I think it is a combination of things really. But could you blame the so called "pros"? Sure. They act like spoiled brats most of the time. Ok, let me clarify that a little better. You have a few that consistantly act like spoiled brats and the media that just covers every single moment in their pathetic lives. That is what the kids see on tv, papers, 'zines, ect... So they get the idea that acting that way is acceptable.

Ultimately, if kind of falls on the parents. Or lack of parenting. And from there, it gets into politics and I'm just gonna leave it alone. :)

I've always had a problem with this. Watching Wyle E.Coyote try to ride a rocket across a canyon didnt make me want to try. I grew up in one of the worst neighborhoods in Houston...and saw things every day and never fell into that. It's easy to put the blame on other people. That's what the media CHOOSES to cover...but come on..highschool kids should know what's acceptable and what's not by now...I can understand if they are 6-7 years old..but these are young men about to be adults..and if they can let a Moss or TO influence them...our future is in trouble.

Hey dada...these are the same kids that risk going to jail in order to have a freakin' gold grill when they smile. We are in trouble. But your right, they should know better. They should look at these players antics and determine that they are not good role models. And if that is reinforced by their parents......usually they will make the right choices. But when Mama thinks it's more important to go the freakin' club on a Tuesday...instead of helping her child with his homework...well we all know what happens. I could have very easily fell into this trap....and almost did. The television was my babysitter for most of my childhood. But today's society is so much more advanced. A kid left at home alone has way too many avenues to get into trouble. The worst I could do is steal some cigarettes, or watch scrambled soft-porn on Cinemax. If I would have had all of the technology that kids have now......whooooo boy...I could created some serious mischief. The emphasis should be on the parents. Not the kids. They did not ask to be born. And without that guidance....Randy Moss and T.O. are raising your kids.
I be damned if they raise mine though.

I agree. I still go back to my old neighborhood and people look at me as I feel I'm too good for them. I'm still the same person...nobody gave me anything..they had the options I had. It would have been easier to say..OK I'm gonna sell drugs and do this because thats what I see everyday...that would have been the scapegoat just like this so called "Coach" is using TO and Moss as scapegoats. Like I said I could side with him if he was coaching Pee Wee football...but highschool???? come on. The "These kids see this on TV" excuse is not gonna fly...more like "My players dont respect me, I'm not a good coach". To me, the High School football coach was #3 on my people to fear list after Mom and Dad. I'm 31 years old and well still get slapped if I told my mom some of the things I hear kids say to their parents these days....all this started when they took the Paddle and replaced it with the 'Time Out"

when kids are raised by flexible(read non-existant) parents who wanted to be friends and who wanted to allow kids freedoms from absolutes, they have no moral mooring point. when they see our president get a free pass for obvious indiscretions by arguing over the meaning of "is", why can't they vacillate around and warp "good" behavior into what fits their needs? the reasons for this loss of focus has numerous reasons, not the least of which is the "separation"/dismantlement of influence of church and state.

blamelessness is also rampant throughout society. i always preached to my kids(to what effect) that unless you take responsibility for your failures, how can you justify taking credit for your successes. in todays world, all that will be required to be successful is a modicum of ability, sincere politeness, and the ability to take responsibility for the results of your actions. these coaches and many like them are bucking a strong riptide of negativity epitomized by to, rmoss, etal. they are to be commended and supported at every turn. i suspect we'll see a lawsuit against one of them soon for the damage it caused their little helpless baby boy.

dada4w. That was the point I was trying to make. It isnt just the brats fault that the kids are trying to be like that. It is all of our faults really for not standing up and saying "these are my kids and I will raise them".

When a parent lets the tv raise a child, what do you expect? I pretty much think we all kind of agree where the blame really lies.

I agree. Like Barkley said a few years back "I am NOT a Role Model" that is a touchy situation.....being on tv a lot..whether you like it or not..SOME kids look up to you. But at the same time...you cant blame a so called role model for a lack of Parenting or in this case a lack of coaching. I rant at times so I might not be making any sense. I think a lot quicker than I type :)
