Congrats to Cove. This one could have gone either way. Judson missed two PAT's. Thats the breaks of the game. Judson has two blaring weaknesses that were exposed tonight. Their passing and kicking execution is terrible. They will need to work on those to be successful this year.

Tony Frankiln said it best when he said there was a little home cookin by the refs. How much more obvious can it get then on Judson's last drive . On Cove's last drive they help them out by stopping the clock for a bull**** measurement. Cove needed this win alot more then Judson did. Congrats but the better team did'nt win.

Mr Lucci, I am a Judson fan through and through, but Judson did not execute good enough to win the game. They had untimely penalties and as mentioned, missed two PAT's. They only have themselves to blame. What I do know is that coach Rackley will have them ready for next weeks game. I am sure he will have those kids work on their execution, specifically the kicking game.

Just remember this, you have to beat a heck of a lot of really good teams to win 5 state championships in 20 years! Also, they did have to go thru the east texas schools to play for those titles!

Judson plays in one of the toughest districts in the state. IMO, all of their wins are quality wins. They needed a complete schedule and Laredo Nixon was the only team that was willing to play them.

Good post until the home cooking response. Refs were from Houston so you can keep that comment. Kicking is a part of the game so you have to play all facets in order to win. Non-conference game so won't have any impact on playoffs but good victory just the same.

Cove as well as Judson played a great game. The win for Cove will help them more than the loss will hurt Judson. I will not take anything away from Cove but this game will help both of these teams as they both will make playoff runs. It is good to see two teams that are in my book very equal going at it, and it shows that both are not afraid to play anybody. I do know that early in the year tha Judson like to play a whold lot of kids to help prepare them for district games and the playoffs. They do ned gto work more on the passing game and the extra points where terrible and that alone is why they lost the game. I would also give Judson coaches a note, you must get #1 involved in your offense, he was the best athlete on the field, and it showed on the kickoff as he ran right past 32 on Cove. All in all it was a great game good look to both of these fine teams, and I agree Judson probably will not loos any more games in their 10 game regular season.

Judson and Cove are both real good teams. Congrats to Cove for winning. Nixon is a decent team, too. They would make the playoffs in a lot of districts, but not all districts, and would be district title contenders in a few districts.

One unsportsmen like conduct when Cove tackled Judson out of bounds. Judson popped the guy back I believe, first flag. Should have been both ways from my perspective, but I could have missed something the ref didn't.

One personal foul happened when Judson player made a late hit after the whistle, seemed like a good call.

Two holding calls on same side of line by the same ref during the same series late in the game. Overcame the first 1st and 20 and got a first down, wasn't able to overcome the second 1st and 20, had to punt.

I think Cove's only penalty might have come on a holding on a return, possibly the int return?

Not a whole lot of calls either way, just wish it would have stayed that way through the game if that was they way they were calling it. I know Rackley was livid after that 2nd holding call.

Red Zone defense was awesome for Cove last night. Even the first series we got to the red zone easily, but Cove tightened up. Three TDs on three 4th and goal from the 1. If our placekicking wasn't as bad, the score might have been 20-9.

IT would nice to believe this statement, but then again you must consider the source. Judson has won all those games in a district that is one of the hardest in the state, which has been said many times on this board from people from all over the state. As far as this BS about Longview and Lukin, Tyler Lee and Tyler thats tuff if you have to play them 4 weeks in a row, you just got a championship from one and the other could not stay on the same field with SLC, just deal with it.

And SLC will beat allof them agin if they play them.

GREAT GAME COVE. Cove's Offense didn't lose their heads in the last minute, and thats why they won.You can't blame a loss on the refs, no matter how crooked they are. The refs weren't that bad this game anyway. Coach Rackley told the players that this was a good loss, that this will strengthen them and that its better to lose earlier in the season than in December.

Our kicking game needs improvement, and that is still a work in progress. This is the first season of football for both of our kickers. On the first missed PAT, there was a bad snap and the ball never got put down right, so you can't really blame the kicker. The second missed PAT was SO close, it bounced off the inside of the left upright and came out. Our punter is also the QB, #5 Carl Bouldin, and he got off some nice kicks.

#1 is Derek Williams. He will become involved in the offense more when our QBs(#5 Carl Bouldin and #15 Eddie Bermudez) settle down a bit. In these first few games, our passing game isn't going to be that great, because these 2 QBs have played in the Judson district since 7th grade, and since 7th grade, 2 pass plays a game were a lot. We have always been a run heavy team, and now we are starting to balance out and it is going to take a little for our two Jr QBs to get used to it. Also look for #8 Oscar Lee and Rob Housler (6'5") to be key players in our passing game.

Alfred McDaniels has already proven that he can make big plays (7 rushes, 196 yards, 3 tds against Laredo Nixon) and Kevin Taylor is a strong, fast runner that can take the ball up the middle effectively.

Once again, Cove won the game yesterday, not the refs. Great game Cove, good luck with the rest of the season. Now I start thinking of the Pflugerville game.

100 wins in 5 years= impossible in football. in '02 and '03 we played Waco, Bryan, and Spring Westfield. We now play Nixon, Cove, and Pflugerville. We also play Smithson Valley during district play. Smithson Valley is ranked better than Lufkin, Cove is ranked better than Tyler Lee, and John Tyler isn't even in the top 25 while Pflugerville is, so how are these higher quality wins than Judson. Last season, we beat all 3, and they are within 5 weeks of each other.

By the way, Laredo Nixon won 38-0 yesterday.

As for the comment about Judson not wanting to play us next year, I know that if their Coach has the same mindset that Welch has they will want to scheduel another game next season. These two teams test one another and demand excellence from both teams, and that is exactly what was displayed last night. In any game you will have hurdles it is about how each team faces these hurdles and overcomes them. It just happens that it was Cove's night, in a game that was so close it could have gone either way. It is a shame that people are overlooking these simple facts. Some people say that these were two average teams playing each other and didn't see anything special, that is expected to happen when you get two teams of this calibur to play eachother. One will not just blow the other out of the water.

Good post and good points. Both teams played well, and showed areas needed for improvement. Judson had the opportunity to take control of the game early (and in their final possession), but CC did not roll over & die, but continued to chip away at the lead. Both teams had starters missing, and Judson shot themselves in the foot through costly penalties (although, my one negative, refs did not see the entire situation on one personal foul and missed a few holding calls on passes by CC, but that happens). I know that Judson will grow from this game and soon with Pflugerville next week.

As for next year's schedule, unlike roundwhateverhisname is who doesn't have a clue about the high caliber of teams that Judson has scheduled throughout the years, CC would be a quality opponent. But if gas prices remain high or near an arm-and-a-leg, then many schools will schedule teams closer to home. Rockets would love play Northside ISD schools here in San Antonio, but they are, well, scared. Anyway congrats CC good luck in playoffs. Shouldn't have too much problems with Waco again this year.

As a player for cove, it was a great game. Both teams played pretty bad, so that is why you say we looked average. Donald Buchram didnt even get goin. Sterling Lewis was out. Brent came in without playing all week. The hole home field advantage was complete BS. We got screwed out of 10 secs near the end, so dont say they helped us out. Judson was holding our ends all game so be happy with only 2 holding calls. I watched the film this morning, and if you dont want unsportsman like conduct than dont try and punch our guys one the ground. Both teams and down nights, but it made for a great team. Our goal for the season is to be a 4th quarter team, and thats what we were last night. I think that cove and judson will play again in the future. We wont get big heads about the win, we are already game plaining for Waco University. They have a lot of talent on there team. Maybe now that we have beaten Abilene(scrimage) and Converse Judson, yall will stop talking about how small we are. There is no substitution for speed and heart. Goodluck to Converse. Maybe we can both bring home the Div 1 and Div 2 state titles.

Friday night at the game, late in the 4th quarter with CJ ahead 19-13, I told my buddy that the Dawgs got one more chance...I also said (with about 2:00 to go) what ever happens on this drive, we've just seen one heck of a game. This nosense about wanting it more, or better team didn't win..that's the bull****, the officals were from Houston, and those officals ran off 7 seconds deciding to meassure, which had the Cove coaches pulling their hair out, you could What if? this game to death,,,,what if Gardner started the game, would Judson have went up 13-0 then ???? What if Cove didn't block that FG in the 3rd?????? Bottom line is, those of us who where there say a classic football game between to very good schools, and this time Cove came out on top,,,,It is what it is, and that's that. The year we beat Lamar they were ranked #3 I believe... We kicked a game winning field goal with like a minute left. That game was a classic, but I think this one got it by a small margin. In the Lamar game we played much better. This game we played enough to win and thats what counts. If we woulda played our best, which we have yet to do so far, it wouldnt have come down to the final play and the other way around if u are a judson fan.

I was heartbroken when carl missed the last Pat that would have made the game go to Ot if cove had Scored. Ive known the kid since he was a freshman and i know hes got to me just beating himself up.

Anyways it was a very good game, cove won ill give them that, and heres why you won. Your secondary was the best ive seen in forever. Very active and athletic, however we were able to run it on you guys all night and dont say we didnt. Last drive we messed up and gave you guys a chance and you beat us. I think rackley should have taken a saftey to run more time off and make u guys work from further back. But your secondary was great. The only guy on the defense that was playing bals to the wall for judson was our All area saftey tony harp i saw him make/assist like 20 tackles.

I think this loss for judson is more important then a win, losses dont feel good and the kids need to know what its like to lose so they wont forget. And besides judson never goes undefeated if they win state so hopefully we get 13 wins in a row :)

I was heartbroken when carl missed the last Pat that would have made the game go to Ot if cove had Scored. Ive known the kid since he was a freshman and i know hes got to me just beating himself up.

Anyways it was a very good game, cove won ill give them that, and heres why you won. Your secondary was the best ive seen in forever. Very active and athletic, however we were able to run it on you guys all night and dont say we didnt. Last drive we messed up and gave you guys a chance and you beat us. I think rackley should have taken a saftey to run more time off and make u guys work from further back. But your secondary was great. The only guy on the defense that was playing bals to the wall for judson was our All area saftey tony harp i saw him make/assist like 20 tackles.

Good game none the less, cove should win district with that team easy f they dont then ill be disapointed. Hatter, thanks for the good comments. Cove has had good DB's for many years. I too was impressed with #7 Harp. It seemed like his name was being called on every defensive play for Judson. Judson ran the ball well. It seemed every counter, trap, and off tackle run picked up 4 to 10 yards. If Judson gets their passing game down they will be a vary dangerious team. I think they will as the season goes on. Just like Cove's loss to Judson last year, it made the team better. I have no doubt that Judson will be better as the season goes on. Like I said in an earlier post on this site, Judson losing was probably the worst thing that could have happened for the rest of the teams that they will face.

Hatter - It has been 3 days now and still you are talking about the game. Both teams played a great game and it was a won point win for Cove. It is early in the season and this game will serve as a building block for both schools. I will not get caught up in they had more first downs and Judson had more rushing yards, it simply does not matter anymore. If I were you I would start getting ready for a very good PV team, because you cannot change the past.

Thank ya...finally...Judson needs to worry bout their next game against pfulgervill i think and we got our game against w.uni....did yall know waco uni has a pretty big OT...scouting says 425lbs but i didnt believe that...we saw him on film and he was HUGE...probably high 300's....he was slow and no feet....

You saw the wrong numbers...Both teams had like 200 rushing but we had almost 100 through the air and jusdson was very slim

C'mon fellas....You could tell by the way both teams played it was an early season game. As far as I'm concerned, neither of these teams took control of the game. As has been stated, " woulda, coulda, shoulda....". Congrats on outlasting us Cove. I was at the game and it was hard to put my finger on who had the best team. Cove was very impressive after the 1st quarter. If our OC doesn't get a little more imagination, we could be in for a long season. It doesn't take a defense too long to figure out who you need to contain. On the other hand, Cove had a much more balanced attack and kept our defense in check when it came to making the plays they needed to make. The Cove QB is a real playmaker. I was impressed with Coves offensive calls. Maybe we'll learn something from this game. Good luck Dawgs.
