Watched the game on TV saturday. Hoover is the AL 6A state champion for the last 3 years, and Neese went to the quarterfinals in FL last year in 5A, I think. Bill Bates, old Dallas Cowboy, has two sons playing at Neese.
Both teams were impressive. Big, fast, with big time players on offense and defense that looked like they could easily hang with the elite in Texas prep football. Did anyone else watch the game? Would be interested in your takes.

I watched it ! Both teams would be solid Texas 5A teams. I dont think they would be elite however. I think they would be like (8-2) level 5A teams.
One thing to remember.. In Alabama there is Hoover then almost nothing. Hoover dominates 99% of the teams they face in Alabama every year. I think they have won the Alabama title like 5 out 6 years.
Evangel Christian went to play Hoover two years ago and got beat 21-14. The same Evangel team was beat by Longview, Tx like 45-28.

I think that if Hoover came to Texas they would be a top 20 team. Maybe thats just me, but i think you have to give them a little bit of credit where it is deserved, but not to much.

They would be in the Texas top #20. No doubt about it. I'm just pointing out that in Alabama its Hoover then its nothing. They have almost no competition in the State of Alabama. There is like 3 or 4 teams that can give them anything that looks like a football game. But, the other 99% of Alabama teams would get smoked by them.

Yea, and the one major thing that blew me away was the size of these kids. Did anyone see the D-Line and LB's size's from the Hoover team? They were 6'1"-6'4" and all of them were very big and quick. That is one thing that you dont find on many Texas teams.

in NO WAY, SHAPE or FORM would i consider Hoover Ala. a top 5 team in Texas...what ya'll failed to mention is that Hoover is a 6A team...and Nease is a 4A, IN FACT they only became a 4A this season, Nease was playing with 30 less kids than Hoover was....and lets face it played right there with em' I think Longview, Lufkin, Judson, SmithsonValley, ClearLake, TylerLee, LaMarque, Katy, and so on and so on, could have beaten Hoover....i dont think they deserve to be the #4 team in the Nation, but they are....
by the way, did ya'll see their FACILITIES!?!??!??!?? I could only DREAM of having something like that for my school

I honestly don't think they could hang with Carroll, Longview, Tyler Lee, Lufkin, Smithson Valley and a whole host of other top notch Texas 5A teams. That is just my opinion and that does not mean I am right. Remember the key word in my opinion is think. I will never get on this board and say that I know a certain team will win or lose to another team because I am not a know it all. However I will say what I think, but like I said before, that does not mean I am right. It was a decent game to watch but it can't compare to watching a Lufkin vs Carroll game even if my team did lose both times. I would think that even if I was not a Lufkin fan or a Carroll fan that I would still have the same opinion. Maybe I am just in a Purple Haze and am just being biased.

Not sure where the enrollment numbers fall out in AL, but Hoover's enrollment was shown as only 2600 and they are in 6-A (don't know if that is only 10-12). In Texas that would be a mid-sized 5A team. Not sure how FL does it's allignments but you make a good point. Would be like LaMarque beating many 5A teams...wait a minute they already do that on a regular basis.

Hoover has the largest enrollment in Alabama with around 2,600 students. ALL the other Alabama schools have Texas 4A and 3A enrollment numbers.

Same thing happen in the Hoover vs ECA game in Alabama. There was about 4 serious "HOMER" calls for Hoover. 2 Pass interference calls that were total (deleted) that went against ECA.
Home cooking is alive and well at Hoover. I think that's whey you dont see their coach Propst wanting to play big time games away from Hoover. He likes that "homecooking".
PS. also thought he showed alot of "NO CLASS" when he was running the football with 40 seconds left in the game and the other team hand no timeouts and was totally expecting them to take a knee. That was Classless in my opinion. Even the tv announcers were like "that (deleted)."

National Prep polls are a joke.

The Hoover coach was cocky to the say the least. He said "if we can run the table and Lakeland stumbles, we'll be national champs".
Gimmee a break - what coach says that after one week? I hope Hoover loses and I don't even know 'em.

My best friend is a (OC) at a 5A school in Alabama. He hates Rush Propst. He thinks his the most cocky arrogant guy in Alabama.
PS.. Last year in the Hoover vs Daphne State title game. Propst was yelling at the refs about what he thought was a bad call. The Daphne fans starting yelling "boo" at him.
He in a very classless coaching move "yelled a very obvious obsenity that starts with F " at the Daphne fans in the stands. Its on tape and he got slapped some by the Alabama association for it. His classless and very arrogant !! I dont like him.
