Will not playing in zero week effect the outcome of this game or will westfield just dominate? Tell me what you think.

It COULD be a factor but with so many variables affecting the game, I don't see it having an effect on the outcome.

I don't think it will be a factor...Westfield is a machine. I am just hoping that we can be the bigger machine that runs it over but we'll see on Thursday. I think the fact that it is the #1 and #4 teams in the area makes it one of the bigger games this weekend, preseason or not - it will be quite telling. Too bad it's not on Friday though!

Good luck to both teams (just a little more luck to the Eagles).

Let's hope it is a factor! Westfield has alot of athletes and speed. It will take a great effort on Falls' part to overcome that. Falls had a good game last week. Maybe it helped them to work out some of the kinks and Westfield will still have thiers. I agree it is one of the bigger games in the area this week, similar to Katy/Woodlands last week.

The game will be at Pridgeon (Cy Fair ISD stadium). My schedule says Friday @ 7:30. Cyfallsmom says it is Thursday in which case it would start @ 7. Will need to confirm which night.

Chronicle seems to think they are. They ranked Falls #4 in the Houston area. I am still waiting to see about that. I know how much faith we all put in the Chronicle and their high school sports reporting.

They played Bryan last week. Starters had it 21-0 by half time. Final score was 21-13. From everyone I have heard from, Falls looked pretty impressive.

The Eagles looked great the first half, especially for it being the first game. The starters pretty much sat out the second half (saving them for this weeks game I am assuming - smart move) and the second stringers did okay too - they held Bryan and won the game.

I must say, though, unless it was my imagination, that had to be the quietest crowd ever at a high school football game!! Let's bring a little more energy to Pridgeon this week!!!!

The game is definitely this Thursday at 7:00 at Pridgeon - the directions to the stadium can be found at www.cfisd.net under athletics.

yea i agree that cy falls played a preety good game to get past bryan and lets hope that this playing expierence will be able to overcome the extra attention that westifield was porbally able to pay to us due to them not having a week 0 matchup. haha and yea the stands were preety empty last week but i have a feeling that they'll get filled up a bit with this highly regarded oppenent and this week's game being played closer to home for us, but yea lets go ahead and get those stands full and hype up the eagles!

I am sure this is a very exciting season for you. With your team's success last year and the majority of the players coming back for this year it must be a very bright looking season for you at this point.

Last year when Falls/Westfield played in the early part of the season, Falls had several starters sitting out because of mild injuries they were trying to get over before the district games started the next week. I thought we did ok in that game considering. But, Westfield was young and it was early in the season. I do not think that will be the case this year. It should be a good gauge for both sides to see where they are at this point in the season, albeit early.

Go Eagles! :D

In two days we'll see if all the acolades are warranted for the highly ranked Mustangs with a large target on them. What's the best way to Pridegon from downtown @ 5pm?

CyFallsMom
08-30-2005, 09:28 PM
To get to Pridgeon from downtown - take I-10 to 610 north. From 610 North, take 290 West towards Austin. Take off at the Hwy 6/FM 1960 exit (about 9 miles down from 610) and go right on 1960 (there is a Johnny Carino's on that corner). Go about 2 or 3 miles to Bobcat land (just past Jones Road) and take a right. The stadium is right here. The home side is the side nearest to Bobcat.

I'm starting to feel like Mapquest!!

Who WAS that Mack Truck that hit our Eagles tonight!! Gosh, what can I say - Westfield is overwhelming - at times I thought they had 20 guys on the field at one time. Kudos to the Mustangs - just glad it was only a pre-season game and not district. I left in the 4th and it was 40-12...the score doesn't even reflect the true power of this team. I think the Eagles are a pretty darn good team but Westfield is in outer space in my opinion - good luck to all who have to play them - that's all I can say!! Glad we are done with that one.

CyFalls would have had a fighting chance if they played their best QB, #13. I would definitely give the coaching staff an earfull if I were a CyFalls booster. You have to put the best players on the field if you expect to win.

Westfiled needs to work on that Kicking game....all those missed extra points may be the difference in a game this year...but then again...this was there first game.....they seem pretty solid.

I'm not sure...but I think the teams played twice last year...then opened up with each other this year...so they've had plenty of chances to get familiar with each other on the field.

The name sounds familiar but that could be just the fact that it seems we have played Westfield 400 times!! I don't think he played for Cy Falls though. If he played basketball or baseball, some of the guys may have known him from summer leagues or something. My thought is that they were just showing him a little respect for being just that awesome. I was in awe - that was some pretty running! He probably had a good attitude towards them too which you don't always get but the game was pretty much a blow out so what the heck, right. I did stay long enough to see Tillman - I was much more impressed with him this week than I was last. He looks pretty promising. Not to dismiss Brekke - he is very good too - just ran up against some pretty big linemen...Huge is more like it. The stats on the game this morning weren't too bad for Falls - special teams hurt their chances quite a bit. I will say that Westfield does need to work on that kicking game though.

I might be outta my tree but I don't think Westfield's going to a sound kicking game to win a game until mid-late November/December. The issues should be worked out by then.

In 2003, North Shore had a problem with racking up huge amounts of penalty yardage (something like 90 yards a game) but the team was so good it never mattered.

Keenan is a fine senior kicker, he'll adjust long before Nov/Dec IMHO. The interesting part is that Coach Meekins saw the need/opportunity for improvement in several areas but maybe thats just coaching, always streaching them to improve.

I was visiting with some of the dads still in the program last night. They said #5 transferred from falls to westfield over the summer. Family situation I believe they said. They all know each other.

My take on the game.

Falls offense and defense looked pretty solid to me. moved the ball well and held westfield reasonably in check. falls' special teams really needs some work. take away the 21 points scored by westfield's special teams and the score would have been more indicative of what the rest of the game looked like. Opening kick-off they run through an opening which was 10 yards wide and go all the way. Block a punt and take it all the way in. Block an extra point and take it all the way. And I forget what the third score was.

Team speed of westfield was just unbelievable. when you have defensive tackles which can defense the option by themselves by being able to cover the quarterback and force the pitch and then catch the pitchman at the sidelines is just unbelieveable. I think the inside traps gave their defesive front problems and their pass coverage seemed "loose" to me. But team speed and size overcame most of those early season problems.

All shortcomings on both sides are just early season situations which can be worked out over the next few weeks. Both teams are going to be very successful this year barring too many injuries.

Westfield won 40-12. It was 34-6 at the half. Scoring wise, nearly identical to the third round playoff game between the two last year.

Of course us falls fans would not use the word "dominated". Breakdown on a kick-off coverage, slow release of a punt, faliure to account for everyone on a point after attempt and one other play which for the life of me i can not remember. outside of those 4 special teams plays on which westfield scored i thought it was a fairly even game. the difference in team speed and size was very evident, but i think falls' offensive and defensive schemes worked well against westfield.

Beasley is better this year than last year. very composed, good decisions and a strong accurate arm. and of course his speed. with those long legs he does not look to be running very fast, but he is.

Beasley completed a long pass over the middle for a TD that was a beauty.

Booster...don't forget that the Mustang 1st string left the game mid-third quarter. I do agree that Westfield pass coverage needs some tuning.
Cy Falls should have a very good season.

I realize that becasue my nephew came in to play QB for them. Great to see him get some play time. it was neat to see him rip off that 20-25 yard run! If westfield keeps playing like this, he will probably get alot of game time this year. Falls started their wholesale substitutions at about the beginning of the 4th.

I am not disputing how good westfield is. one of the best teams i have seen in several years, and yes that includes last year's playoff teams (all of them). i fully expect them to take the D1 state cahmpionship this year. the only point i was trying to make (but failing) was how encouraged i was by falls' play. take away those 4-5 "bad" plays on falls' part and i think starters on both sides would have been going all game. i was just very impressed with how they looked against westfield. i think falls' has a very good year coming this year as does westfield. if you look at the game stats, you could call them about even (except score of course, the one that really counts). in last year's playoff game between the two, the stats were no where near close, westfield completely dominated every aspect of that game. i think falls has made a quantum leap in their game since last year, a year they went 3 rounds into the playoffs before being knocked out by westfield. good luck to ya'll this year!

I agree completely Booster - you take away the special teams mistakes and it's a much closer game. We had our subs in too at the end of the game. I think Cy Falls has a very promising district run this year...lots of talent out there. I wonder what the Cy-Fair players were thinking up there in the stands (other than they were glad it wasn't THEM who had to play Westfield). I'm just thankful there weren't any injuries to speak of.

now that you mention it, i agree. falls did not seem intimidated. they have some special team work to do, but i was very encouraged by what i saw. it was the first time i have seen them this year due to work. i heard they did well at bryan and then i saw this game. get a few things worked out on special teams i believe they can do very well this year.

of course i am pulling for cy fair to make the playoffs so falls can avoid a 4th game with westfield in the past 2 years! great team westfield! got athletes, attitude and coaching! good luck!
