I did a very detailed report on this for a website a year ago. I do not have all the info to post, but I can give you an overview. Out of the top 100 recruits the year before last (end of 2003) there were more Texas recruits than anywhere else. LA was second, Florida was 3rd Cali was 4th. Texas had more in the top 5, but La had the top spot. La had more in the top 10 than Tx did. However, Tx had more in the top 100 than anyone. Now when it came to the NFL recruits it was a little different. More FL players end up in the NFL. Based on team power in each state, Texas was number one. This is an overall basis, one team in another state can be argued to be better than the best Tx team, but there is no way to prove it. Overall there is no state that can match Texas teams. By this I mean, take the states top team and play Tx's top team, then the 2nd best vs. the 2nd best, etc. By the time you were at the 3rd vs. 3rd it will become a very big mis-match the farther down you go. If you guys are really interested, I can post the info, but it will take a while to do so.

I agree with you on just about everything except: The NFL reports that,
Cal - 200 players
Tx - 174
Fl - 173
Texas does produce the most D-1A players.
Note: For the past 4 NCAA seasons I've looked at the AP Final #25 College teams rosters to see where most of the players are from on those Final AP #25.
3 years Texas was #1. Two years ago it wasnt even close, Texas has like 90 more players then the second place State.
Last year California edged by Texas with like 10 more players.
So, historically speaking. Texas has been producing more players on Top national college teams then any other State.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:
Its a no brainer. Texas has more quality depth with its teams over other States its not even close. There are a few teams from other States that could come into Texas and compete with top level Texas teams.
But from top to bottom there is no STATE that is even really in the same ballpark with Texas. Texas top #1-#15 are just GREAT.

Interesting stuff. When I think of football powers, I think of Texas, California, and Florida; not LA.

Craig Miller of the Ticket in Dallas went to an Ivy leauge game a few years ago Columbia vs Penn. He said they compared with good 4A teams with the exception being they both had a qb who could throw. Most 4A teams have that now. Think Chase Daniel could have started for an Ivy Leage School last year???

I'll have to agree that Texas has the best football athletes. I'm just going on what I've seen since I've been going to Purdue, but the high school football athletes up here just don't seem to be as good. Just the whole area of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. It's just not the same at all. If you play football in the midwest....its like, who cares. Texas high school football is definetly the premiere high school football state.

Hands down !!! A kid from Austin Westlake, QB-Alvin Cowan went to Yale. I believe he just broke many of the Ive Leauges passing records over the last 4 years.
SLC team last season would of probably been the Ivy League Champs. It would of been a battle but I know they could of given any of the Ivy League teams a tough tough battle.

Too bad he won't win the first game :p
But back to the topic. There's nothing like High School football in Texas...nothing. Well, maybe it's comparable to soccer in Europe.

Like I said, this was a one year deal that I did, and I used the A&P top 100. As for the NFL, I only used the top 100 recruited in the draft. I can see how our #'s are off there. You used 547, I used 100.

I did too, prior to the study, I figured it would go Fl, Tx, Cali, and didnt even consider LA (however they always have good talent) Maybe it was too close to home and I just overlooked them.

yea comparable to soccer and forumla 1 in europe, f1 is HUGE, but i think thats a great comparison, in texas football is like the thing, and in europe soccer and f1 are the things, heck you can even compare it to nascar nextel cup, 150k plus per race, the most loyal fans out there are nascar fans, which can be said about texas highschool football, stand for their team, protect them when somebody says something about them, etc

I have my intern, school, and some work (more intern crap at night) It just really got going this week. So it maybe a while, some of the info is at my school, and some is on a buddys computer (he had to take it to his Cali buddy to show him up). But I will get it all together and post it within the month. If I dont have it up by then, remind me.
