Just want to let you know to adjust your playoff brackets in D-1. Burleson will not be facing Oddessa Permian in the first round, like evryone predicted. All the so-called experts thought Burleson would lose to Summit. The Elks beat Summit 21-17 by holding John Chiles & company to a seson low 17 points. The Elks drove 98 yards in two minutes to score the winning touchdown with 25 seconds left. Here's a raspberry:p to those same experts who picked Burleson 7th of 8 teams in 4-5A in the preseason guide. The Elks are not without talent, but they play together as a team better than anyone.:D Games are not decided by the number of Division 1 recruits you, but by the score on the field.

Congrats on the district championship. I will ask though, One and done vs Permian or one and done vs Midland. Whats the difference?

Actually, we'll be playing Midland Lee, grasshopper. That is what Summit thought too. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I wouldn't call them "experts" but the consensus of a group of guys that follow HS football, a/k/a as the Star-Telegram sports writers, did have Burleson ranked one slot above Summit.

Not to take anything away from it but 4-5A is traditionally one of the worst districts in region 1.

Yes, but Summit was ranked in the top ten of Region 1 by 5a football. Traditions change- we will have to win a couple of playoff games to gain some respect.

And that'll be a tough assignment for Burleson having to play in Midland and Summit in Odessa.

If you are so into tradition, you will look at the past 5 years now that summit has played and see that summit has never won that last game of the season. And if you want to talk tradition, that is also why the "so-called experts" rated summit ahead of burleson. in my opinion 3 district titles, and 4 consecutive years of making the playoffs will tell you exactly why summit was predicted to win 4-5a. i am not trying to take anything away from burleson at all, because they did play a great game. a much better game than summit chose to play last night. and were able to contain john chiles(who in my own opinion is the most overrated player in the state of texas) but you must also look at some of the disgustingly obvious flaws that summit has carried all year coming into this game. namely the defense. there are many nights when the defense coulde be traded for chimpanzees in shoulder pads. and there are many nights when the summit defense fails to be at the same stadium as the rest of the team. flagrant and unecessary fouls also plauged summit last night. like a delay of game in the last 20 seconds of the ball game where one of the men back to catch the ball catches and runs, while the other(who is nowhere near, and will not be catching the ball) signals for fair catch  ) good luck to burleson next week in their trek west. :)

The Elks are favored against Midland Lee, will face EP Americas- Lubbock Monterey winner in round 2- if they beat Lee. I will enjoy being at the game in Midland's Grande Communications Stadium- it looks beautiful in photographs.:)

It's as nice a stadium for watching high school football as you will find anywhere. Seats with backs on them and cupholders to boot. Good luck. :)

Have a safe trip and I think you will enjoy our stadium. Word to the wise though, eat before you get there because the concessions are ridiculously high. This has been a sore spot for us out here for some time. Lee will be a better team than their record shows, they had a lot of turmoil earlier in the season and some key injuries but they have righted the ship and will be dangerous. Good luck to both teams and I pray the game is injury free.
