1988 Carter Cowboys vs 1995 Garland Lakeview Centennial

Lakeview's sorry butt hasn't beaten Garland in 9 years (this year would be a 10th)...but between 92-95 we beat you guys twice.

The special year when you guys had Ken B., Cedric Smith, Mike Gandy, Mike Knepper, J. Phan and Big Trey. We beat you guys darn good!!!! (1995)

But granted...Lakeview is not Garland! The Owls own that city. (But not between 92-95! :D )

Carroll had Stephenville on the ropes in 98, poor coaching cost them that game. I went into that game thinking Stephenville would blow them out, and left saying Carroll should have won the game. However that Stephenville team was amazing.

83 Permian lost twice to Midland Lee, and lost bad, I have a feeling that the 89 Permian team would have dominated the 83 team.

Honestly, I would say 2002 based on the score against SV, but really SV had a better team in 04 than they did in 02, so its really hard to say. I would say they are very close to even, with the 02 team possibly taking the egde because of the slightly better talent at WR's that year, and a little better defense.

Agreed Zip I was at both games. The '02 Carroll team was better. If SV had come in in 04 trying to run it would have been 45-14 all over again. I think Carroll overlooked SV in 04 despite what Dodge said after the game. They had already beaten 3 teams better than SV. Abilene, DRyan and Lufkin.

I dont know if I would say best team. SV, Abilne, DRyan, Lufkin, and SLC were all very even that year. I have a feeling a double elmination tourny might have produced mixed results. Those were all great teams, and every one of those games came down to the wire. As for least talented and young SV would fit that catagorie, but they changed toward the end and was about 50% better team by the end.

It's hard for me to place undersized, somewhat slower teams of the 80's against more dynamic and athletically sound teams of the 90's and 00's. But if I had to there would only be 5 teams I would choose in the 80's to face:

88' Carter
86' La Marque (O-Line averaged 286lbs)
86' Plano (beat that 86' La Marque team, both teams were phenomenal)
89' Permian
85' Yates

(From the 70's I would have to go with 78' Sealy Tigers and 77' Dickinson)
