I am so depressed for my son, it was his senior year and now his football season is over. He came home from the game on Saturday upset, first he thought he would be happy it was over alot of time and commentment was put into these last 4 years of football.
I can only imagine how the seniors feel walking off the field for the last time, for most it would be the last time forever. I just want to say to all the football players out there,"THANK YOU for making our season great job and you are all the best."

Ending the season on a low note is always tough.
I felt like crying after I played my last game my senior year.
Ending a season period, is tough.
Remember the good times, remember the bad times. Remember it all and learn from everything.
Great luck to all the seniors out there.

And these are the reasons we have 4 teams in the playoffs. One more game for the seniors. One more practice, one more time to try for something big.
On a lighter note, I hear RedRage has Ritalin. :D

Well said!! Every year, I watch those boys walk off as Seniors knowing that many may never be in a football uniform again. It is very bittersweet - even when I watch other kids from other teams. I was celebrating the LaPorte win last year and was so excited then I noticed a couple of boys sitting in the endzone, taking it all in and looking quite sad. It made me stop for a minute because they are probably thinking exactly that - it is the last game they may ever play or maybe thinking how far they had come to have it end so quickly.
But then they DO have alumni parties to look forward to some day!!!

I remember when my season ended I didnt cry on the field, like alot of my team mates did.
I remember walking up to my best friend who had worked harder then anyone on that football team to get to a starting spot, as a sophmore he was a back up on the JV "B" team, as a jr he was a starter on the JV 'B" team. He worked his butt off everyday before and after school, and it showed when he started the last 8 games of his senior year.
He was on the field crying his eyes out and i walked up to him and said "look what you accomplished this season and in your four years of playing here"
He now plays for Harding as a Sophmore starter

Yes, it ends. Although it has been many, many years since I played I can still remember the final game. But you know what? Life goes on and there are so many great things in store for all these kids including the senior band members, drill team and cheerleaders. It's just an end of an era. Sad but sweet.......

Yes it's a sad day, but the memories of great games, hits, passes, run and the true friendship and fellowship created by being brothers in one of the best sports at one of the best times in a young man's life will last forever.
Sad, you bet, but only temporary... After the years go by, the sadness will be long forgotten and the great fun memories will remain.
To all you seniors, thanks for a great football year in Texas.
Texas HS football.... nothin else like it.

I do remember how much it hurt when I played my last game and then when we all graduated from High School and than College. There are many times it will hurt.
My son now plays and the freshman season just ended and I can say we had a great year and I will miss it. My youngest just finished his last year of youth football and the kids that have grown to be my own over the past four years will be moving on to the different jr. high schools in the Katy area. That was real hard when you watch them grow up from the 2nd grade to the 6th. They really become great young men.
Well, now you have me feeling all sentimental. :(

I got one in HS, one in MS and one in ELEM (Kindergarten). They will be wheeling me in on my last one... I'll be the guy slouched in the wheelchair with a sippy cup full of prune juice, probably yelling for the wrong team, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. :)

This is sobering...
With ELEM going from K to 5th grade, I will have 17 consecutive years at our local Elementary school. I asked the Principal if I could have either a portable named after me of if I could get an honorary PTA membership. She said the portables didn't last that long (lol)...

Not to be blunt or anything, but your son played in the state championship game last year. He played in more playoff games than 98% of the rest the high school players. He should be very proud of his high school career. Most players never get a chance to experience the playoffs, much less the state title game. Tell him to keep his head up.

I am fortunate enough to have ended my senior year on a winning note, though a lame 25-14 victory over an 0-10 team it was still going out with a win. I completely understand, with all the time and devotion and dedication put into it to not achieve a goal such as making the playoffs is something that will haunt you for the rest of your life. I still haven't gotten over my 3-7 senior season and its been over a year since I last suited up.

He did get to play in the state game but he was there on the sidelines dressed out. He was on JV last year but for his hard work he and a another boy were choosen to dress out and be at all the playoff games and the state game. For that I am very proud. I am proud that he made it as far as he did with only starting to play football in 8th grade. This year he did not play all that much due to only being 2nd string but he was there every practice and practiced harder I think then some of the 1st string. But he never gave up.

Man I will need something next year as my son is a junior and I am not looking forward to that "last game" He is my youngest and as you that may be the last time on the football field.
I feel blessed to have another year to look forward to and can only suggest to those in the same boat love every minute of it, enjoy the time with your son because time goes by so fast it is gone before you know it.
I can empathize with your dpression for sure. :)

Good post. I can relate on a smaller scale. My son played 8th grade football this year. A couple of weeks ago was his last game. I help out with the team, and was putting away some equipment next to the locker room. I was walking out of the locker room with him to my truck. On the way he started crying. I was concerned, and asked him what was wrong. He kept shaking his head. I was looking him over to see if he got hurt in the game. I asked him if he was hurt. He shook his head no. I thought maybe something happened in the locker room. He shook his head, "no." But he was still sobbing. I thought he had some bad news about a grade in school. I asked again what was wrong, did something bad happen? He said while he was crying to me, that he was sad that that was the last game of the season.

Ah, the wonder of athletics. So many great memories for all the kids and parents who are emotionally involved. It's tough on kids when it's over but as time passes they will look back on it with fond memories, good plays or bad, but many will keep teammates for ever. The loses will dim, the big plays will become bigger, the wins become more valuable, just like fishing! In many ways the parents have a more difficult time dealing with it.
But at the end of day, it will provide lasting memories of teammates, fans, parents, the whole experience of athletics and especially football where the concept of team is never more valuable in any sport IMHO.
First string to last, you've got to appreciate their effort and devotion to a great sport, good luck to all the kids and parents who have or will be watching their last game. At least when you make it into the playoffs, you don't know when the last game is and in some ways is easier to deal with. Thank goodness for technology today, you can keep those videos and re-live some of those special plays or games for a lifetime.
Best of luck to all those Seniors who walk off the field for the last time.:) :) :) :)

Wow this thread is great! We were just talking about this last week. My oldest daughter was a Senior in 2003 when we won state. We had also won state her Freshman year. What a wild ride and a great way to end your final season. She was in the band. I remember the win in 2003 with mixed emotion. As we celebrated, I looked down at all the senior football, band, and brigade members and just started crying. That was her last game in the band.
I felt the same way during her final concert (vocal) but that was short lived as I knew there would be many more of those ahead.
Now I have the little one who is one of the most rabid Katy Tigers out there so I think I am in for more of the same. LUCKY ME!!! I am truly blessed.
Good Luck to you Senior Parents. The world will be wishing your kids good luck but sometimes, the parents are overlooked. And it can be a tough adjustment. We are proud and sad all at the same time. Believe me...it gets better.

We went through this Saturday as well. A lot of people wondered why I was teary-eyed when we are blessed to have our son continuing in college...but it was the last time these boys will be together. Many of them have been together since 7th grade, or even earlier. Some are done, some will play basketball, baseball, soccer, or run track. Some will play in college. Such good friends and good times. It's the same for our VB girls. It's a bittersweet end to an era. We say good bye and move on.
Can you tell my senior is my first born? :) Will I be this way in 4 years with my current 8th grader? Bless her heart, these past few months have been all about her big brother. But, her day is coming. She is the real star.;)

Yep, my youngest spent where whole life living in big sisters shadow, although her sister was great at including her in allot of stuff. But now it is her time to shine and she does. You would have thought the world was coming to an end the first time I told my oldest that I could not do something with her because her little sister had something going on. LOL
