Parcells has cut Dallas kicker Mike Vanderjact and replaced him with Martin Grammatica. So, what does the "liquored up kicker" do now?

I would never have thought that the most accurate kicker in NFL history (still is) would be cut this quick for kicking poorly after signing a big contract. You just never know?

Still Is? Are you kidding me? He has missed like 10 out of the last 16 kicks or something. He is mentally screwed now.

I did not mean it in that way? What I meant was that he is still statistically the most accurate kicker in NFL history even after this bad year. That is a fact! He also holds the most fg's made in a row in NFL history. The guy used to be the best and has been stinky since the big miss vs the steelers last year in the playoffs. Looks to be a mental think like you said. Reminds me of Brad Lidge.

He's made 13 out of 18 field goals. (3 of those missed 5 were from 40 or longer.) He's hit all 33 of his 33 PAT's.
To give you an idea of his production, I'd take Adam Vinateri - any day of the week over Mike - however, Adam has been below the 80% accuracy mark 4 times in his career...while Vanderjadt has been below 80%, only twice. Adam's been above 92%, only once, while Vanderjadt's been above 92% 3 times. And as far as I know, Mike's the only current kicker to have 100% accuracy - in a season - with kicking 35, or more, field goals.
Accuracy? Vanderjadt's the best, in the NFL. (< Career wise)
His attitude totally kills his production, though. He's a serious goofball. And, he may have already passed his prime.
What's funny is? We just signed Grammatica, and he's been above 82%, only once in his career! Not sure if this is truly an upgrade. Then again, I'm sure Mike's mouth wore out his stay with the 'Boys, much like it did with the Colts. (Plus, seriously shanking that FG in the Playoffs (against Pittsburgh) last year.)
I still like the move, on releasing the mouth called Vanderjadt, but on his replacement? Whoa! We'll see.

This vj's career numbers. This was from a clipping in today's paper. He was the one of the best if not the best kickers of all time before this year. Something happened to him mentally I guess?
For his career, he's made 230-of-266. His accuracy rate -- 86.5 percent -- is still tops in league history. He's also made all but two of his 379 PATs.
Vanderjagt holds the league record for consecutive field goals with 42, set from 2002-04.

Martin Grammatica is 138 of 180, and 76.7 Accuracy. Grammatica has 2 seasons under 62% Accuracy (Worst season was 57%), yet Mike's worst season was 72%. (2nd worse was 74%, 3rd worst was 80%)

Vandershank was at 72% so far this season, right on pace with his worst season, but almost as good as Grammatica's career average. Hope this doesn't bite them in their cow arses.

I.
I wish we could have got to Vinateri b4 the Colts, and I imagine at this stage Gramatica was the best available. If there were any truly good kickers out there someone else would have snatched them up. Concerning VJ's problems this season it could be mental I suppose, but is it possible that his groin injury is still nagging. I read somewhere that his groin is a chronic problem

man you guys are good. ROTFLMAO!!!!!!
I'm sorry but this was a major bonehead move on the entire Dallas Cowboys department. First off you already paid the guy a 2.5 million signing bonus so why don't you just keep him around as a back up and bring in Gramatica also. Secondly he hasn't done that poorly this season, he is 13 of 18(which is bad for him) but better than Gramatica has done the past 2 seasons. Third he has trade value even if he has had a rough stretch...HE IS THE MOST ACCURATE KICKER IN NFL HISTORY. There are teams out there with kickers much worse than vanderjagt and trading him for anything is better than just cutting him.
Another idiotic move by Parcells.

keep him and you have to cut someone else. We don't know the whole story on why he was cut but he was barely making his extra points and cost us at least two games by missing field goals. He had a birds nest on the ground in Indy and blew it with his arrogance and mouth. He needed to go. The only bonehead move Parcels made was waiting so long to start Romo. I don't think anyone wanted vandershank so a trade was not made. JMO

No a trade wasn't made because they waited too long to decide to move him anywhere. Cut someone else...last time I checked we have 4 backup running backs...backing up the 2 starters(Julius and Marion). We don't need 6 running backs but we DO need kickers.
He didn't cost us any games missing field goals...the only one that changed a game was blocked and that was completely the o-line's fault. I don't like the idea of throwing 2.5 million dollars into a trash can just for the sake of it.

Unless I am mistaken, you are not Jerry Jones and he decides what he wants to do with his money. Missing field goals don't have to come at the end of the game to change the outcome. No one and I mean no one had confidence in him this year and he didn't seem to be trying to fix the problem. I say good riddance

Sorrry forgot to ask you for permission to give my opinion. To englighten you Vanderjagt has been perfect in fg's and PAT attempts in EVERY loss the cowboys have had this season. So he actually hasn't changed any games negatviely in ANY way whatsoever.
I doubt Parcells feels more at ease with a washed up kicker nobody wants who hasn't played in years.

If you'll look closely, he also carries a number of extra LB's and linemen along with the RB's. Those players are mostly for special teams. Parcells puts an emphasis on certain body types he likes to play on special teams, hence the extra players you may not be able to account for.
