After seeing the way Texas' D played this year, I'm not sure that's all together doomsday news for the Horns.

Akina will probably take over the full position now instead of being labeled a co-coordinator.

Most - I've heard from - has said Chizik was the reason the UT defense played as high as they have, in the past 2 seasons. Personally, I think it overall SWAGGER. And THAT swagger carried over to this season. (It just wore itself out, and Mack & Co. returned to themselves.) However, I do believe Chizik was a big part of the turn-around in the UT defense, that was labeled - by many - to be soft, just a few years ago.

I believe Chizik basically built on the foundation that Greg Robinson laid the year before as far as being more aggressive. Chizik is a good coach, but the defense has looked uninspired most of this year. Maybe this is part of the explanation.

You mean to replace him as Defensive Coordinator?
I would think that Akina would just take over all responsibilities.

They might want to get rid of that offensive cord. 2. 3 weeks ago we were lookin at a National Championship berth and now were looking at a Holiday Bowl apperance man u dont no how dissappointed i am at them. And it all started on the first drive of the K-State when they couldnt punch it in from the 2 yard line and when they do Colt gets hurt when they could have put the guy in that did great stuff for them last year and thats Henry Melton. So now for the Big 12 Championship we got 2 teams that we already beat playing each other. But well be back next year with heisman hopeful Colt McCoy.

I totally agree with you. I think it's totally 100% time to get a new OC at Texas. I would love to see Texas get an OC that is more in tune with the modern day passing game and ditching this whole "zone read" offense that Greg Davis has totally fallen in love with even though he doesnt have the players to fully carry it out. (That's the true mark of a bad OC or even Coach not knowing your players abilitites).

Next, I'm really not that all upset over Gene Chizik leaving. I think he is a good DC but I also think there is many out that are just as good. I wasnt all that happy the way the defense played this season.. Very soft and not very aggressive most of the time.

Really I would love to see a new OC at Texas. Heck, when it's all said and done I think Coach Shula (Ex-Bama HC) is a better OC than Greg Davis.

Not calling out any single poster here. But I seem to remember a time when Gene Chizik walked on water to the orange bloods. Now it is time to go and there are those that are better? The one thing I will give some of these Texas fans is they remain consistent in their ability to bash another HC. I mean leading up to the Ohio State game all we heard about was Chiziks win streak and his ability to put together a defensive game plan that was second to none.
As far as Davis goes, I too sang his praises earlier this year as was everyone else when Colt was lighting it up and Texas had the nations leading scoring offense I believe and ranked in the top 10-15 nationall in yards per game. Now once again it is time to go. I love it. Like I said, I am not singling out any individual poster I just find it funny that it losing Chizik is not a big deal to yall now, but not to long ago he was not going anywhere because there was speculation that he would replace Mack when Deloss retired and Mack became AD.

I guess the saying goes "the proof is in the pudding" and Texas just hasn't gotten it done this year. Sure, they were rebuilding after Vince but lost to teams they should have beaten (aside from Ohio State).

Dick Tomey deserves a lot of credit for instilling a fire in the Texas defense. Chizik is a vocal practice coach, but chooses to be removed from the actual game action.

I'm not sure what happened this year, but Texas looked flat out unprepared on defense at times. The players should take the fall for that as well.

Greg Davis will never be replaced as the Texas OC as long as Mack is there (which will be a long time).

Well we will get Coach Dodge the HC experience here in Denton. When he turns UNT into a 8-10 win team on a consistant basis then that will give him the expereince that boosters like Hicks and Jamil will covet before they buy out Macks contract. :D

Do you know if UNT is serious about bringing Dodge up to UNT? Do you think he'll up the quality of play, environment, etc? Do you think Dodge will jump the SLC ship?

I really hope we get Miami's DC. Boy that would be a scary defense after adjusting the DEnds.
