for those that are familiar with the no child left behind laws - this is funny! a
Also, shows the lack of reality show in the NCLB laws - just remember they are asking teachers and districts to do these things with .
NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND - The Football Version
1. All teams must make the state playoffs and all MUST win the championship. If a team does not win the championship, they will be on probation until they are the champions, and coaches will be held accountable.
If after two years they have not won the championship, their footballs and equipment will be taken away UNTIL they do win the championship.
2. All kids will be expected to have the same football skills at the same time even if they do not have the same conditions or opportunities to practice on their own. NO exceptions will be made for lack of interest in football, a desire to perform athletically, or genetic abilities or disabilities of themselves or their parents. ALL KIDS WILL PLAY FOOTBALL AT A PROFICIENT LEVEL!
3. Talented players will be asked to workout on their own, without instruction. This is because the coaches will be using all their instructional time with the athletes who aren't interested in football, have limited athletic ability or whose parents don't like football.
4. Games will be played year round, but statistics will only be kept in the 4th, 8th, and 11th game.
This new system will create a New Age of Sports where every school is expected to have the same level of talent and all teams will reach the same minimum goals. If no child gets ahead, then no child gets left behind. If parents do not like this new law, they are encouraged to vote for vouchers and support private schools that can screen out the non-athletes and prevent their children from having to go to school with bad football players.

Careful about posting something like this....if the UIL sees it they would probally make it a law.

I know you posted this in jest and it is a tongue in cheek type comment. Yet, making fun of the "no child left behind" plan probably isnt the best thing. Our state has worked hard to give each child an opportunity to learn, especially the underpriveledged ones. I laughed at first because of the humor in your post, yet it really almost makes it seem as though you dont think that every child deserves a chance at an education. I am almost 100% sure that was not your intention, but i am near graduation and soon to be teaching in our state and it frustrates me sometimes when people mock the state's attempts to make the education system better.
Yet, on the lighter side of the post, i can say that if you want to really see a place where kids are told they arent better than anyone else and that no one wins...look at upward sports. They have these programs at my church and i cannot wrap my head around the fact that they are teaching children that there is no winner and no loser. Anyway, i thought id post this and see if anyone is going to bellyache about what i said.

Rest assured it was tongue in cheek - especially in light of all the belly aching about the 4 teams.
I am a teacher and fully believe that all students deserve a chance at an education and the opportunity to reach their potential. However, I do believe that NOT all children can achieve at the commended performance set by the law. Having the EXACT same expectation of EVERY child is an injustice to the children of our country. I have a brother with mental and physical handicaps and to hold him and his teachers to a level that he is not capable of is ridiculous. I think that students are being cheated by their parents - who are not taking their responisibility seriously - they think all they have to do is feed, clothe and send them to school. Parents aren't being the moral teachers of their children - parents are not making their child responsible for their choices and learning - it is always the teacher's fault - parents don't read or do homework or talk with their children!
Take it with the grain of salt that it was posted - and realize that laws made by NON educators are not always the best or most informed decisions. As a future teacher - you will soon realize of what I speak.

Well said Trojan. Satirical no doubt. I think he is referring to the UIL adding more teams. You have to ask the question though, "What is the purpose of having high school sports?" Is it to make every kid feel good or teach them about real life and competition? Some would have no starters and everyone would play regardless of skill or ability. Imagine the frustration of the kid that is gifted having to deal with those less talented. He would have no motivation to do better. IMO that teaches them nothing and they get a rude shock in the real world after high school. Same thing about grades. You can't give unearned A's.:)

Oh goodness, i never said that each child should be treated the exact same. That's an ignorant way to approach things, each person requires different treatment because each person has a different background. While i acknowledge that i wont always agree with what the education board makes me teach or teach to, i honestly do believe, however naively, that they act in the best interest of children. Either way, i was hoping that you were speaking with some sort of sarcasm and i am glad that you were.
and back to the topic: Lets hope things never get to the point where winning and losing are restricted because someone is offended, because that seems to be the trend our society is going towards.

What has made the USA the greatest sporting nation in the world, is the commitment to find a winning formula at all sports, whether an individual sport or a team sport.
You just need to look at the history of success of the USA in the Olympic Games, Golf, Tennis, etc. It is just as well for the rest of the world that the USA has sports which are predominantly unique to the USA; such as Baseball and Football. I am convinced that if Soccer and Rugby were main-stream sports in the US, the US would be world champions at both.
Sporting excellence is achieved through coaching and facilities and athletes learning from winning and losing. Most schools in the US have facilities which are beyond those in other western countries. The facilities in colleges, which further nurture the US athlete, again must be some of the best in any university throughout the world.
We must not allow the individual competitive spirit, desire for competition, striving for victory, developing a winning formula be eroded through political correctness. I believe in respecting an individual as a person, but do not make everyone a winner, just for the sake of making every child happy at not ever losing. In the real world there winners and losers and losing is a fact of every day life, as is winning. Texas High Football is US athleticism, coaching prowess at its best and must not be allowed to disappear as a result of political correctness.
