today strake jesuit found out that RB Grant Jefferson, a gamebreaking back, has torn his ACL and is out for the year...their head coach, Coach Ron Counter also suffered a heart attack but is doing well in the icu according to strake jesuit staff...

on a positive notice though, strake jesuit appears to be getting new orleans jesuit RB (all state in louisiana) because of strake jesuit allowing all new orleans jesuit students to come for free to strake jesuit for as long as they need because of hurricane katrina...this star RB wont be elligibile until...the katy game

Wow.. if Strake gets some of those New Orlean Jesuit kids. Can you say playoffs ..!! New Orlean Jesuit always has tons of talent.

An influx of indivinual talent does not always make for a great team. I think that the kids that are escaping from New Orleans might have other life altering events that could affect their play. A team is a group of athelets that all work together for the common good. A team like last years Lufkin team had a lot more talent than the SLC team that beat them in the playoffs. Having a bunch of Div I talent who play 1 on 1 does not beat a team of 11 kids playing together.

I am glad that the kids from New Orleans will have a place to play and a chance to take their minds off the fact that they no longer have any home or things. All the talk about how unfair it will be is just usless concidering the complet upheaval that these kids are going to have. My prayers go to the kids who will be able to still play football, albeit as a permanant visitor in a town that is not home.

Strake does need to be watched for recruiting. However, in this case, the homeless kids need to go to school and be able to play.

draron, poor choice of teams, in my estimation. lp is one of the best "teams" around. we weren't overmatched either time we played, athlete wise. just because idiot, lieing recruiters have their racial biases, doesn't prove much. lpick a better non-team group to demean.

The Jesuit schools are aloud to recruite

No, we aren't!!!!!

It is riddiculous to allege recruiting for the Jesuit schools. Students WANT to come here. They WANT to be a part of the program.

And implying that taking in Katrina victims is recruiting is completely wrong. Regardless of the football skill level of the players we are accepting, we are taking them in anyway beacuse they are our Jesuit brothers, and Jesuit schools live up to their motto, "Men for Others."

haha wow coppel cowboy mr 5atexasfootball veteran sir. "jesuit schools are allowed to recruit". when i see that you're a 'veteran' on this site i expect you know good comments with truth behind them, opinions, etc. not blatant lies that you know arent true. you are turning a thread made in offer to coach counter's heart attack into an attack, in itself, by saying that the jesuits are allowed to recruit. good job good luck against slc its all you got

I'm not going to get into a worry game about where the LA kids end up. I'm just hoping for the best for each kid. If a stud ended up at LP - he would be warmly received, but some LP kid would be pi**ed because his spot was taken.

Let the LA kids play - if your team wins state because of it -- we'll all just have to deal with it.

well it just so happens jesuits RB is injured with an ACL tear so bringing in an all state louisiana RB from nola jesuit sounds great around now

Let's not act like Lousiana is so great. Longview has put some butt whuppins on the best La has to offer recently. I disagree, any coach that would let a kid come in start over a kid in their program that worked his butt off to get in that position is low class. Period!! I am sure many would not have birth certificates due to the flood and we could have some 20 year olds playing. I understand they are trying to show some compassion but this is going to cause problems. There is other ways to show compassion besides letting them play football this year.

It turns out that the NOLA kids might not be able to play for Strake...

because of the huge influx of NOLA students (over 400, going to a school that had only 850 to begin with), Strake is going to have 2 sessions of school.

I believe that SJ kids will be at their normal time, and JHS students in teh afternoon and night.

This will probably conflict with football practice times...what will Strake do?

Maybe Joe Nixon will threaten to sue if the UIL doesn't move allow practice at any time of the day or night and allows Friday night kickoffs at 1 a.m.

what will Strake do?

Who cares, it's strake. No one outside of the Jesuit's gives a crap about them and wants them out of UIL

We here at Dallas Jesuit really don't care what league that Strake is in. And I don't see why anyone would want Strake out...they aren't good enough at anything to care about. To put it to you this way...SJ went 2-8 against UIL schools last year.

I can see schools not wanting Dallas Jesuit in the UIL...if the all-sports tallies were seperate for boys and girls, JCP would be 3rd in the metroplex behind SLC and Rockwall.

ya cause everyone knows how good dallas jesuit is at football...strake took 4 in a row versus the hopeless rangers. let's see dallas jesuit in 19-5A and then count how many playoff appreances they'll have....maybe 2. get out of your weak dallas suburban district and join katy and alief, texas and then talk smack.

I pray that Coach Counter has a full and complete recovery.

In other years maybe 19-5A is pretty tough, but don't brag about any playoff appearance coming out of that district this year. Katy is a powerhouse, but the rest of 19-5A this year is AWFUL.

Jesuit's schedule last year was comparable in difficulty to Strake's with the exception of Katy. So, not counting Katy, SJ went 2-5 against UIL schools, and JCP went 8-3 against them (not counting Mesquite John Horn's forfeit to us as a win).

Strake might be better than us this year, but there is no way to find out as we are no longer playing the worthless "Jesuit Bowl."

And speaking of the Jesuit Bowl, if you want to bring up the past, why don't you look at JCP's 20 TCIL championships? I know that SJ didn't have that many...how many DID they have?

You can't compare the schools anymore, and you can't compare the districts. For your information, Jesuit has absoloutely no say in what district they are put in. All we can do is bring it on the field...something which SJ hasn't shown they can do in their time in the UIL.

I don't see a problem with Strake Jesuit taking an outstanding running back from a New Orleans Catholic school when they've opened their doors to all other students from that same school.

Here in Austin, we've got a more serious recruiting situation where an evacuee relocated to Manor ISD (on the east side of Austin) and was interviewed on local radio because apparently he was an outstanding football player in New Orleans. He stated that he'd been contacted by a coach for the Lake Travis District (on the west side of Austin) and was going to watch their game that coming Friday night to see if he'd like to go to school there. The report quoted the school as saying that it wasn't a coach, it must have been a parent.

This week the newspaper is reporting that he has moved in with a relative "nearer" to the Lake Travis district, enrolled there, and will be playing for them in two weeks.

We don't compete against them, I don't bear them or this kid any ill will, but I don't understand how UIL permits this kind of situation.

The Strake Jesuit situation, as described above, seems to be straight up to me, and should be permitted.

yes you can compare the districts in the first year of play. katy was defending their 5a state championship, alief taylor had martellus bennett the no. 1 TE in the country, elsik had the best duel-threat QB in houston morris crosby and cinco ranch was undefeated. and everyone knows 19-5A is a power.
and how was the jesuit bowl worthless? yall lost it 4 years in a row and it was against the only other private school in the state that could beat yall. and yall rangers might think yall are badasses and all cause of going to the playoffs but its not worth anything. everyone knows that dallas jesuit wouldnt do half the stuff it has done in dallas in katy and alief, texas. nice try though.
