Strake Jesuit Crusaders (1-0) versus St. Pius X Panthers (1-0)
at Crusader Stadium Friday night 7:30 PM

Jesuit is coming off a big win over Baytown Lee 33-20 at home last Friday night. RB Jefferson had 24 carries for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns. QB Bandy was 6-11 for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns. The offense carried the game with WR Stephen Tyree catching another touchdown. The defense will have to step up against Pius' state top 5 ranked OL Ian Symmonette and QB Billy Noonan. Pius lives off of the "big play" which carried them in their 20-19 win over 4A Dickinson last Friday night. Their first score was a 61 yard bomb to trusty reciever Tarence Farmer, who had 2 interceptions and a touchdown catch. Another big touchdown was a 63 yard bullet from Noonan to Reggie Allen for a touchdown. Noonan was 4-15 but had 149 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had 2 1-yard rushing touchdowns.
Pius may have lost state ranked running back Mike Washington to Louisiana Tech but they return Billy Noonan at QB in sophomore year and Tarence Farmer playing both ways at FS and WR and Allen at WR who both had huge touchdown catches in a rallying win over Dickinson.
Jesuit will rely on their offense surrounded by 3 year returning QB Tim Bandy. Other threats are growing up fast sophomore WR Burk who had a big touchdown over Lee Friday night. And of course the stars are WR/FS Stephen Tyree, RB Grant Jefferson and DB/TB Jonathan Moore who are all ranked by this website and DCTFM and are expected to continue playing football well past their senior years this year.

Next week: Strake Jesuit takes on their classic rival the St. Thomas Eagles at Rice Stadium. Jesuit has a winning streak of 8 years over the Eagles and 6 years of every team from freshman B to JV. With a sophomore QB starting for the Eagles and a newly formed option-oriented offense the Eagles are once again rebuilding and looking to get pass the Crusaders.
Expect Jesuit to go 3-0 before they face the Tigers of Katy, Texas at Crusader Stadium where about 1/10000 of the town will actually see the game and most everyone from the Strake community will.

Has Strake had any dialogue about playing Katy @ Rice Stadium? Other than the obvious downside that Katy would travel well and probably outnumber Strake's 3-1 or 4-1 for a Strake "home" game, it would certainly make more sense than the massive headaches that every knows must be coming from the parking situation -- that Fiesta next to SJP would be wise to charge $20 like the Texans for places in their lot -- to the overall ill will that's going to befall Katy fans making the hour-plus drive through Friday rush hour to find the stadium can't hold them. I have heard the Crusaders weren't exactly welcomed with open arms in 19-5A football and trying to cram Katy's fans into that little stadium certainly don't seem to be helping relations any.

In public school football, community support is an extremely big deal. Strake and any other private schools with desires of participating in the UIL would do very well to realize that.

ya the thing is no one cares about your upcoming games with small private schools no one has ever heard of so get over yourself. This is high school football and you are expected to play in a venue which can hold enough people. A small stadium is NOT a point of pride.

i would go so far as calling it a point of shame. teams that travel well often overwhelm the other sides stadiums. you have 2 choices i guess-camp out to ensure seating or listen on the radio. a nice 3-4 hr relaxing sit about in aug/sep in houston in midday will test anyones deodorant and patience. i wish the uil had required adequate stadium facilities prior to entry.

The UIL is scared of the courts.......period. That is why we have Strake Jesuit in our district.

Forcing Katy to play at Crusader rather than Rice just seems like stubborness to the point of stupidity on Strake's part, as I assume they would split the gate with KHS at Rice and stand to make a sizably larger profit from it than from a sold-out Crusader, even after paying Rice the free to rent its facility.

It just seems like given the extreme gift of having an entire set of by-laws re-written for your unprecented admission to the UIL would make you humble and helpful to make the experience pleasant for everyone, but that certainly doesn't seem the case in this instance.

htownfootball,

It's good that you're proud of your team. But you should be ashamed of your field. It might be fine for playing small schools, but can't handle the 5A crowds that you sued to be able to play.

Also, I would like to know what kind of religion is it that would laugh at inconvenienceing their guests.

The stadium isn't even that small. Dallas Jesuit's Haggar Stadium has seating for only 4000, and then lots of standing room.

Both stadiums meet UIL seating requirements, and in fact were upgraded to do so before they entered the UIL.

So stop complaining and show up to the game early. Chances are that the visitors side won't even be full during the game.

Why does it really matter where the game is at or how many of your fans are there? You are going to slaughter them anyway.

I guess you've never been to a Katy game. The visitors side will be full. How much seating does STRAKE Jesuit have on the visitors side. Do you know?
