the second-to-last play of the third quarter.
Mauro had 265 passing yards and four touchdowns at halftime.
Harris had 225 total yards and two touchdowns at the half as the Blue Raiders enjoyed a 27-20 lead at the break.

The game lasted about 5 hours! By the time the first half was over other games in the area were into the 3rd quarter!
Everytime we would get ahead, Sherrod Harris would bring his team back into the game. I think some of our players came in and thought we would blow them out like last year and it wasn't the case.
Many people were saying (homecoming king) Sherrod Harris is a one-man team but I think Bowie played like champions and whoever said they will go 0-10 is wrong. I think if they continue to play like last night they can compete for a playoff spot(seriously). Bowie has very good athletes.
I can see why Sherrod Harris is going to Texas on a scholarship. He can run throw and do it all.
Not to make excuses but offensively we were without our best reciever, English, because he missed a practice on Monday. Also, both of our defensive ends were 3rd teamers who stepped up and played.
All 4 of our touchdown passes were caught by players who have not played a varsity snap before.
We could have avoided 2 or 3 of Bowie's touchdowns, because we blew our coverage calls too many times and when it happened they would have a wide open reciever down the sideline.
Overall I think we played good and it was closer than I thought it would be. I think we will do better against North Mesquite next week because: They don't have Sherrod Harris.
