geno is awesome he plays fullback for lake but in college he will probably play running back because he has great speed but also he has good size already 5-10 195 yes he does lead lake in rushing but it has only been one game vs. tomball he busted out a 65 yard touchdown score on the second play of the second half. lake doesnt only have a great fullback but great runningbacks to like ronnie feaster(junior) hes about 5-9 175 not so great speed but he will run over anybody in hes way but the other runningback also a junior joe clark 5-10 185 is one great runningback last year he ran a 4.6 now hes at 4.5 and is the next elrick jones.. next year lake will have 11 returning starters
go lake! :D

I got to see him when you guys played SV last year. He didnt really have that good of a game, and everyone was talking about how good he was before that, so I know he has talent. My question is why dont they move him to TB this year instead of FB? Have they tried that?

Shhhhh Zippy.....don't give their coaching staff any hints.
You are absolutely right though, Geno would increase offensive production a whole lot at Lake and take pressure off Gilmer and the inexperience Clark if moved the HB. He has the speed to get outside for Lake not the other two halfbacks who barely scratch 4.6 in speed. Gino runs a true 4.4 and it showed on the run that he didn't get stuffed on Thursday.
The true test will be this week when Lake plays La Porte. They will have had two weeks to prepare for Lake and now know they have the triple option since they played them last year. Lake surprised the whole district last year with new attack. La Porte had one of the highest ranked defenses last year and with Boogie Aganostou more mature at QB, he will test Lakes defense.
Not sure why there is so much bragging by Lake after what I consider an extremely sub par performance compared to last year. Whitaker from Pearland rushed for 263 yards, what did Gino get? Teams just need to watch Alvin's game with Lake last year to figure out how to stop the option.
Next 3 games will tell us more about Lake. La Porte, Baytown Lee (away) and Katy Taylor (away), then open district play at the "Rig" (Pearland).

Whoops sorry, there must be some reason they are not doing it. If they have not even tried it, they might need to coach another sport. Who knows, maybe they feel that the TB is good enough. I do know the only time I did get to see Blow, he didnt par too well, however that was against a real good SV defense late in the playoffs.

How many true wishbone teams are there any more?? Richardson Lake Highlands I think still runs it. Mesquite went to a spread. Maybe more teams will bring it back since no one has seen it for while. It certainly worked for Clear Lake.

I dont know if it was the wishbone, as much as it was Elrick Jones.

There are too many old time coaches that you can talk to to find ways to stop it. If you have a team playing them that have coaches that will work at it, your right, it is easy to stop

Zippy....you are correct that it should be easy to stop and many many old school coaches know how since its not a new offense. However, all the teams last year were caught off guard and looked confused about stopping Lake last year with exception of Alvin (Bass...old school coach) and Katy did well but left just enough cracks for Jones, Blow and Oswald. Even the Lake defensive coordinator admitted that Katy should have won. Lake switched spring of 2004 to the option (former head coach from Ball High brought it with him as offensive coordinator) and thats why Jordan a pocket passing left Lake for Friendswood (passing team). Jordan is now at Fordham playing college ball. Gilmer the current QB was originally a pocket passer at 6'3" and is having trouble disguising the ball in fakes and pitches. Gilmer is not built to be a option QB, just like Geno Blow is built more like a halfback not a fullback

I think it's just the opposite...if you dont see it...it's hard to stop. Sure it's an old offense...but you dont see it often. When the Run-N-Shoot and spread first came out it was hard to stop..because you never saw it before...now you see it all the time and it's easier to deal with...throw in the old wing-t, or wishbone and even though it's old...you would have week to prepare for it.

I would have sworn that Lake used the option offense to go undefeated in district the year before last when they lost to North Shore in the first round, which was Oswald's first year at QB. So eveyone had already seen Lake's offense for a full year and it was by no means a surprise to anyone who knew how to run a film projector. It was all about execution last year and there is no way to compare last year's team to this year; we lost 9 starters on defense and 9 on offense. By making it to the state 5-A semis, they did what no other school in the district has ever done, including your beloved Pearland...who by the way didn't exactly set the world on fire in their game last week.
It's early, let 'em play a few weeks and we'll see where the dust settles. but if you're expecting to see the Lake team from last year on the field again...maybe your grandchildren might get to experience it...maybe.

One reason Lake did go as far as they did was still due to the wishbone in some parts. Yea they had some really good backs and a real good QB. Not to mention they had a great defense. If you remember they came very close to winning the game against SV. If it were not for the coaches at SV, they would have won that game. SV worked the entire two weeks before they played Lake just on what to do if they did meet up with Lake. One thing that we cant forget is even if you have an old school coach that is a MASTER of the wishbone, the kids still dont know what it is. Last year not one single kid on SV's team had faced the wishbone. They were too new, and the formation was too old. All I can say about it is that if you can execute it in todays game, it might work wonders. You just have to have the right QB, WB, TB, and FB to do the job right, and thats hard to find sometimes. WB is wingback for all you youngsters out there.

I'm sorry. I can't read this conversation anymore and not say anything. In the option offense you must have your best hard runner at FB. That for Lake must be Geno. Plenty of people in Texas have HB, so that should not be too hard to find at a school the size of Lake. The FB is the man in the wishbone. You have to stop him first or you are in for a long night.
And I believe I remember hearing Coach Heath from Pearland rave about Lake's O-Line. Let's not forget that football games are won in the trenches.
That might be Lake's biggest lost.
As for the comment about Lake should have lost to Katy, how many times are you supposed to lose when you score 35 points? Sorry, but that is a stupid comment.

You couldn't be more wrong Lakelover when it comes to your quote about Lake being the first to get so far in the playoffs from district 24-5A. For one you definately don't know your history of the district very well.
Pearland made it to the semis in 2001 (5A - State Semifinalists), with Noah Allen at QB and Brandon Roberson at running back (played in Astrodome). Way before Lake.
You talk way to much smack about shutting down Pearland last year because Lake did no such thing. It was close game all the way to the end being tied 21 - 21 after the 3rd. It was a great game and a shoot out between the top teams in the district. Oswald rushing over 300 yards was the final factor. Do you see Gilmer rushing for over 300 yards in any game this year? Doubt it.
Going back even further puts both Dickinson with Andre Ware and Galveston Ball who has gone to STATE from 24-5A. Don't slight Lamarque who also use to be part of 24-5A and La Porte who made the run from 24-5A as well.
I've been around district 24-5A for way longer than I'd like to admit and several teams that have graced 24-5A have made the run. Just because Lake finally made the run, doesn't mean its a first from district 24-5A.
As far as Bulldogs comment that I'm stupid, about FB and HB, I'm far from it. Lake has several young men that could execute the dive with effectiveness but is extemely deficient at the HB speed and Geno is the fastest back on the team. Neither Feaster or Clark could get the corner against Tomball (no speed). Geno would be well suited at his size and speed for HB at Div. 1 and 100 times more effective for Clear Lakes scheme at that position. Last I checked Geno didn't carry the offense from FB last year. Its easier to stop Geno when he starts 2 yards from behind the line on a staight dive than in the open field. Thats just fact. The move would take pressure off Gilmer and give Geno an easy 1000+ yard season.

QUOTE]
I am new to Texas but all I heard and read from last year was that no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, from 24-5A had ever gone as far as Lake did last year. I was surprised bc as you say there have been some pretty good teams in the area and I thought for sure that Ball had gone as far. Easy enough to check out the archives but either way it's ok with me.
Now for the serious stuff...I'm not sure what you've been smoking, maybe you're just old as you stated, but NO WHERE IN MY POST DID I EVER SAY THAT LAKE SHUT DOWN PEARLAND LAST YEAR. I didn't even mention the Lake vs. Pearland game, so how you determined that I "talk way too much smack about Lake shutting down Pearland" is sort of baffling to me. Must be your alzheimer's flaring up. Do us all a favor and try to read the posts and then respond to what is actually written b4 you have a stroke. We'd really hate to lose you bc you misread a post and got yourself all worked up for nothing.
P.S. I'm looking forward to my first visit to Pearland's stadium this year. Hope it is as good a game as it was last year. And I doubt if Lake has many 300 yard games this year, let alone Gilmer doing it by himself. But I would so love to be wrong.

First, Geno is exactly where he needs to be.
Second, I never said you were stupid, but the comment made by Lake's defensive coach was stupid. Read more closely next time.
