Harker Heights 0
Half

Although Harker Heights looked terrible (three ints in the first half and 2 fumbles. CP scored first, and on the next kickoff Heights fumbled  ) Cedar Park look pretty darn good. Alot better than i thought they would. They look like they would be a playoff team, i dont know who they would replace but they looked more than legit. Their defense was giving up ALOT of long runs, but Harker Heights could do absolutely nothing about their offense. CP's new arsenal consisted of Travis Watson at qb, and Tyler Smith (younger brother of cp great Quinton Smith-rice). Their new option offense looked solid, alot of option passing.

Churchill/Clark

Clark 21
Churchill 14

An exciting game but again far from perfect football. Not sure why the Harris poll thought Churchill was #10 but they are a one man show.

Clark was able to run the ball on Churchill in the first half. They ran 2 TE sets and just smashmouth it down the field. Unfortunately for Clark, they had a penalty to kill the drive and then a missed fg kept the game at 0-0 for most of the first half. Finuzzi made some good plays to get Churchill going in the last 2 mins and he scored on a 6 yd run with less then a min to go.

In the 2nd half Churchill showed their biggest weakness on D. They just can't defend the pass. They have no speed on this defense and once a team gets in the open field they're toast. Twice Clark threw short screens and both of them went the distance after a missed tackle. Clark had another TD wasted when the QB threw to a wide open WR at the Churchill 10. Unfortunately the QB only threw it to the 14yd line. The WR had to come back to the ball and then dropped it. :(

Once again Finuzzi took over late in the game. They started from their 6 yd line with 2 mins to go and no time outs. Churchill moved the ball down the field only to shoot themselves in the foot with penalties. They got it down to the Clark 2 only to have it moved back on a holding penalty during the run. Game ended on an INT in the endzone.

Both teams had their share of mistakes that could have lead to scores but I would say it was about even

Exciting game but still way to many mistakes.

lol there are 2 ways to look at this...

Churchill is absoloutly horriable or everyone below churchill in the rankings is worse lol....nah all churchill has is Fanuzzi...thats it.

I doubt they will make the playoffs this year. Regean is looking good for there first appearence.

Im not going to hide, I thought they would do a lot better than they are doing, and picked them to be toward the top of the district. I guess when you dont have the team to go along with your star, you not going anywhere. I figured even a decent team around him would get them far, but it seems they dont even have that.

After two games the thought I have about Churchill is that they are just slow on D. They are average against the pass and once a play gets to the open field, they just don't have the speed to keep up.
On offense it's been Finuzzi and................well it's been Finuzzi. Ian Harris has had opportunities but way too many dropped balls. He dropped two more this week and one of them was on a WR screen that had him cutting back inside and up the post. Finuzzi hit him in stride with the defense out of position and he just flat out dropped it. Sure TD if he catches. He did get into the endzone this week on a nice (pick) slant pattern.
Burns (WR) had a great first game but was a no show this week. He and Finuzzi are the speed on the O-side of the ball and that's it.
Can they still get a playoff spot.....sure they can but they'll have to play perfect ball.
Judson and SV will fight for the 265a title. After that, it's anyone's chance for the 3rd spot.

Thanks for the update, I was wondering what the problem was. I have not got to see them play yet. As for the defense, there may not be anything they can do with that, but the offense at least seems like they can adjust and get that going at least. I agree they can still do very well, but it seems they are going to have to make some changes somewhere.

Height was picked 4th or 5th in district. Supposed to be rebuilding they lost almost their entire team to graduation. Guess the job is not going well so far.

I can, my buddy just got back, said the QB fumbled 5 or 6 times and lost at least 3 plus threw at least one pick. I thought we had a decent QB, what happend to him. Also, I heard the kids were down due to Murphys' dad dying. Not to make excuses, but it could explain the lack of focus.

Carroll 56-24 final

Carroll is the real deal guys...McElroy went 28 for 36 for 300 yards & 4 more touchdowns...Riley Dodge played every 3rd series and was all world...we are fortunate to be so deep at WR & QB. The O-line was outstanding and the D adjusted well & shut down one of the states best runners, Emanuel Moody, in the 2nd half. Coppell had no answers for the Carroll O, once again....I believe the Dragons set an all time team record for first downs tonight also...

MacArthur/Taft

Mac wins again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

31-18

Close first half with Mac up 10-3. In the 2nd half Taft came out and kept Mac of balance with quick screens and traps. Drove down and tied the game on their 2nd possesion of the half. Mac went with the backup QB (Schmidt) most of the 2nd half and it paid off. He runs the offense better. Mac put up 3 straight TD's to run the score to 31-10 with 8:00 to go in the 4th. Taft got a late TD that didn't effect the outcome.
Great win for Mac. The kids believe they can win and now they're proving it on the field.

The Bowie game makes me mad. We had two bad punt snaps that gave the ball to Round Rock at our 5 or so. Missed 2 long FGs, and roughed the punter on another. Special teams lost this one for us.

Desoto 56-50 over Garland in 5 OTs.

Despite looking bad on both sides of the ball tonight, and being down
28-14 with about 5 minutes left, Garland recovered a fumble and ran it in,
the stopped Desoto 3 and out, and recovered a bad snap on the punt at the 5, and tied the game with 2 min left.

Each team scored touchdowns and extra points in the first 2 ots.
Garland fumbled away the ball to open the 3rd OT, but stopped Desoto 3 and out
and blocked the fg attempt.

In the 4rth OT, both teams scored, and converted the 2 point conversions.
In the 5th, Garland fumbled to the first snap, the Desoto took the ball in for 6.

Was disappointing to see the lines get pushed around like they did, but it was pretty exciting at the end. Better to lose a game like this now....

And after seeing what ET did to Midland Lee, Desoto looks like a pretty good team.

That score really suprises me, Bandido. I thought that would be a good close game that could go either way........and if either team won big I would have bet on Seguin. I'm interested in seeing how the stats look from that one.

BandidoNB

I have no stats, but based on what I heard the Seguin defense held up well until the 4th quarter and then just fell apart.

rattlerbacker
09-03-2005, 12:46 AM
The Express News has the story up now. Seguin rushed for 49 yards on 24 carries. NBC rb Wilke had 163 yards on 22 carries. Add in 3 fumbles for Seguin and an Int returned for a TD by NBC late and you get a lopsided score.

I dont know why seguin was supposed to be good, they used to be in our district 25-5a before the re-alignment

we gave them a thourough spanking every year. :D

rattlerbacker

Seguin was a very tough team last year, they won with a stout defense and opportunistic special teams play. They would have been a handful for Westlake last year and might very well have beaten them. The problem for them this year is they lost a lot of talented seniors off that defense, something like 5 or 6 from the front 7 including an all-state linebacker. Expectations were raised for this year based on last year when, IMO, they will have a hard time being as good as they were last year.

Hey 06,

Yes, there were alot of penalties, but . . . . . . . .

quite a few were 'aggressive' penalties.

Holding penalties are a bummer. The neutral zone penalties to me
are 'hustle' penalties.

For a bunch of "No Namers" they are playing well.
I am pretty impressed with 'O' #37. He refused to go down. He gained so many extra yards because he just won't go down.

I like the new D.C.'s approach to the game.

This was a good opportunity for Allen.

Naaman was pretty weak though.

As these guys play more together they'll get a lot better.

It's gong to be FUN this year.

Go E A G L E S !
