So now that is a game under each team's belt - what are the predictions for this coming week? Does anybody know the status of Desoto's injured QB? Supposedly Garland returns key DE Marquis Frazier, backup OL Jeremy Kennedy, and DB/TB Jacques Caldwell.

As dominating as the defense looked against PESH, now add Frazier to the mix... wow. Having Kennedy available can only help the 2nd O Line, which did not look great on Friday. Not sure about DeSoto's QB.

I would not expect to blow the Eagles out, regardless of their results against Trinity last week. This team always plays Garland tough, and this week should be no different.

I'm looking forward to watching a game inside the newly refurbished DeSoto stadium...

I hope the game is at least a few degrees cooler - but either way I think the heat will benefit Garland as desoto's big men will probably be more affected. Sloan looked impressive - hopefully passing game improves. I think DBs were a little nervous as there could have been two picks.

DeSoto struggled a lot last week so I think it will take a while longer to heat up. Therefore, I think we will win. We looked great last week and they looked terrible, thats all there is to it.

I believe the game will be close but Garland pulls it out on the road in the fourth quarter with more depth and a faster D.

Garland = 27
Desoto = 14

Well, last week I said that I wished Garland would win by 20, but it would be closer to 14. I should have stuck with my gut. I'm gonna say we win this one fairly big because the football team really wants to beat DeSoto...I wish we could have another shutout, but I odn't see it happening.

I cant see Garland winning by a large margin. The DeSoto vs Garland game has always been a close one to watch. These coaches know each other well. I also predict Garland will have 30 yards of passing....

i read a post from someone on the desoto vs. trinity game and it said both teams defense didnt pick up until the 4th quarter if desoto scored only 10 points against trinity then they dont have a chance against Garlands defense especially with frazier coming back.

Trinity's D was great throughout the game... the only smudges were the first series of each half... :)

I don't think Garland will blow out DeSoto. There have been plenty of teams that start slow in their first game, but pick things up in the second and third games. I just hope Garland desn't get overconfident and take the Eagles lightly.

I can't see us going easy on DeSoto, seeing as we've lost to them 3 of the past 4 years and two years straight. Garland was very close to winning last year, and we really want to beat theem bad. Even though DeSoto may not have been thought of as one of our tougher opponents, many people looked at it as a chance for redemption, along with the likely Tyler Lee game.

I think will Garland will beat DeSoto. Garland has already had a solid performance this year and DeSoto has to have 0 confidence after being killed. If DeSoto couldnt score on EU then how could they score on Garland who has argubly the best D in the area. Not to mention that this week Garland is returning OL Jeremy Roan, Jaquez Caldwell AND Marquis Frazier. Marquis will be a one man wrecking crew! The kid is huge!!!

Yea, DeSoto's offense was all or nothing last Friday Night. They would either get a play of 20 or more yards, or get nothing. I don't remember them getting a gain from between 3-9 yards at all.

Lets everyone sit down, take a few deep breathes and relax. Obviously I want the Owls to beat DeSoto. Yes the Owls Defense did play VERY well against PESH last week and yes the Owls should have some confidence going into this weeks game (much more so, that DeSoto should). But if my memory serves me correctly after looking in the newspaper last Saturday morning, didn't DeSoto have more that 300+ yards of offense??? That's not shabby. I just hope that the coaches & players (players especially) understand that DeSoto will be looking to bounce back this week. Work hard during the week and be ready to play come kick off time Friday night.

Funny - I'll bite...

The '99 Owls were the best team out of the city of Garland in the decade of the 90's. LC in '95 was good, but, like many of the Owls teams that lost in the first round, they couldn't get it done when it was on the line (legendary coach Tommy Watkins had some questionable strategy in that one). The '95 Owls caught fire, beat Plano in the playoffs, then Skyline, and should have beaten Klien. Their win over North Mesquite in the final game of the season is one of my all time favorite HS football games. The '96 Owls, in my opinion, were better. They lost to Lake Highlands, 8-0, in the first round.

SG in '97 was mediocre and got blown out by Lake Highlands in the first round. Naaman in '92 stunk (they were still 4A, too). NG in '93 was bad. I don't remember the '89 LC team (the '88 team was the best LC team ever, the "Dream Team" - went three rounds deep before losing to Marshall).

Members from the LC 88' team admitted that the 95' LC team was better athletically. Had that 95' LC team gotten by LH in the opening round of the playoffs (34 to 34, LH advanced on penetrations) it would have been tough to stop them. (Maybe Flower Mound had a chance, but no one else!!)(My senior season was 95' at LC...I won't give out my name, but we only worried about 4 teams in the STATE that year...Flower Mound, Arlington Lamar, Lake Highlands and North Mesquite.)(We absolutely knew we could be EVERYONE else.) Including Garland...which we did!

But the 88' Dream Team was very good. The question will always remain which LC team would have won...

88' LC vs 95' LC

I have to say 95' LC would have beaten the 88' team...28-14! It would have been a little close in the 1st quarter but the athleticism of the 95' squad would have been too much, eventually. Just like that 88' Marshall team that beat that 88' LC team. They were just outmatched, athletically!!

99' Garland was very good. But I believe the overall athleticism of high school football in 1999 was not very good. You notice no one talks about any great teams in 1999. That's because there weren't many!

But they beat Katy's butt...just when Katy thought they'd come in and whoop Garland. That put Garland back on the map!!

And Tommy Waltkins didn't screw up the 95' Lake Highlands game, we did! I was on that team! We gave up an interception for a return td and missed a PAT, all in the fourth quarter to give that game away.

It was funny because when we were freshman at LC our coach told us we were the most athletic team he'd ever seen. But if we didn't shut our mouths, listen and execute, we would lose the important games. The ones we knew could win!

4 years later he was right.

well actually for old folks like me, chuck curtis and the back to back titles pretty well indented my young map. they dismantled a pretty salty houston area team led by one of the all-time great qbs, jerry rhome.

The 63 and 64 Owls were the best ever from Garland, by far. I was not around yet, but have seen some film and read all the accounts. I would love to be able to see the Texarkana game, where they drove 98 yards at the end to win.

The '99 team got better and better - Midland Lee was the powerhouse that year, and I think, had they played, Garland would have given them all they wanted.

I remember you guys beating Garland that year - the Owl's only district loss. I didn't get to go to the LH game (I really wanted to, but I'm a youth pastor and we had a retreat that night). I, too, think you could have advanced deep.

I feel the same about the '96 Owls. GHS played LH in a defensive slugfest. LH got one big play to score, then botched the extra point. The holder threw a blind prayer into the endzone, which was caught. Garland had a lot of chances, but made some crucial mistakes late and lost. LH went all the way to the state semis, losing to Cooper in OT. That was one of the best teams GHS fielded in the '90's, in my opinion.

Lake Highlands ruined a lot of GISD football dreams, didn't they (they beat GHS in the first round in '94, '96 and '98).

No disrespect to coach Watkins. I got to know him while he was in Rowlett. One of the top five people I've ever met.

I think LC is a team on the rise. They just need to lose the stupid gold helmets and go back to the classic look they used to have... ;)

I finished playing football, professionally, in 2002, and live in Houston. (Also, in Los Angeles) I haven't been to an LC football game since 97'. But I've heard and read about how horrible they are. My baby bro lives in Garand at my folks house...his best friend cedric dockery played at LC recently in 2003 and said LC sucks. They're not even a 1/4 of what LC once was.

I plan to make some trips up to see some Dallas area teams, but especially expect to see Garland vs Lakeview at the end of the year. I've heard about some Borrens RB. They don't even come close to our athleticism, but they may make a little noise!!

And hell yes...get rid of those fuc*#%&d up uniforms and helmets. That's horrible!
