Ok, first I'm not making any assumptions about how far SLC will go. Many of the playoff games SLC will have to go on the road and there will be thousand of fans there rooting against them. Just trying to figure out who we might play along the way if we are fortunate enough to continue on....

R1 vs Lewisville
R2 vs Trinity
R3 vs MOJO or Mansfield Summitt
R4 vs Lubbock Monty or Coppell
R5 vs Lufkin or Westfield
R6 vs North Shore or Cy Fair
R7 vs Katy

Does this look right? Did I overlook someone?

Katy's D1?

Well no, but if the UIL would fix things.....

Yeah, there are alot of mixed feelings around here. There are people that want Katy (SV as well) in D1 so we can prove we're still capable of hanging with the likes of Lufkin, SLC, and Trinity. But others are glad we're D2 because it's the "easier" division.

I want D1.

See I think the UIL is missing a huge opportunity here. They could have a Dec 31st game, no doubt would be a TV game and have D1 and D2 winners play. Yes there can be enrollment differences but by the time you get it down to those 2 teams, they are both going to be good and the enrollment issue isn't going to be a factor.

The enrollment issue would indeed be no problem--especially in your mythical round 7 matchup, where the larger enrollment school would be representing Division 2. A great example of the ridiculousness of the present setup.

How does a difference in enrollment cause a problem? I've heard people talk about it but I've never understood it.

If our luck holds. It Looks like we will have a new set of payoff opponents. Last year the only new team we played was Plano. This year we could go until the semi's before we play an old favorite.... If we both making make it that far.

Here is list of all playoff opponent the last four years.

Irving MacArthur 3-0
Allen 3-0
Lufkin 3-0
Arlington 2-0
Smithson Valley 2-0
*Irving 2-0 (4-0)
Abilene 2-0
Arl. Sam Houston 1-0
Abilene Cooper 1-0
Lub. Monterey 1-0
*Denton Ryan 1-0 (3-0)
Plano 1-0
Katy 1-1

It’s time that time of year, loser goes home, blond hair, black pants and moving our home field to Texas Stadium. Got to love it!

But did I get the teams right at each round?

You gave Coppell a chance, but not SGP?

The enrollment issue is funny because SV and SLC are almost identical (+10 students). As a whole Division 1 has more students in enrollment but there are Division 2 schools that have more students than some D1 schools.

It's set by districts... just because they are close doesn't mean the rest of the district is identical to SLC's in enrollment terms.

I never said/assumed that. I am simply pointing out that the big-school/small-school playoff system is no longer so. In the past with 1 team going D1 and 2 going D2, it usually played out that the biggest schools were always the D1 teams. With the new playoff system, seperate divisions based on school size is pointless.

Point taken... Misunderstood. We all know about UIL rules and mostly all of us have the same opinion on it.

So outside of SGP did I leave anyone off?

I wouldn't dismiss Bowie. They have really come on strong under Kenny Perry. I'd give them 25-30% chance of beating SGP.

IMO If SLC can get past "R2" I don't think they will make it past "R5".

It will be fun to watch it unfold!! Good Luck!

Here's a practical thought: Get through D2 first then talk about the what ifs of D1... D2 might not be as easy as some of you think... In the meantime, you’re insulting an awful lot of good football teams and programs…
