As opposed to the mighty 4a Kangaroos of Killeen? Can't really tell how they will fare against Cove as the offensive systems are totally different between Nixon and Cove. I'm still gonna go with Judson though.

Maybe we should have played Killeen and them Nixon. I'm not sure who we played has anything to do with how the game will go. I was impressed with the Rockets on both sides of the ball. So what if they weren't the most worthy opponent. I think it will be a close game and I hope the Rockets get the "W".

I'll say Judson. The Rockets look like a top 5 team after Week Zero and a real good Cove team does not.

I have to agree with Bullrock, Judson looked good. Judsons old defensive scheme is back, and the offense is throwing the ball alot more. Wont be able to key on the running game. Judsons offense will keep opposing defenses honest. I think the game will be close, but Judson wins. Judson always plays well on the road. :D

I say Cove in a close low scoring game....i know Killeen aint no Judson, but our defense looked really good...like everyone is saying, Judson will tell how the season is for Cove....cant wait till Friday....better bring it Judson in the DawgPound....

I look for the game to be somewhere in the 20's for both teams. Judson D is to good to give up more points. I think the performance of Judson's O vs the Cove D that decides this game.

I haven't heard good things about Cove's stadium and was looking forward to seeing how bad it is, but won't get the chance.
On another note, your band on the Judson side is wrong. You should only be able to do that if the other team doesn't bring enough fans. Judson will bring the fans and you need to stay on your own side. That's not good hospitality.

That picture is old, about a year and a half old. Both sides have been extended, and are EQUAL in length. 4 new concession stands have been added. The new visitors side is on the right, home is on the left. New, but not a huge, pressbox has been added on the new home side. Parking was added on the left for home, so the big parking lot on the right is for visitors. Capacity is 10,000 (somewhere around that), and there's a jumbotron. While its not the greatest facility in the state, it is not as bad as some people have stated on here, and the band has about 200 members.
Just wanted to clear that up. :)

The stadium seats about 10,500 people. With the renovations, a two year process, the field was put in, the west side stands were enlarged (left side in the picture) an made the home side. The new press box was built, consession stands, restrooms and field house were all remodeled. The visitor side (right side in the picture) had the old press box remodeled and is for the visiting teams coaching staff. The new scoreboard was added and used for the first time last year.
Yea the Cove Band sets on the visitors side but that is due to the Home side being full for games. The picture in this thread looks to have been taken between the two years and before all of the construction was completed.
I expect the game to be a great one and I don't think too many conclusions can be taken from the first game for both teams. Do you really think that the coaching staffs showed all of their cards in their first game?
The best way for Judson fans to come to Cove is up 281. You miss the mess of traffic in Austin and 183 has construction in the Cedar Park area and traffic is always backed up there.

The most traffic you will hit is trying to get out to the highway after the game. Alot people trying to pull out of a neighborhood. Kinda tough

To get to Mel's you go to the third traffic light (Robertson Ave.), turn left, at the 4 way stop sign turn right(Main St.), follow that through the curve to the first stop sign, turn right(First St???) and Mel's is 1 block on the left. Parking is sometimes a little tough, good food attracts lots of people, but its worth it. And don't be affraid of all the Blue&Gold that you see in there. These directions are from the West end of town 281, 183. If you come up 35, Lord help you, but your first turn off of Hwy 190 will be right at Robertson at the Ford dealership. Have a safe trip and good luck.

Starting QB brused his back/hip in last weeks game. Took a knee. He should play Friday. He punted last week but isn't the only punter. The backup came in and kicked a 50 yard punt. He did the place kicking also but isn't the only one. We have the kicker from last year that was a sophmore. He kicked the field goal in the 4th quarter.
dawgdude86

Kyle Mathews is the starting kicker, Brent was filling in for him. Kyle had been bothered with a brused quad, but your right Kyle did come in for the 4th quarter field goal. Rumor through the staff is that both will play.

A retractable roof at Dragon Stadium, you guys are idiots. The people of SLC may have money, but the school district does not. Well they do, but they give it all to Robinhood. So much so that the teachers go some years without raises. So all the lavish stuff you hear about SLC is likely not to be true, especially a retractable roof on an open field!

What about a big tarp that you can hang from the tops of the stands and then when the weather is good you just unclip one side and roll 'er up! :)
SLC (the district) has the same money as everyone else, I believe, and they are a one school district correct? That would put them in a similar situation as Clemens a couple of years ago. Somewhat new to 5a, slightly smaller enrollment, one high school. You shouldn't expect anything more than the Buffs stadium.

Actually, they are adding a retractable roof. NFL announcer Pat Summerall who lives on Whites Chapel Blvd in Southlake made a sizeable donation. The Dragon athletic booster organization matched it. They are also adding padded seats, air conditioning and about 50 sky boxes. Everyone feels that as long as the Dallas Cowboys are getting a new stadium the Dragons derserve one too. ;)

It was sarcasm to make a point.
SLC has about the same money as everyone else. Dragon Stadium is nice but it's certainly not the best HS stadium around. Have you seen the old Dragon stadium that was used up to 1999? It's a glorified 2A stadium.
As for the winning stopping? I wouldn't bet on it. The Dragons have the 2nd highest all time winning percentage in the history of Texas high school football. I don't see that changing much.

Ask Permian, Lee..John Tyler..Willowridge.......Carter...if the winning stops. Oh yeah....the cowboys too! :D
I guess that's better than asking if the winning ever starts. :D
There are a few schools who could answer that question.

Winning yes. Dominating no.

Come on Dad...we both know SLC will not win it all EVERY YEAR.
Let me rephrase it....I hate to see what happens win the CHAMPIONSHIPS stop....6-4 is still winning....maybe even 5-5 ;)

Yes, it's probably safe to say that the 98% 5A winning percentage won't last forever. Has never happened before and may not ever happen again.

slcdad, enjoyed the sarcasm. People have no clue at times. Schools with traditional winning programs supposedly have Beverly Hills facilities. Despite a winning program for over 25 years, some feel that Judson's facilities must be outstanding. No AC in the locker rooms or gyms, cramped locker rooms, 12 shower heads for over 130 players after practice, coaches offices are tiny, very small visitors dressing area, small press boxes, etc.
I've always beeen amused at the answer I get to the following question: "What percentage of Judson ISD budget goes to football?" I hear 50%, 40%,etc. Then, they don't believe what the answer is. Never ceases to amaze me.

as has been said many times, hs football is the middle aged man of the sports world. it makes all the money, but gets what someone else(school board/ad) deems they need after everyone else gets taken care of.

Garner will not play.....
Fact is that Garner will not be starting this Friday. He will be suited up and ready to play if needed. He is still having back spasms. He won't be kicking either. Griffith will get the nod and according to the coaching staff is looking sharp and ready to do the job. He is a very good athlete. I agree if Garner is'nt 100% save him till he is. It's district play that gets you into the playoffs. Even though I'd like to see the Dawgs beat Judson I think this is the right and smart decision. And hey! who knows? This kid Griffith has all the tools to do the job. Coach's say he has been able to take a lot from the play he got Friday and has settled down quite a bit. Should be interesting. As far as the other player out, I haven't heard anything. Go Dawgs

Thanks for the knowledge man. I agree that if a player is not 100%, they shouldn't play during non district games. I hope he has a speedy recovery, and I hope Cove does well this year(regardless who wins friday).

I would not count on Brent not playing. From what I hear it will be a game day decision. District game or not Cove wants to win this game.

Ya I agree with you. Cove sees this as a BIG BIG game almost playoff type. They want to win this game and prove that they are a team to reckon with.

You have to admit, 60-0 in the 3rd against any team is tell tell signs that your team is going to have a good year. At that rate if the starter were left in it would have been 80-0. A good 5A team against a ranked 1A team probably would not get that out of hand. I dont think Nixon was that bad of a team were they? When will acually be Judson first test anyway? Aside from the Cove game
Didnt think you were dissing Judson. I just wanted to temper the enthusiasm generated by pummeling Nixon. When(if) we pummel Cove then there will be more cause to get excited about the Rockets.
Go Cowboys.
My two favorite teams. The Dallas Cowboys and whoever is playing The Redskins.
Thats for you 88. :D

There is a problem with that thinking. Going out to "prove" you are a team to be reckoned with in the second game of the season will get you a nice seat on the couch in the playoffs. Ask Waco...

It would be a huge confidence booster for cove if they did find a way to win. They dont need to prove anything to anyone but to themselves. Going out to "prove" is a good thing if it is within the system and not for others. If they stay within 14 of Judson it will be a very good confidence booster for them.

Just saying Cove might be placing a little too much emphasis on a game that doesn't matter. Sure they will feel great if they beat Judson, but what about the flip side? Lose again to Judson with what some see as a better team than last year and that might send them into a season long slump.

Sure they want to win because they are playing a very good team with a history of winning but if you ask the players I'm sure they would rather win district and be in the playoffs again. As far as going into a season long slump...don't think that will happen they are too well coached for that.

Youre making it sound like were the worst football team in the state playing SLC. If we lose this game by 14 it will not be a confidence booster. It will tell if we are able to compete with the best in the state.

No, im just saying staying within 14 of Judson will do a team good (any team). If you beat them it will be real good, but if Cove goes down 50 - 14 it can be real bad, even if the game does not matter. I dont have a clue as to what will happen, I am using what I have seen Cove people say about this years team. And the worse team in the state playing SLC would not be a 14 point game. Would a sign of being able to compete with the best in the state not be a confidence booster? It would be for me.

Acually now that I have seen cove ranked so high, I do to. When I said (any team), than meant a team that was not suppose to beat Judson. However Cove is ranked in the top 10, my bad. I dont keep up with every team. This is a game they need to win, or get really close to winning. From what I was reading, cove seemed to be re-building this year.

Rockets jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead in the 1st quarter. CC settled down & kept chipping away at the Rockets and finally prevailed with 4 seconds left as a receiver got behind Judson's DB by about 5 yards to haul in the TD pass, then the PAT was good to give the dawgs a 20-19 victory. Judson made too many mental errors on offense (penalties, missed blocks, missed tackles,
two missed PATs & poor passing game. Rockets took themselves out of this one by shooting themselves in the foot too many times, although they did score two TD's on 4th down plays) and CC capitalized on good field position, Rockets mistakes as stated above, good kicking game (returns for good field position & good punts), and good old perseverance. Good luck to CC the rest of the season. Both teams should improve and have a great chance to advance far into the playoffs.

I dont know what to think about these Rockets. Up 13-0 in the first quarter and then the all the errors started. Kicking game ( read deep snapper ) killed the 2 pat's and one field goal. Penalties and turnovers at the most inopportune time.
Great clutch play on the last drive by Cove's QB. Good luck in district
I hope CC is as good as everyone predicted, then the Rockets have the makings of a very good team. But, during tonights game I kept wondering if I was just watching two very avg. teams?
Any thoughts?

Your post sums it up except to say passing game was off because someone was in the QB's face all the time. After Defense settled in there was not much movement either way. Gooooo Dawgs!!
