I think JV deserves more respect. I and many others have played on a JV team before and its tough. They are the scout team and tackling dummies at many schools(all though not the latter at our school anymore). They work just as hard and do more than the Varsity does. When I played on JV I had a blast! It was very fun. I will try to keep everyone updated on the JV teams this year. For starters I'll recap last years District 6-5A JV season(I used this report for my journalism class):
1st: SGP :: 10-0 :: 7-0
2nd: MacArthur :: 7-3 :: 5-2
3rd: Coppell :: 7-3 :: 5-2
4th: LD Bell :: 4-5-1 :: 4-2-1
5th: Trinty :: 5-4-1 :: 3-3-1
6th: Grand Prairie :: 2-8 :: 2-5
7th: Nimitz :: 2-8 :: 1-6
8th: Irving :: 0-10 :: 0-7
Season in review:
1. Coppell beat Carroll's JV. I don't know how impressive it is, but Coppell's JV was solid. An upset loss to MacArthur however doomed them to a 3rd place finish.
2. South Grand Prairie dominated every game they played. Their closest? A 11 point win over us. Their QB carried the team and as far as I know ran for over 300 yards against us, and probably more against other teams. They beat Irving 59-0.
3. Irving was really bad. They scored one touchdown all year and lost every game.
4. MacArthur looked bad after a district opening 32-8 loss to Bell, but came back to upset Coppell 12-7 the next week. They went on to finish 5-2 and take 2nd place.
5. Bell's district season was defined by a 3 game stretch. They started 0-3, losing all of their non-district games. After coasting through MacArthur 32-8 and Irving 42-0, they allowed over 750 rush yards in the next three games and lost to SGP 26-15, tied Trinity 27-27, and lost to Coppell 28-15.
6. The best game of the district by far was a 27-27 tie between rivals Bell and Trinity. Bell controlled the ball in the first half and built a 13-0 lead at halftime. But Trinity came storming back and scored on their first possesion of the 2nd half and then recovered 3 straight kickoffs, one on an onside kick and two Bell fumbles to score 27 points in the 3rd quarter and take a 27-13 lead. The game stayed that way and it looked like Trinity had the game safe with 1:58 left and the ball, 1st and 10 in the 4th quarter. But a botched snap led to a fumble and Bell recovered at the Trinity 32. A 4th and long desperation pass was caught by Bell in the end zone for a touchdown. A holding call ruined the extra point and the game was now 27-19 with 1:16 left. The onside kick seemed to be safely in the Trinity #13's hands, but a solid blow by a pair of Bell players knocked the ball lose and Bell recovered. Bell marched downfield and scored on a drawn out reverse-pass with 21 seconds left. Then the 2 point conversion was converted on what else, a reverse. The game ended in a 27-27 tie, but by the way Bell was celebrating and Trinity was lifeless at the end of the game, you could tell who won. It was the first team, Sophomore, JV, or Varsity, at Bell to not lose to Trinity in 7 years. What a game!
