Sam McGuffie had an unbelievable performance tonight. 375 yds rushing, 8 td's, and he breaks 2000 yds rushing for the season.

He had 100+ yds and 3 touchdowns in the first four minutes of the game. The radio announcers have been gushing over this performance as they should be.

Congratulations to the Bobcats and Sam McGuffie.

The post game didn't say, but from the notes I did take he had 100+ yds and 3 td's in the first four minutes of the game. 1st carry of the game is a 68yd td run. He also had td runs of 13, 32, 37, 20 yds. The radio announcer said on the 20 yd one that he hurdled a defender that was standing straight up. I don't know if I quite believe that one, but I wasn't there.

OMG - Definition of Sam McGuffie - AMAZING, STUPENDOUS, Able to leap large linemen in a single bound!! Yes, another hurdle play for the great one! I am so impressed by this kid - I was trying to get pictures of him tonight but he moves so fast I couldn't keep up with him!! I had to take them when he was standing still:rolleyes:

Thank you Thank you Thank you Pit Crew for the sideline passes and the great t-shirt - my husband had so much fun hanging out with Doc and the team and he met Sam so his night was complete thanks to your generosity. I totally enjoyed meeting you and Mrs. Pit Crew and hanging with all of the rest of your crew - you are all good people! Watching Sam was just an amazing thing - I really hope Cy Fair goes far into the playoffs - not only for the team but for the very nice fans over there.

I'm not a traitor at all - still love those Eagles more than any other team anywhere - but I did buy a Maroon hoodie so I wouldn't be so conspicuous:p

Yes, he did - he had 246 at the half and had just enough to go over 2,000 - his grandfather was sitting in front of us - he was pretty excited. He had over 300 yards - I think he finally came out near the end...amazing feat

Did they anounce it on the PA at the stadium? I never heard it announce during the game or during post game. The radio announcers kept on mentioning that there had been no announcement of Sam surpassing 2000yds.

no they never did - but my husband was on the sidelines and they said he had passed it - they really should have announced it - he deserved to get a standing ovation for that. Imagine what his stats will be after next season - he could break all sorts of records.

270 yrd 5 TDs on 12 carries all in the 1st quarter?!?! .... Ahhh I've seen better. :D just kidding!Man that's amazing!

CyFallsMom
11-03-2006, 11:31 PM
I believe he ended up with 376 yards and he only needed something like 365 - he is so amazing...he can stop on a dime and redirect his run and those defenses just can't get a hold of him. I guess his 220 against us was just a bad evening for him:p Actually, we had a hard time getting him too. Our game with Cy Fair was so evenly matched and I think both teams were winners that night...there really wasn't a loser. The only thing that may hurt Cy Fair in the P.O's is lack of passing game but with a night like tonight, who needs that:eek:

I did feel sorry for the Cy Creek boys - they were trying so hard to the bitter end and their fans didn't pack it up and leave them out to dry - most of them stayed until the end of the game. Kudos to them for supporting their team through thick and thin.

First play of the game - a 70 yard TD run by Sam...then he just kept going like the Energizer bunny. I am a BIG fan of this kid now....now that we are done playing them:rolleyes: Thank goodness for small favors.

Well according to the Chronicle article on Wednesday Sam had 1,644 yds to date which meant he needed 356 yds to surpass 2000 yds. So Sam ot an extra 20 yds to be safe.

I also heard that DJ Harper had over 200 yds. How often can you rush for 200+ yds and be completely overshadowed by the oppossing team's RB?

I don't know his yardage for sure - he had a few longer runs and, in a normal game, would have been pretty impressive. Any 200 yard game is impressive. He was a just a little overshadowed this evening. Not taking anything away from him though - he is a very talented running back.

The only thing that would hold him back would be his size but, if I were a coach, I'd have him at the top of my list anyway. Cy Fair has a great O-Line and they must be given some of the credit but he manufactures a lot of yardage on his own too. It was interesting watching from the perspective I was tonight...I was sitting right there with all the Cy Fair fans and taking it in from their perspective - two weeks ago I was yelling "GET HIM, GRAB HIM - DO SOMETHING!!!":) . Makes you have a whole different opinion of someone when you are hanging out in their neighborhood.

Yes I think I'll be going to next fridays game. No darn cookie baking for me next week.

Heck I'm getting so excited about Cy Fair and Sam I'll be willing to travel for the playoff games. It'll be like my senior year twenty years ago. I know we played Odessa Permian in Dallas in the state semi finals in 85, and I think we also played in Waco. Way to far back for me to remember where all playoff games were played that post season.

Yep, but as long as he continues this way I think he'll get some looks from the big boys. He may be small but he runs hard, and I've never seen him go down on the first hit. He bounces off defenders very well, and has great balance. I was at the Cy Falls game, and I thought Cy Falls did a relatively good job on containing Sam in the first half, but in the second half he and the fullback were routinely getting ten yds a pop. He just keeps getting stronger in the later parts of a game.

With his skill set, his size should be of zero concern. Fozzy Whitaker from Pearland is roughly the same size and has already committed to Texas. Sam should, and likely will, get serious looks from all of the top schools.

CyFallsMom

They just announced on FSN that Sam is 33 yards shy of 2000. Guess the info being given out at the game was incorrect (or my husband heard it wrong!!). I would go with that second choice - there was a lot of excitement down there. I guess that's why it wasn't announced. I hope they announce it next week when he does do it on the first or second run;)

And, yes, they had a piece on him - most of the highlights were of Cy Creek which was odd but they did show the hurdle play - TWICE

CyFair'86

Someone needs to be at the games with a high quality video camera. then they need to post on outube for beginners. That way everyone could see what a special kid he is.

I found an Aggie message board that claims Sam wants to be an Aggie bad. I also saw in that same board that all the big 12 schools have made offers. I doubt it. Heck I know they can'tmake offers at this point in time.

i'll try to get that hurdle play on youtube and post it BECAUSE IT WAS ABSOLUTELY SICK. he literally jumped over a 6 foot tall defender that was standing almost upright and waltz into the TD zone. wow....

on the other hand, cy-fair defense was a little shaky tonight... to be a top contender in the playoffs we need to do a hella lot better

has 8 rushing TD's been done before or wuts the record

You know, every year there's a story about some kid from Pigsknuckle, West Virginia who runs for ridiculous yardage and scores a bunch of touchdowns in their 2A showdown against South Pigsknuckle. It makes national headlines because of the raw power of the statistics.

Here we have a game on that level in statistical terms, and was accomplished against a pretty solid 5A Texas football team. Truly amazing.

Gotta be the performance of the year. Sam had to have locked up first team all-state with that performance. I don't think there is any doubt that he is the player of the year in the Greater Houston area.

I'd like to see Cy Fair make its run through the playoffs and see what he can do against the North Shore defense. If that game materializes, all of us are going to want to be there.

I noted that in a previous post - they did an update at the end of the show and said he had, in fact, passed the 2,000 milestone which is very cool.

As for the size comment and saying anyone who says that is ignorant...many schools won't look at smaller guys and that's a given in many minds but it would be a mistake not to in his case...he is only a junior and will get bigger and, dare I say it, better! IMO - he is a future Heisman candidate. I know that he is only in high school and people say "oh he's only going against high school defenses" - he makes some of these good defenses look anemic and I know he has a good O-line but so do a lot of colleges (UT UT UT UT!!). Falls was able to keep him under 250 and that was a bit of an accomplishment:rolleyes: I think any school - big or small - that passes on him or doesn't at least give him a glance is making a huge mistake. I have seen him 3 times this season and each time he has looked better.

I remember a smallish, extraordinarily fast, hard-running tailback at LSU in the mid '80s named Sammy Martin, he shared time with Harvey Williams from Hempstead.

McGuffie reminds me of that kid. The more I see of him, I am tending to agree that his talent level will allow him to compete as the next level, probably as a tailback. I am sure that the world is taking note of this junior and that more than just A&M will come a-callin'.

let me start off by sayin that kid is amazing. but im not so sure hes the first to ever reach 2000 during regualr season from the houston area. If any of you all remember Anthony Evans the pearland running back form the late ninety, also known as the runner up to Cedric Benson on the quest of 5a career rushing yards. as i beleive he did it his junior yr when we didnt make the playoffs.

My husband said he was just impressed with Sam and the whole Cy Fair team when he was on the sidelines with them Friday night - he said the discipline and coaching reminded him of the old Oscar Cripps teams so much. Cy-Fair did not make the playoffs in 2004 when Conteh ran for 2,000 yards. He not only led the city in rushing but he also led Houston in scoring with 30 touchdowns (or 33, I can't remember). So, he ran for 2,000 in ten games. Omar is now at Northwestern University.

WOW.....I remember that now. Any one have a link to Texas high school single season rushing leaders? I know there has been more 2000 yd rushers.

If I hadn't seen Sam leap Josh Smith (#15 Cy-Creek) with my own eyes, I would never believe it! Josh is 6' tall...I double checked our roster to be sure. I just feel bad for Josh to be on all these highlight reels for this reason. LOL! Well, if Sam makes if to the NFL, Josh can claim his "brush with greatness" on that play, right? Sam is so exciting to watch. An unusually talented young man.

Since my son plays for Creek, I generally don't post on any boards. However, I have to say that the only time they ran Sam against my son, Sam was tackled for a 3 yard loss...Sam's only loss of yardage for the night. (Pardon me for braggin' just a little.;) )

Our season hasn't turned out like we had hoped. As one poster said, the Creek defense has struggled. However, DJ Harper has had a very good year in spite of it all and should still be a D1 player next year. My son committed to Baylor preseason.

Since we have played with and against so many of the Fair and Falls kids for many, many years, we will be in the stands cheering you all on. We hope you represent 17-5A for SEVERAL rounds. Good luck, guys!!!!

What a great first post! Welcome to the board and I think you most definitely do have bragging rights there. Not many have even been able to get their hands on Sam, much less tackle him for a loss. Congrats on Baylor too! I wish I could say I had a son playing but I am just as proud of my trombone player who has spent many hours on football fields - just in a different uniform:) . And he's still doing it in college!

I'm sure the boys at Fair and Falls will appreciate your kind words. There is nothing like going to a 17-5a playoff game and seeing letter jackets of all of the schools. I even got a Cy Fair shirt last Friday (thanks Pit Crew!) that I will wear to their games...I support them all!! I wish Cy Creek had been able to get in too - they always make for an exciting football game and, even with the loss Friday, they were still playing their hearts out to the end. It's just such a tough district even with 4 teams going. DJ is just amazing and it's a shame his 200+ yards was so overshadowed last week.

Hey FBMom-

I think you and I had our 2 big guys going against each other in that game! Just glad both made it out with no injuries.

We'll see you at playoffs. Wish your guy could have made it as well.

Take care.
