SV beats Katy by 7 in the semis then takes home the trophy vs. Cedar Hill in the finals.

Longview has the possibility of playing Katy in the State Chamionship again since 1997 (I think) but lost 24-3.

I guess that teams west of I-35 are automatically defeated before the playoffs begin, huh? Abilene High might have something to say in Region 1, and anyone can look at the scores of the games from pre-district and say "AHS is weak and will go out with a whimper." Read the stats, watch the games and you'll see that AHS was in all of those games and since then has begun to improve on a weekly basis. Believe it or not, there is football to the West. Stephenville (4a), Brownwood(4a), Midland Lee (5a) and Odessa Permian (5a) have all had dynasties that were feared in the past 15-20 years. Regardless of whether or not you write off teams from the West year after year, they dont go away and will be a force this year as well. AHS is just now hitting their prime and this season continued their district winning streak in the Little SWC, extending it to 17 games. Look out Cedar Hill and whoever else has been given the reigns to Region 1 by this message board, because West Texas Football is alive and well.

I know it was the first game of the season but Abilene was spanked by Austin Westlake... Seguin took down Westlake... and Seguin lost to the 6th place team in 26-5a... I know that isnt an accurate way to really say how good someone is but yall havent beaten anyone to really prove that yall can beat the top teams... just letting you know why yall arent getting that much respect... dont worry though we know West Texas has plenty of tradtion that can spark a great playoff run...

Gotta go with Cedar Hill...Katy and SV both have the edge on play-off runs but hey, this is a new year and the Horn's seem to have something special. Should be fun.

Well, there it is. SLC fans say Cedar Hill, so be it. After all, they always pick themselves, and they haven't lost in three years. Thank you for the prophecy. I want Cedar Hill to win. It would be nice for both state champions to come from this area again.

AWW come on, spread the wealth. How does anyone think Katy and ET of 05 would stack up to each other? I just want to see the SLC Lufkin game, now thats the real D1 championship. Katy has to be the D2 favorite for the 3 reasons that follow.
1- Katy surprised alot of people this yr and are really rollin with what could be the best run D in school history.
2- HISTORY, Katy already has the advantage over most teams in the bracket. SV has been more recent and a few used to be powerhouses but the K-train is still goin.
3- Not much into voodoo or superstition but the first thing I realized when I looked at the side of KHS and saw our history was 97..00..03 and not to mention 94, the first yr we went to state for 5a.
06 it's gonna happen

In regards to that...if we were to go by similar opponents...Grapevine was dismantled by Coppell, Coppell lost to Lewisville Flower Mound, and LFM lost to Grapevine. Now i would not by any means say that these teams are equal, but that's what looking at who played who and how they did means. Match ups are what is important honestly, and if anyone really watched the abilene/westlake game, theyd know that Abilene outgained Westlake by a 2-1 margin and dominated time of possession. Special teams are what was the difference in that game, so a spanking is not at all what i would call it. Either way, when people dont watch a game and just look at the score, they can't really tell what happened in a game. Respect should be given to any team that makes the playoffs because when the playoffs start...everyone is 0-0. It's all even when the second season starts.

Im really not trying to make Abilene look bad its just 35-9 yall only scored one touchdown or 3 fg's to Westlake...42-16 loss to Lubbock Monterey...? Abilene went 0-4 in non-district to some pretty good teams but not top tier teams... then yall go undefeated in district... that shows your district isnt really up to par with some of the better ones around the state.... at least yall have some confidence heading into the playoffs which could help out alot.... goodluck to Abilene in the playoffs...

I think Cy-Falls might surprise some people. They would have beat Katy last year if it weren't for a last minute collapse/tremendous effort by Katy. They returned a lot of key starters from that team, and playoff runs the last couple of years means good experience. I think their tough schedule has prepared them well, and if they get by Houston Stratford they will be ready for a rematch against Katy.

Don't forget Katy came out flat against them for that game... And they were ready to play... Just like everyone who stands on the other sideline, Katy is their championship game...

Ya you are definitely right about Katy coming out flat. Everyone plays their best game against Katy, which will include Cy-Falls. They may not be better but they have a legitimate shot at winning. And since Katy is the overall favorite, if Cy-Falls were to pull off the upset then they could go all the way. They are balanced on offense and have a solid defense. I still voted for Katy, but everyone seems to overlook Falls.

How about a Garland/Katy rematch of 99' ? :p
Unfortunately, this years Owl's team has nothing on the 99' team, IMO
I pick Katy or Cedar Hill this year, but i'll be rooting for my team, of course.

the thing about the abilene/westlake game is, abilene beat themselves. in the redzone 6 times, turned it over 3 times and came away with a td (2pt conv. failed) and a field goal. twice the punt was snapped over the punters head and both times the ball rolled inside the AHS 10 and a kickoff was returned for a TD. AHS had over 400 yds offense and westlake had under 300. AHS drove down the field time after time, but shot themselves in the foot in the redzone. the eagles have beaten monterey something like 10 out of the past 11 or 12 times, so i think they mightve overlooked monterey, a team with something like 63 seniors and some good running backs. after jumping out ahead early, AHS was shellshocked and didnt know what to do. things have changed now though, and the Eagles have learned their lesson to respect every opponent they face, no matter what their record/past dealings is like
